Murder at the Bonfire—
Sandi Scott does it again! I loved this story in her Pet Portrait Series. Twins Georgie and Aleta are offered a stay at a resort in the suburbs as payment for a portrait Georgie finished. This resort is a bit rustic and there is a bonfire each night not far from their cabin in the woods. Things get strange soon after their arrival.
Arguments between staff, people spying on others and bodies turning up. Of course the twins must also investigate!
Even Stan turns up unexpectedly to “help”. There is never a dull moment and there are lots of twists and turns to keep you involved. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
the amazing twins are back in action.
when they went out in the woods, there was no teddy bear picnic.
amazing scenery, good food, good fellowship, maybe even a new romance for a long widowed sister – but of course, a dead body was also to be found.
the crime solving duo will need all their skills, and their affection for each other and their loves, old and new.
if you enjoy smart, sexy seniors using their joint lifetimes of experience, living loving, and laughing as they move through life, this is another great read for you!
Another wonderful visit with Georgie & Aleta. They get to enjoy a free visit to a lodge but shortly after arriving someone is murdered. Naturally, Stan shows up to help the local police to investigate. The mystery is interesting but the romance is great! Stan is really trying to win Georgie back and Aleta is being wooed by a Forest Ranger. And the sisters are always good for some laughs so this book has it all!
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I love the adventures of Aleta and Georgie. They are like friends. This is a very good series and I look forward to the next book by Sandi Scott. Fun!
Twin sisters Aleta and Georgie are a couple of funny and crazy women. They are positive role models showing that life does not stop even as we age. This adventure started out as a quiet weekend retreat. Of course, it did not stay that way. Murder has a way of changing your plans. Each book in this series is a fun and wonderful reading experience. You will enjoy Ms. Scott’s writing style. I will continue to read more books written by Ms. Scott.
As payment for one of her Pet Portraits, Georgie Kaye is given a weekend at the Fallen Oaks Lodge. Naturally, her twin sister, Aleta, joins her for the weekend. The lodge is located in the Brown County Wildlife Preserve. Their cabin is cozy and comfortable, with a small cooking area and a fireplace.
After checking out their cabin, they overhear a loud discussion between two of the staff members in a public area of the main lobby. Trying to ignore the disturbing encounter, Georgie and Aleta grab a quick bite at the restaurant before heading back to their cabin. They want to change into their swim suits and go for a quick dip in the nearby lake.
While enjoying the water, they notice one of the staff members who was engaged in the earlier discussion and he appears to be drunk. As he nears where the sisters are swimming, a park ranger calls his name. The ranger starts talking with the drunk in an effort to help ease the situation. Luke Holt, had been a park ranger for about 20 years and the drunk, Merv, was already here when Luke started. Luke tells the sisters that the tension started with the recent hiring of a new manager, Joyce Reid. For some reason, Joyce seemed to thrive on power and as a result, is not well liked. At the nightly bonfire, Georgie is getting a couple of ciders for Aleta and herself when Joyce interrupts her to chastise the employee who was working the cider stand.
Nobody seems to be terribly upset when Joyce’s body is found floating in the water near the pier.
Was Joyce’s death an accident or murder? If not an accident, who killed her? Could it be one of the current employees who she continually berates or one of the people recently fired? Can Georgie and Aleta get to the bottom of the mystery?
This is Sandi Scott’s latest adventure in the Pet Portraits series and does not disappoint. You learn a little more about the sisters with each book and this one is no exception. As with all of her books, there are plenty of twists and turns, with a surprise ending that is sure to catch many off guard.
Another fun read. I always love seeing how Georgie and Aleta manage to get involved in and out of a murder investigation. I really enjoy their relationship and always get a giggle or 6 from their shenanigans.
I love all the books from the Pet Portraits Cozy Mystery series! Sandi Scott has such a wonderful writing talent and it shows in her delightful stories. I will anxiously await the next one in this series!
I received this copy free in exchange for an honest review.
Georgie and Aleta are staying in a cabin for the weekend at Fallen Oaks Lodge. The body of Joyce Reid, the office manager of the lodge. Apparently none of the lodge employees really liked the woman. She had been rather mean to the employees. Georgie and Aleta decide to stay a little longer to help find the person responsible for Joyce’s death.
This is a great series. It is very easy to read and a very enjoyable novel.
Back to Nature Murder
I just love the girls and their witty repartee. Add in a dose of ex-husband, hunky ranger and a bonfire and you have fireworks! This story is a wonderful addition to the series. It is also in keeping for the Halloween season. I enjoyed the book and can’t wait for the next one! I received this ARC book for free and this is my honest review.
