When tragedy strikes, everything Carly Bishop ever loved about Christmas is destroyed.Distraught and grief-stricken over the deaths of her fiancé and only brother, Carly left Hood Hamlet and her Christmas spirit behind to start over somewhere new. But now, six years later, her pregnant sister-in-law needs help, so Carly comes home to face her past and…the holiday she no longer celebrates. … she no longer celebrates.
Mountain rescuer Jake Porter believes he could have saved his two friends that fateful day and kept the Bishop family from experiencing such a heart-wrenching loss. He hopes helping Carly rediscover the magic of Christmas will help him finally move forward with his life, but he’s not certain anything is a match for the guilt that’s kept him stuck all these years.
As Jake and Carly spend more time together, attraction grows, but toe-curling mistletoe kisses aside, his late best friend would never think Jake was good enough for his little sister. The question is, is that enough reason for him to stay away from her?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading His Christmas Wish. Melissa McClone does an excellent job of developing her characters, Carly and Jake. Jake is so loving and patient helping Carly get over a tragic loss. The setting is in a small town near Mount Hood. The rescues add adventure and suspense to the book. There are snow-melting kisses, cute kids, and a great HEA. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion of this well-written book.
Carly Bishop lost her parents, brother and fiancé.
The death of her brother, Nick and her fiancé
happened in the mountains the day before their
wedding was to take place.
She left Hood Hamlet and the sight of the mountains
for New York City. She has not celebrated Christmas
since that dreadful day.
Now she is returning to Hood Hamlet, Carly will be
caring for her niece and nephew while their mother
who remarried is having a baby with her new husband.
Jake Porter grew up with Carly as he was her brother’s
best friend. He always had a thing for Carly and has
never gotten over her. Jake will help Carly with the kids.
There is definitely chemistry between Carly and Nick
but will Christmas magic be able to overwhelm fear of
the mountains where Nick is a trained rescuer who gets
called out when someone gets lost or stranded on a
climb.
Will the couple be able to come to grips with their past
to move into a future together. Will they be able to find
healing and love? Will they be able to overcome what
they face?
This book has adventure, twists and turns and humor
with romance.
A very heartwarming, well written story with an very
well defined, charismatic cast of characters.
Be sure to read to see the end results.
I volunteered to read His Christmas Wish. Thanks to
the author for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
I totally enjoyed reading His Christmas Wish by Melissa McClone, book one in her Mountain Rescue series. This is a heartwarming, sweet Christmas romance. Carly had always loved Christmas until that one Christmas Eve when her life would change. Carly left Hood Hamlet hoping to start her life over but now, six years later her family needs her to return home. Jake has lived with the guilt of not being able to save his two best friends. He plans to show Carly the magic of Christmas, hoping to make amends and give her the ability to move forward from her grief. Maybe then both of them can finally find the love missing in their lives.
Ms. McClone wrote a wonderfully sweet and moving Christmas story that is not to be missed. This story is filled with fun dialogue, endearing and likeable characters and the magic of love. I highly recommend this book to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
No person knows how strong they really are until tragedy comes knocking at their door. Carly and Jake are about to find out. His Christmas Wish is a tale of heartbreaking loss, courageous love and emotional healing. McClone sets out to remind that beauty can be found in the midst of heartache. For Jake and Carly theirs is a journey of forgiveness and romance at an unexpected time. Grief is a feeling not easily forgotten, but for these two a little bit of hope and a whole lot of love are what hard to move forward without. Unforgettable in every way.
While His Christmas Wish is a beautiful love story, it’s about so much more. It’s about learning to live again, without the guilt of moving on, or even surviving when others didn’t. Carly lost not only her brother and her fiancé, she also lost her home and traditions by moving away in hopes of easing the pain. Jake lost his best friend Nick, but he also lost Carly, who he loved but never shared his feelings. Now that Carly’s back to help her family during the holidays, Jake can’t help but feel hopeful that maybe she’ll stay..and they can be together.
Jake, from the start, put Carly’s feeling above his own. He actually does that with everyone…from Nick’s widow Hannah, to their kids, to his teammates on OMSAR. Carly’s heart is still fragile and frozen, and she’s unsure of how to, or even if can, move one. A little Christmas magic seems to be exactly what they both need.
His Christmas Wish is one of the the best holiday books I’ve read, hands down. With a hero and heroine to root for, 2 adorable kids, the winter wonderland backdrop of small town Hood Hamlet and a heartwarming storyline, this may well be my favorite Melissa McClone romance yet. I can’t wait to continue this series and fall in love with new characters, if they can squeeze themselves past Jake and Carly
A very heart warming sweet Christmas romance. Carly use to love Christmas until one Christmas Eve her life would change. Carly left Hood Hamlet to start her life over but now her family needs her to return home. Jake has lived with the guilt of not being able to save his two best friends, and now wants to make amends to Carly and show her the magic of Christmas.
Loved these characters, very likeable and real. Many Christmas traditions, that will surely get you in the mood for the holidays. This will be the best Christmas ever!!
Carly Bishop lost her brother and her finance six years ago to their love of climbing Mount Hood right before Christmas and her wedding. Christmas hasn’t been the same for her since. But she comes home for the holiday to visit her brother’s family and support her almost due to give birth sister-in-law Hannah. Hannah has managed to move on and find love again, why can’t Carly? Jake Porter has been attracted to Carly for years, but she was his best friend’s sister and then engaged to another man. Will he finally have his chance with her? First Carly has to open her heart to love again and trust that even though Jake works in volunteer search and rescue on the mountain that he would never be too reckless like her finance. Jake has to be willing to open himself up to long term commitment and that he could be a much better father than his ever was. He’s already great with Hannah’s kids. There were plenty of funny, sweet, and suspenseful moments in this romance. I can’t wait to read the next book and find out more about Sean, his dog Denali, and the woman who claims his playboy heart.
A wonderful debut of the Mountain Rescue Romance series with relatable characters with whom I could share emotions as I laughed, cried and loved every minute of this heartwarming and at times heartrending contemporary holiday romance. I really liked Carly Bishop who returns to her hometown of Hood Hamlet, Oregon after living in Philadelphia for six years and her dynamic with the other characters, especially Jake Porter who had been her late brother’s best friend.
This well-crafted story will warm your heart and get you ready for a magical Christmas. I can hardly wait to read book two in this must-read series.
Jake and Carly both suffered a devastating loss years ago. They each handled it in different ways. Now they are thrown together – can they help each other overcome that loss? I like how they both had crushes on each other years ago but didn’t tell the other. A pretty sweet romance with some spice. Loved the ending.
What a wonderful story of a family, hope, and Christmas wishes while overcoming past tragedies. The book will make you think about the dangerous work mountain rescue teams encounter. What brave people they are and their families too.
I could really feel for Carly Bishop trying to accept her past and open her heart to love. The chemistry between her and Jake Porter was so refreshing and sweet. It was also sweet to have the story set at Christmas and the arrival of a new bundle of joy. It reminds you that life does not stop and so you must find the strength with the help of others to take each day one day at a time because it might lead you to new friendships and love. I cannot wait to read all of the other books in this new series! I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
A Great Holiday Story!! This is a really sweet and fun story!! I loved getting to know Jake and Carly!! Jake being a mountain rescuer was very interesting to me. I haven’t read a lot of stories using that angle. I also loved how he was able to help Carly get over her devastating loss and open her eyes to loving Christmas again, it really touched my heart. The kids were a great bonus too! A lot of fun!! Can’t wait to read more of this new series!!
His Christmas Wish was heart warming and heart wrenching. I laughed and I cried. The characters were well developed and I could feel their grief and their determination to move forward. The relationships between the group of friends was very touching. The theme of self forgiveness was woven throughout. A very touching read, and I look forward to the next book.
