Jonah I’m the NHL’s toughest enforcer, the Body Checker, and I earned that title the hard way. I’m all about the game, a no attachment, no strings kind of guy, so when a puck bunny shows up at my door, shoves a pink bundle into my hands and drives off into the sunset, it turns my world upside down. I’m not cut out to be a family man. I know nothing about babies and I’m the last guy who should be … should be taking care of one. But I do know someone who is equipped for the job—Quinn Reed, my best friend’s kid sister. Problem is, she kind of…hates me.
Quinn:
Jonah Long…a father? Move in and help take of his daughter? Crazy as that sounds, I agree to the temporary arrangement, for the child’s sake. Problem is, living with the guy I’ve crushed on since forever, is messing with my body as well as my brain. And now, watching him grow as a man, seeing the bond between father and daughter build, I can’t help but want this family for myself. But we’re just playing house, and Jonah isn’t interested in making this ready-made family the real deal…right?

Once you begin to read Body Checker, you will not be able to put it down. I was fully engaged in the storylines, yes plural, the book is so well written. Quinn has hidden her crush on Jonah for years with her snide comments. But when Jonah has an unexpected package dropped at his door, he turns to his best friend Zander and his younger sister Quinn. As Quinn steps up to help Jonah, she crushes a little harder as Jonah turns into a different type of man, one the can be looked up to and admired. As Quinn tries to hide her admiration, Jonah finally relents into the desire he feels for Quinn, these two turn up the heat & steam. Of course it can’t be that easy as shocking truths are revealed & unfold will Jonah & Quinn find their HEA & how many other lives will be forever changed? This was a first for my by Cathryn Fox but after reading the tremendous, fantastic book, The Body Checker, I purchased and read books 1 & 2 from the Players on Ice Series and can’t wait to see what’s next for these smoking hot bad boys of hockey. The Body Checker is a one-click must read, definitely recommend not missing this series!
While I did receive an advanced copy from the author & publisher via NetGalley, I am voluntarily leaving my voluntary opinion with this review.
4+ “Totally adorable” Stars
Holy puck!!! I know whenever I pick up a story by Ms. Fox I’ll get OTT hotness guaranteed. The Body Checker had hotness to spare, but it was also fun, sweet and incredibly cute!
This story checked a lot of my favorite tropes: surprise baby? Check. Single-dad-who-needs-to-be-saved? Check. Off-limits best friend’s little sister? Check and… well multiple checks *wink*wink*
Jonah finds himself suddenly and completely out of his element. When the puck bunny from hell thrusts a tiny baby wearing pink, he has no choice but to take little Daisy. By the mercy of Heaven, his best friend is there to witness the exchange and gets his sister to help him out asap.
Quinn takes care of little kids for a living and dreams of opening her own daycare one day. Once she meets baby Daisy, she agrees to help Jonah out but only temporarily. She may act like she hates his guts, but she’s crushed on the guy forever, and being constantly in the presence of his shirtless-chest-and-abs is not going to be easy.
Once they start to settle into their make-shift temporary family and they spend more time together, Jonah and Quinn’s chemistry becomes unbearable, and soon they are succumbing to it.
Jonah was the cutest H ever. A giant, sexy mountain of muscles, he is completely ill at ease when it comes to the delicate baby he now finds himself having to take care of. I loved how he stepped up to the situation and went all in to become a real father to Daisy. He was absolutely adorkable in his baby handling, and I was melted into a puddle of goo time and again every time he interacted with the baby. He also had some seriously hot moves turning me into puddles of another variety altogether.
I had a blast with Quinn. She kept Jonah on his toes, went head to head with him when necessary and was the sweetest with the baby.
I loved everything about this story. It had lots of heat and sexnanigans, but also sweet moments and family bonding. I especially loved how much baby Daisy was part of the actual story and wasn’t just a baby prop. That said, the whole situation was a bit OTT and the puck bunny from hell was a real piece of sh-work.
Fun, sexy, sweet and adorable, The Body Checker was an amazingly enjoyable read that had me smiling from start to finish.
Super sexy and super hot read
Great book, i really enjoyed this book
Some plot holes but overall a good beach read
The Body Checker is a good best friend’s little sister hockey romance. This is the first story I have read from this author and I found it quite enjoyable. Jonah is the heavy hitter in hockey, and nothing comes before it. But his world is about to go upside down. Quinn has a love/hate for Jonah, but when her brother calls her to help Jonah, she’s more than willing to help. I found the characters to be likeable, and you could feel their connection. Entertaining story!
I received this book from Netgalley.
4 1/2 STARS!
Steamy, dramatic and downright fun! With book three in the Players On Ice series, Cathryn Fox gives us a confident jock who changes his ways the second a baby is put into his arms. It’s super sweet to watch him grow into a caring father right before our eyes, and the connection he grows to have with Quinn is not only sweet, but super spicy. There’s not much in the way of hockey in this book, but the rest of the story is spot on! Can’t wait for Zander’s story.
Pro hockey player Jonah Long is the ultimate party animal. He enjoys every aspect of his fame and fortune, from parties to the different woman warming his bed every night … but it’s all about to change when one of his puck bunnies shows up at his door and thrusts a baby into his arms!
Quinn Reed’s brother is Jonah’s best friend and teammate. She’s crushed on Jonah for years, and can’t stand to see him carousing around with all of these other women. She can’t believe it when Zander calls to ask her to help him out with the baby, but she loves kids and she’s not going to let this poor baby girl suffer just because her new daddy is ignorant! Being under the same roof with Jonah is going to be a temptation though … quite possibly one she can’t resist!
I thoroughly enjoyed The Body Checker and will definitely be reading the first 2 books in the series, as well as any subsequent books! I’m a huge fan of sports romances (particularly hockey) AND this one also features one of my all time favorite tropes – best friend’s sibling/sibling’s best friend, so while I’ve read and enjoyed Cathryn Fox before, I got way more than what I was expecting in this book. It captured my attention from the very beginning and did not let up – I read The Body Checker in one sitting and my only complaint is that I wanted more! Both Jonah and Quinn are very likable characters, their mutual attraction has been previously established (unbeknownst to them), their chemistry is dynamic (no slow burn here), and their interaction when it comes to Daisy is absolutely adorable. The pacing of the book is perfect and the set up for the next book sets the perfect level of anticipation. I really can’t wait to catch up on the rest of the series and for Zander’s book! 4 out of 5 wine glasses.
First off I need to say why has Cathryn Fox not crossed my radar before now because I loved The Body Checker it was everything I love in a sports romance. This book has all the feels you want from a great read, you will smile, you will cry and you will have some laugh out loud moments as the Body Checker learns how this cope with a small baby….
Jonah is living life to the full, he earns a living playing a game he loves and he has women falling at his feet what he didn’t expect is to be handed a baby!! He needs help and that comes from Quinn his best friend and teammates baby sister who happens to be a daycare teacher. Quinn moves in to teach Jonah how to raise a small baby but living under the same roof brings feelings and emotions they have both been trying to hide to the surface………..
This book with make you smile but it will also tug at your heartstrings, it has characters you will love and a twist you never saw coming. I need to read the rest if this series as soon as time permits.
Oh how I love it when this author writes longer books! I really loved The Body Checker, Quinn and Jonah’s story was filled with hot steamy scenes that melts everything you come into contact with. Loved the storyline, totally worked for me, great writing, and you wanted to wring Shari’s neck with what she did. The time Quinn and Jonah had with Daisy was so heartwarming, you just fell in love with this little “family”, but their insecurities definitely got in the way. Not sure I liked how things turned out in the long run with Zander, but it’s all about the happy endings. Would have loved an Epilogue with how these two handled their destiny. Hoping there will be a follow up with Zander’s story??? Well worth the read.

Jonah Long wakes up to a hangover and pounding on his front door after a celebration party at his home. When he opens his door, a 4-month-old baby is placed in his arms and he is told that he is the father. When the mother disappears, he turns to his friend Zander for help. Zander calls on his sister Quinn to come to Jonah’s aid as she works in a day care center. Quinn is a small dynamo who will teach Jonah everything he needs to know about babies…and maybe a little about herself. Quinn has had a crush on Jonah for years, but knows that his life style playing professional hockey is not conducive to being with just one woman. Could she be the woman to change his mind? What happens if the mother returns for her daughter? It is endearing to watch as Jonah adapts to being a dad and cares for his daughter, Daisy. There is a twist to Ms. Fox’s story that I did not see coming along with “steamy” action between Jonah and Quinn as their relationship develops. A thoroughly enjoyable romance. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
This is my first book to read by Cathryn Fox really enjoyed, A great sports romance that pulled me in and took me on the ride with Jonah and Quinn. A must read, I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy #NetGalley.
Sweet and sexy story. I loved Jonah and how he stepped up with Daisy. He and Quinn fit together so well. Would love to see an epilogue with a glance into their HEA. Can’t wait to read more by author.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
We have a brother’s best friend and the little sister. Jonah had know clue that he was a father until a puck bunny hands him his little girl. Not knowing what to do he is freaking out and his best friend calls his little sister Quinn who works at a daycare center. Quinn knows what it is growing up without a parent since her brother took care of them at such a young age so she refuses to let Jonah’s little girl suffer. When the mother comes back wanting the baby back, Jonah and Quinn have a fake relationship which in turn turns real..

Loved It
This is a sports romance that I couldn’t put down. After a night of hard partying Jonah gets up to answer his door and has a baby thrust at him telling him he’s a daddy and the mother takes off. This hard partying hockey player had no idea what to do with a baby so his best friend Zander calls his sister in to help Jonah out. They have all grown up together and Jonah has always known Quinn as the girl who is off limits since it’s a “bro” code thing.
As they spend time together caring for Daisy there are boundaries that are crossed and neither of them will admit to anything. There is great chemistry between Jonah and Quinn and there are surprises that tug at the heartstrings and have you picking sides. It was quite the page turner for me.
This book was all, ohh, then awww, then ooooh, and then it made me cry, first sad, then mad, then happy tears! I mean, surprise daddy, plus best friends little sister, and he’s a hockey player? Yeah, that is all good, no bad, and this book certainly lived up to that expectation
Jonah is having the time of his life, living his dream, and then he is handed a baby. He has no idea what to do, but Quinn is a daycare teacher, so she helps out. Once they are living together to care for the little one, is doesn’t take anytime for the sexual tension they have to explode. And it does, again, and again, and again, until finally, reality steps in and scares them both
Just a bit of time, until they come back around, and end up together, as they should. Sexy, smart, and tugging at your heart strings, this book had it all!
3.5 stars
Jonah discovers he’s a daddy when a fling shows up on his doorstep and claims he has a daughter named Daisy. And this all happens before he’s had coffee and with his best friend and a houseful of his teammates behind him! Panicking at the thought of a mini human being he doesn’t know how to care for, his best friend Zander calls his little sister Quinn to help out. Quinn, the one woman who Jonah could picture settling down with…but there’s the little issue of the bro code with Zander and Quinn’s seeming dislike for Jonah. What a guy supposed to do?
What a cute and super hot read! The cutes-Daisy was an adorable girl with typical infant behavior to include sleepless nights, dirty diapers, and projectile vomit (bless you Cathryn for not shirking on the reality of four month olds!) now the hot part-Jonah and Quinn had enough chemistry to start a five alarm fire! A bit of bossy in the bedroom gets Quinn’s girly parts revving and Jonah is just the man to deliver. It doesn’t hurt they both have unrequited feelings for each other that everyone in the world is aware of! Except of course the two people it matters most to. No hockey was actually played, but the spicy bits make up for the oversight 🙂

What an emotional book!
Jonah wakes up one morning to a major hangover and finding out he is a dad!! This is a man who didn’t have baby’s on the brain for years to come. He is a major playboy. Now he needs to step up and be a dad. Luckily for him, his best friends sister is amazing with kids. Jonah has secretly loved Quinn for years but the bro code has prevented anything from coming from that.
I really liked Quinn in this book. She has also loved Jonah since she was a girl but kept it secret. In order to hide her attraction, she is always yelling at him. However when he finds out he is a dad, she steps in to show him the ropes and ensure that Daisy is taken care of properly.
The part I loved about this book was you got to watch a boy become a man and do right by his daughter. Even after everything is straightened out, he is a better man for it.
This was just not a story for me. The writing wasn’t bad, it was just okay. Jonah is a NHL star, gets a baby dumped on him by it’s mother, but never thinks “hey, maybe I should get a paternity test?”. Yeah, no. He then starts to play house with Quinn, his best friend’s sister. Their chemistry was good, but they rest of the story I just couldn’t get behind. The ending with Shari was just horrible. That was not a good twist to the story, and it felt like it was just met with “oh well” from the characters. Not a realistic reaction at all. This was a first for me from this author, but I would be willing to read her again.
