Now, without a role to fill, … of the aristocracy. Now, without a role to fill, she is faced with the possibility of having to actually live quietly in her little cottage, for the rest of her life. Suddenly, independence doesn’t taste so sweet, and with Christmas not far away, loneliness looms. But what choice does a spinster of near fifty have?
Mr Nathaniel Godfrey has given his life to the church, and been happy as the vicar of the Dartworth village church. He is obsessed with history, and has allowed that to fill his time, never thinking of marriage – for what woman would want a man who cares more about the contents of tombs than the present day? But when he discovers an equal passion for history in Miss Millpost, he realises how solitary his life has been.
When a mystery draws them together, can they each overcome their uncertainties, and allow love to flourish? Or will life long habits steal their chance for happiness at Christmas?

Courting a Spinster for Christmas by Arietta Richmond:
Such a delight to read a story that acknowledges that mature individuals are just as capable of falling in love as young adults are.
Lydia Millpost has appeared in three other novels in the series His Majesty’s Hounds (books 5, 6 & 9) and, while it helps to know some of her background from the previous books, it’s not necessary to read them to enjoy this romance. She’s been a governess and a lady’s companion and in those roles she’s needed to be stern and starchy. Now she is pursuing her real passion – historical research and organization – and enjoying her life.
Nathaniel Godfrey has been a churchman for his entire adult life, but for reasons he doesn’t even understand, he has never married, never even considered marriage – until now. His passion has always been historical research and organization and he appears to have found someone in his life with the same interests.
The book was a pleasure for me to read, particularly since I also love historical research and puzzles.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
ONE REFRESHING SWEET READ!!!
This is one sweet little jewel that grabs your attention from the start. All the twists and turns, ups and downs, along with a few glitches here and there make for one enjoyable experience. Drama and suspense that play out hand-in-hand as we follow the characters on their journey to knowledge. The characters are well developed and believable. Their personalities are unique with traits that balance out as the story unfolds. The scenes are so vividly graphic and detailed it’s easy to picture each scenario as it plays out before your mind’s eye. Arietta did a fantastic job bringing this read to life. Great job Arietta, thanks for sharing this little guy.
Love can be found at any age, when interests are shared.

Courting a Spinster for Christmas by Arietta Richmond
Miss Lydia Millpost fell into the arms of Mr. Godfrey from a ladder in the library. Thus started a possible romance. Lydia had cataloged 2 libraries and was working on a 3rd one, which she figured she would have it finished brfore Christmas. Mr. Nathaniel Godfrey got her involved in trying the find the family of Edward Cetan de Hirst. So started their search and to find out what they found and whether there was a romance u have to read the book.

This is a romance about an older couple. Two people who have much in common, but never had time for marriage. These two are lonely as they approach fifty. They are spending alot of time together to research the history of the Seddon de Hirst family tree. They find they have more in common than history and room for love. This is well written without the intense passion of a younger couple, but written with thought to the couple’s maturity and their respective careers.
This book was a highly entertaining read. I really enjoyed it. It kept me turning the pages from the beginning. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book in exchange for a free copy.
I found this book to be a very enjoyable and entertaining read from the very first page! The good storyline and characters that were very likable and engaging grabbed my attention from the very first page and wouldn’t let me go until I finished reading the very last page! This book was such a pleasure to read that I ended up reading it in one sitting!
I absolutely adore this book. It reinforces the idea that you’re never to old to fall in love. Even when you’re not sure you want to. They worked together very well and enjoyed each others company. Never quite realizing they were slowly falling in love. He was afraid she would reject him and she was afraid of losing her independence. Can they work it out?

Miss Lydia Millpost is an educated spinster and former governess and companion. She has a small annuity and cottage and her own independence. Mr Nathaniel Godfrey is the local vicar near Darthworth Abbey. Lydia and Nathaniel are both interested in history and in particular the history of the first Marquess of Dartworth and they go on an adventure to trace his lineage. Along the way they discover that you are never too old to fall in love. Lydia was afraid to give up her independence and Nathaniel was worried about losing her friendship. Sweet romantic mystery about two people who thought they would spend the rest of their lives alone but discovered sometimes the best things in life are worth waiting for.
I liked this book alot it was a good book to read i liked the writing.
It was such a phenomenal read and had amazing characters and storyline that had me hooked certainly turning pages
I loved that this story is about two geeky characters neither of whom is in the first blush of youth. Lydia has been a companion and governess while Oliver is a parish rector. They both enjoy history and research which leads them to love. It is a sweet, well written novel. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.

A well written story with drama, secrets, mystery and twists. I would have liked the author to have more research though.
Well described characters that are both older than normally in romance stories.
Enjoyable and easy to read.
