DEEP FLAMING RED is the first book in a heart-breakingly sweet and intensely powerful duology about two people who would love without limits if given the chance.

Okay, where do I start. Definitely not at the beginning but a bit about the couple first. Deep Flaming Red is not your typical romance book. While the underlying love interest is between Ethan and Scarlett, the emotion between these two from start to finish is something of a roller coaster. I love arrogant alpha males and Ethan doesn’t disappoint. He’s strong, foul-mouthed, sexy and oh so arrogant. But don’t let that wrong-side of the track language fool you. The man has heart, pure and simple and while he fights his affection for Scarlett, resistance is futile as he soon learns. Scarlett on the other hand comes across as weak at first glance but, don’t let this Ballerina fool you either. Her inner strength peeks from behind the curtains of her flawless dancing and as the story progresses you’ll see it. With her simple beauty and reserved nature, she has a hold over Ethan but she doesn’t know it.
The plot. Four years ago, Ethan gave his heart and soul to Scarlett but fate intervenes and she’s whipped out of his life never to be seen again. Now, she’s back in town and hopes to garner his affection once more. Only, Ethan isn’t the scraping the bottom of the barrel young man she left behind. He’s successful, rich, still sexily arrogant and dates any woman he wants. Why then would he even give Scarlett a second glance. Because you never forget your first love and in Ethan’s case he intends taking what’s rightfully his come hell or high water. As the story unfolds and truths are revealed and together this couple have to make decisions that would impact both their lives with hate and love.
The story is beautifully written with each character clearly defined in terms of traits, personality and appearance. The secondary characters, are also appealing, intriguing and fit the story well. As the emotion calls for it, you’ll love them and hate them too. Descriptions are vivid, pulls you into the story and keeps you there. Would I recommend it, most definitely. Would I read Book 2, oh, yes. More of Ethan please.
Oh, fricking swoon!!! I have a new imaginary boyfriend and his name is Ethan. A foul-mouthed, sexy millionaire with a dark past–what more could you want?
Ethan wasn’t the type of boy any dad would want to date their daughter. Nor, was he the type to stick to one woman, at least until he met Scarlett, his ballerina. Their love was smoldering. Intense. Consuming. When she disappeared, she not only broke his heart, but left him serving time for a crime he didn’t commit.
Years later, she’s back and she wants to set things straight, but he’s not the boy she left behind. Rich, sexy, POWERFUL. He should just walk away and never look back. Yet, he can’t deny her, can’t deny his attraction to her. As their passion unfolds, they discover the truth behind her disappearance–one which may destroy them both.
Loved Deep Flaming Red! Ethan is smoking hot! The kind of character you can’t get enough of. The plot is amazingly well-written, clever, and engaging. Not only could I not put this book down, but I’m going to read it again. Maybe a few more times–at least until book two comes out and I can get my Ethan fix. Highly recommend.
I normally don’t read romance but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. JD Samson did an excellent job creating characters I fell in love with. It also had an intriguing, unique story line that kept my interest throughout. A wonderful debut novel!
I have been reading all my life and while I thoroughly enjoy probably ALL the books that I read, there are few books that stay with me. Deep Flaming Red is a book that will stay with me for a long time. Deep Flaming Red is a complex story. If you loved Sylvia Day’s Crossfire series, you’ll probably enjoy this one too, although Deep Flaming Red is a bit more “deep” in it’s message.
Ethan Salvatore is gorgeous in every possible way, his looks being the least important part of how gorgeous he is. I absolutely adored him, right till the end. I loved how Scarlett was portrayed with quiet strength that she herself doesn’t yet realize she has. I liked the strong emotional connection between the characters. I’m still swooning over Ethan’s deep love for Scarlett.
I loved the secondary characters too, especially Travis. They all meant something to me in the end. I enjoyed that the themes were relatable and relevant. The backstory involving Ethan’s mother is very complicated and sad and I hope to read more about it in the next book. I found the slightly mocking tone regarding religion very interesting. It seems to address the issue of hypocrisy very well. I hate Ethan’s father, even though there wasn’t a single actual scene with him in it.
I’m impatient for the next book. I can’t wait.
