“This new series has me very excited.” –Brad Thor As the brutal Russian mafia becomes the most powerful and deadly criminal enterprise in the U.S., it’s up to covert operative Rob Tacoma to fight back, in a new series by New York Times bestseller Ben Coes. Ruthless, clever, and unbelievably violent, the Russian mafia has rapidly taken over the criminal underworld in the U.S. and law … underworld in the U.S. and law enforcement has been unable to stem the tide. When a powerful Russian mob family declares war by publicly executing two high-profile American politicians, the message is unmistakable – opposition will be met with overwhelming deadly force. With no other viable options, the President creates a clandestine assassinations team to find and eliminate the unreachable men running this deadly criminal operation.
The CIA recruits two Tier 1 operators – former Navy SEALs Billy Cosgrove and Rob Tacoma. But before they can even get started, the Russians act – murdering Cosgrove in his own home. Now Tacoma is on his own against an organization with endless resources and no boundaries. Step one requires the near impossible – find and kill the hidden mob boss behind Cosgrove’s death. To do this, he’ll have to take on an army in a battle where there are no rules and no limits.

This book does not pack the wallop that the Dewey Andrea’s series does. I have been in love with Dewey since Power Down, chapter one. Perhaps, the protagonist, Rob Tacoma, will grow on me as the series continues. That being said, it was a good book with good action and suspense. It is a light, easy read and enjoyable.
I read his first book when he was a new, unknown author and was incredibly shocked at how much I loved it. I’ve since read all he’s written and I have insisted all my reading friends read him. They have all agreed
love Ben Coes’ books
This is the first time I’ve read anything by this author and if his previous series is as good as The Russian then I’ve got to read it! A page turner from the start, I fell in love with Rob Tacoma and his lethal skills. The plot had so many twists and turns it made my head spin, but don’t get me wrong, I never got lost in the story. A nail biting, breath taking, sit on the edge of your seat story to the very end!
Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin Press for an arc of this copy, although my review is not influenced in any way.
This is a great fast past page turner! I have never read this author before but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am excited for the next book to come out! Thanks for a great read!
Rob Tacoma is a fierce operative on a mission to avenge wrongs. He is ruthless, fierce and thorough. The story is fast paced and filled with action. He is coloring outside the lines and must depend only on a few people he trusts. The story is detailed and gives great insights into the depths of corruption that can take place in the US government. The story is just beginning and will continue as he continues to root out the evil ones.

When two American politicians, both well known for their opposition to the Russian Mafia, are assassinated on the same night, it is a call to war for President J. P. Dellenbaugh. Acting on the authority of a secret codicil to the Consitution, he forms a clandestine committee of United States Senators to oversee the actions of a two-man CIA kill team. That team will have but one purpose; to find and eliminate the assassins and those who ordered the murders. What follows is a hurricane of betrayal, killing, fast cars, faster jets, beautiful killers, grisly murders, and ugly murderers. Standing in the storm’s eye is one man, Rob Tacoma. He’s good at what he does, but will one man be enough?
“The Russian” fills the bill for a summer read. It has enough substance to keep your interest but is not complex enough to overburden your beach brain. It even has a bit of humor, I mean what man would wear a blue blazer with white piping, a red t-shirt, and white jeans in public? All that’s missing is the Good Humor Man’s cap. Hey, there’s also a sequel in the works for next year!
I recommend this novel to those who really don’t like Russian criminals, and because the author has a large family to support.
St. Martin’s Publishing Group and NetGalley are to blame for the hash I have made of this review because they gave me the ARC on which it is based.
