Some scandals are meant to be…
When Aurora Hyatt loses her journal in Hyde Park, her ruin is a foregone conclusion. After all, if anyone discovers her writings, they’ll find scandalous fantasies involving the newest rake in Town alongside entirely-too-candid thoughts about her typical dreary suitors. Aurora will either be forced into a loveless marriage with the first nodcock to make an offer, … make an offer, or she’ll be assigned a permanent position on the shelf. Oh, dear good Lord. What catastrophe will God smote down upon her next?
If Niles Thornton, Baron Quinton, desires to maintain any semblance of his current lifestyle, he must fulfill the requirements his grandfather, Lord Rotheby, has set for him. First and foremost: he must marry and begin filling his nursery within the year. When he is nearly barreled over by a racing curricle and a journal flies out to land at his feet, his troubles are over. Inside the journals pages, Quin discovers a scandal waiting to happen. Surely a young lady who would write such brazen things in a journal (and then dare to lose it) must recognize the necessity of a hasty marriage, even if the gentleman making the offer is rather less-than-honorable.
In a drunken haze, Quin kisses Aurora on a crowded ballroom floor, necessitating their immediate marriage. Quin’s troubles are only beginning, however, as Aurora’s writings are soon the focus of both gossip rags and drawing room conversation. When word arrives of an even greater scandal following in his wife’s wake, will he prove himself a drunken abuser like his father, or will he become the loving husband of Aurora’s fantasies?

Twice A Rake is a fantastic historical romance by Catherine Gayle. Ms. Gayle has delivered a book that is well-written and populated with a fantastic cast of characters. Aurora loses her journal and hopes it is washed down the river and nobody can ever read it. Niles has to marry and produce an heir. When he finds Aurora’s journal and reads …
The story had promise, but for me, it did not deliver. The editing was middling – more extra words, missing words, and odd sentences than I care to see.
Aurora is almost on-the-shelf because she looks more for the negative than the positive in her prospective suitors. She has an active imagination and likes to write her observations and fantasies …
I want too sure where they were going with it at first. I thought the characters were very entertaining. I got so caught up in the story that I got a bit emotional toward the end. Thinking I may read the others in the series.
***I read this back in May of 2013…. after reading my review and the blurb I think I may be doing a reread in the near …
Fantastic book and absolutely scandalous. I enjoyed every page, from beginning to end
Lord Quinton found a journal containing risqué entries (the author’s secret fantasies and gossip about the local gentry). He seeks Aurora out, boldly and publicly kisses her thus sealing their fate: he must marry her to salvage both their reputations!!! She marries him only after he threatens to publish her diary. He teaches her the pleasures …
Really enjoyed this fast read of two people getting to know each other after they get married to save his inheritance.
This was not your typical historical romance! It had all the elements of one. But it was packed with hilarious twists and turns that seemed they would never end until toward the concluding chapters. After all, life can’t be all humorous, can it?
Highly recommended!
Although I prefer my books a bit cleaner when it comes to intimate scenes, I did enjoy the twists in the story that a lively overactive imagination can create.
Just another silly romance, sometimes I need the break from all the nerve wracking mysteries I read by choice.
This is ok to read, but the premise of the story is not very believable or contrived. The heroine writes scandalous things in her journal like her romantic fantasies and disparaging remarks about people she does not like. Yet she was not careful with it , leaves it open in her room and carelessly brings it with her when she went out with a friend …
A steamy novel about a woman with an imagination and a man on a mission.
