A BODYGUARD FOR THE PRINCESS is a standalone read with a HEA. It is appropriate for all age groups. The story is set in the graduate dorm at Harvard. It is the beginning of school and the students are arriving to get their assigned rooms and to meet roommates. Chloe is a Master’s program student from England. She has a big secret that she needs to keep for her own safety. Plus, she wants to be treated like all the other students. Coming from royalty it is her first big experience with being on her own without a security detail.
The dorm is co-ed and a little more than half the students are from the U.S. and the rest is made up of foreign students from all over the world. This is a privileged group. They are either very smart and on scholarship or have very wealthy families paying their bills. One young man has caught Chloe’s eye, Jason is in an apartment down the hall and shares his space with two other male students.
Everything is moving along quite normally until Chloe’s wakes up before 5 a.m. after hearing a blood curdling scream. At first she thinks it part of a dream but within a few minutes there are sirens, blue and white flashing lights and a lot of noise in the hallways. As the three women head to the door a voice tells them to stay in their room. Frightened, not knowing what is going on, they start to speculate on what is happening.
Within a few minutes they discover one of the dorm mates has committed suicide. Jason has run down to the first floor to investigate and he discovers two young women kneeling over another female covered in blood. Everyone is shocked. Then the word gets out that it wasn’t suicide but murder.
Chloe and Jason form a pack and start to investigate what is going on. This starts their story as they begin to trust one another as well as dealing with the attraction they feel for each other. It is a very entertaining and interesting read. I would definitely recommend it. Jason makes a good hero even though he has a few secrets of his own. Chloe is a smart heroine who proves she can take care of herself.
I received a copy for ARC and was asked for an honest review.
I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 10/3/18
The attractive cover for the eBook caught my attention first of all. Then the author’s name and then the book blurb drew me in. So since I had wanted to read this book for a while when the opportunity came I grabbed it.
This was a quick, fun, light story. Well, it was until more people started getting injured or the fear of their wondering who was “next” kicked in. And the first body happened early in the book. As usual I had my own “suspect” lined up. But no, the twists at the end showed me how wrong I was. Still I did enjoy the journey.
The people in the college dorms all had their own stories, which filled out the book. I wouldn’t say that the innocent people in the book had really deep stories but we do see what happens in their lives two years later. The Epilogue connected a lot of dots about that.
A somewhat predictable H.E.A. for Chloe and Jason. But I think the revelation of the who and why of the killer makes up for it. Didn’t see that one coming.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
This is the first book I have read from this author. I found it to be a cute little romance with a touch of suspense and mystery tossed into the mix. I found the book to be well written, and a interesting read. I would recommend it to others that enjoy a mixture of romance, suspense, drama and mystery. I received this ARC in exchange for my fair and honest review.
This is a wonderful romance that captured my interest from the very beginning with a murder near a princess trying dearly to stay undercover so she can enjoy her student experience at Harvard. All of her new friends seem nice and she can’t imagine one of them is guilty of the crime. When several of the guys seem interested in her, she is even more confused, and doesn’t know who to trust.
This novel kept me guessing about who done it until the end, and I never saw the answer coming. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, especially Chloe, who doesn’t take advantage of her position. I also loved Jason’s character as the guy just trying to do his job, while also maintaining his cover. It seemed like each of the characters had a hidden back story that made them interesting and added depth to the plot.
Fans of the genre will love this book. The author is on my must read authors’ list, and, if you’re a fan of the genre, should probably be on yours as well.
