This a hold your breath kind of story. The end to everything is finally near and it is full of shocking twists that make you hold your breath and moments that make you laugh. I never saw any of the twists coming and their instant passion leap off the pages. Slowly all the details of what happened all those years ago come out to explain why he hates them. You will not know everything until the end because he is twisted and you feel sorry for him at times while hating him. I absolutely loved that the wives figured out one of her secrets and the plan they set in motion. I laughed at Emily and her way of chaperoning. I also can perfectly picture him carrying her up the stairs while looking around.
Lily is full of surprises from her training to who she really. I was completely shocked by her and loved it. She was extremely brave and strong to do everything she did especially in the end. That blew me away and had me holding my breath.
Charles has been slowly slipping away from his friends for some time now. He hides behind that smile of his, but he has a heart of gold and is struggling. I always knew he was going to have the most shocking story.
I absolutely loved his mother and sister.
Copy provided for an honest and voluntary review
Any fan of the series knows and loves Charles, so let me mention his lady since she makes her debut here. She is a triumph! She is self-possessed in an age when women own nothing. She is clever and daring and resourceful. She’s even a little bit wicked in the best possible way. Best of all, she opens Charles’s heart and brings out his poetic side. It’s a joy to read.
Finished it in one day, even thought I didn’t want to let go of the series. It’s such a tremendous story that I couldn’t put it down. Such a delicious ending to the series! Now I want to go back and read them all over again.
Another brilliant addition to the series
This is another brilliantly written addition to a brilliant series. The is a plot that brings a long standing conflict to a conclusion, with characters that are crafted with great determination and passion to overcome their enemy. This amazing book will suit anybody who loves steamy historical romances that have plenty of suspense.
“They’re leaving me behind.” Thus was the thought of Charles about all of his friends in The League of Rouges. All married and happy and he was just alone. The Last Rouge Standing. So he goes to take out his feelings in a boxing match in one the dangerous parts of town. Then he finds himself rescuing Lily from a disaster and at her first chance she escapes him. But not before he received an amazing kiss he could not forget!
Lily was enough problems and secrets but she recognized Charles who did not evidently know who she was. There is a lot going on in this wonderful story!
Do the two meet back up? How did Lily know him?
A very engaging story that made me stay up and read into the night! Have loved this entire series and sad this is the last. But good news on upcoming stories from the amazing Lauren Smith!!!
Charles Humphrey, the Earl of Lonsdale is the last wicked rogue. The League of Rogues has been searching for reasons for the animosity between Hugo Waverley and Charles. I loved the storyline that dealt with the League and more particularly informed us about Charles’ past. Why does he want Charles to suffer, he’s attempted to harm all of his friends and now his end game is about to begin.
One night Charles ventures down Lewis Street to let off some steam boxing and he accidentally rescues a mysterious beauty with eyes as haunted as his own, after her rescue she shares one sensual life changing kiss and then she vanishes in the night. Lily has secrets, too many secrets. I loved it when the rogues’ wives ferret out one of Lily’s secret and set their plan into action. Charles vows to find his angel, but she’s right under his nose and he doesn’t even know it. He knows anyone close to him is in danger and he doesn’t want to place anyone else in jeopardy and in the path of Hugo’s revenge. Lily is incredibly strong and brave, she tries standing up to Hugo and put a stop to his revenge plans, but decides to take matters into her own hands when the time is right. I love Lily and Charles they both deserve to find some happiness in their lives. A great ending to the league of Rogues series, this book was filled with answers to all the unanswered questions I’ve had since book 1. Wow what a climatic ending I loved it!!! The ending was perfect, quite an emotional rollercoaster. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.
Charles’ long-awaited book is finally here and it was definitely worth the wait. It hits the ground running and doesn’t let up until the last page – you absolutely won’t be able to put it down. It is filled with excitement, deviousness, life-long friendships, cunning, plots, and a to-die-for romance. Sadly, it is the last of the books for the main group of Rogues, but wonderfully, it isn’t the last of the series. The series will continue with the siblings of the Rogues and their wives and who knows – maybe on down to the children of the Rogues. The book is so exciting that I’m going to have a hard time not including spoilers in the review simply because once I start writing about it, I don’t think I can quit! I see many edits in the future for this review.
You’ll still find excerpts from the Lady Society column interspersed throughout the book and they are always fun to read. You’ll also find spots of humor. As a matter of fact, the very first chapter begins with a humorous scene that showcases the friendship between the Rogues.
Charles Humphrey, the Earl of Lonsdale, has gotten more and more lonely, restless, and almost despairing over the last year. Each of his friends in the League of Rogues has found love and started families and while they still try to include him, he still somehow feels separate and alone. He finds himself more and more often participating in dangerous pass times. One of those is boxing – not at Gentleman Jackson’s, but in the Lewis Street Tunnels. Those are dangerous places to be – very dangerous. While there one night, his would-be opponent wagers a woman, a very unwilling woman, as the prize. Charles cannot let the woman stay with these brutes, so he has to win. Luckily, he is smart, cunning and very good at boxing. Once he has won, he leaves with the woman, she kisses him, tells him her name is Lily, distracts him and disappears. He’s never met such an intriguing woman and he can’t stop thinking of her.
Lily Linley is a woman with many, many secrets and none of them are good – well – except for one. In disguise, she’s spent a lot of time with Charles and she is petrified that he recognized her when he rescued her. He can’t find out her secrets – even though she’s come to admire him – a lot. You’ll love Lily! She had some awful things happen to her, but she is smart and resourceful and has learned to survive within the parameters in which she has to live. If you want a strong heroine, Lily is it.
Hugo is ready to set his end-game in motion and finally have his revenge on Charles and the League. We finally learn all of the history between Charles and Hugo – even Charles doesn’t know all of it. We learn what has driven Hugo to such intense hatred. Hugo has all of his spies in place and he knows what is going on in each of the Leaguer’s home, now it is time for them to act and end it all.
I really wanted to learn more about Phillip Wilkes, the Earl of Kent. I hope that the reason that we didn’t see what happened to him is that he’ll have his own book in the future. If not, I’m disappointed in that. I think maybe he’ll have a book with Charles’ sister.
I highly recommend the book. It is filled with wonderful characters, a lovely romance and non-stop action. You’ll never know what will happen next. You know something will happen, but you don’t know what.

“I requested and received this e-book at no cost to me and volunteered to read it; my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.”
Charles Humphrey, the Earl of Lonsdale is infamous for his seductions. With laughing gray eyes and a halo of blond hair, he’s every woman’s wicked dream. Beneath that devil-may-care grin he has a painful past that has made him sure love was not for him, even as the rest of his friends, the members of the League of Rogues, settle down in wedded bliss. When he accidentally rescues a mysterious beauty with eyes as haunted as his own and shares one life-changing kiss with her, she vanishes in the night. Lily has secrets, too many secrets. When she’s abducted and taken into the London underworld by a gang of nefarious brutes, she’s rescued by Charles.
This is the story I’ve been waiting for & it didn’t disappoint. The characterisation is superb, the story is fast paced, it has twists and turns that leave you breathless. The history between Charles & Hugo is finally revealed & the Rogues have their work cut out to foil Hugo’s plans. There’s tension, humour, intrigue, deception & of course romance. I was enthralled from the first page & engrossed until the last, a very fitting story for the last rogue
