Penny For Your Thoughts: A Sweet Romance (Sand Dollar Series Book 1)
By: J. D. Boudreaux
5 out of 5 stars
The story Penny For Your Thoughts: A Sweet Romance (Sand Dollar Series Book 1) by J. D. Boudreaux is a contemporary romance book. It is a story that grabbed my attention from the beginning and had me hooked. I loved reading about the characters of Penny and Alex. Penny is a woman who has her future planned. She has the determination and drive in order to be successful. Alex is a man that is kind and thoughtful. He has a need to help others. He meets Penny through one act of kindness. What does the future hold for both Alex and Penny? Read this book to find out. This is a wonderful story that I enjoyed reading. There is romantic, emotional, and humorous dialogue. There are moments that are sad and also moments that are heartwarming. As you read about Penny and Alex, I got a better idea of how each one of them deals with situations that occur. There are characters that I grew to care about with each chapter that I read. The book had my emotions going up and down the entire time. The story had me lost in the pages and not wanting to put it down until I had finished it. There are other additional characters that are introduced. Some have a larger part than others. Each has their own part to play in the story as they interact with either Penny, Alex, or both of them together. This was a wonderful story to read and one I would recommend to others.
Penny For Your Thoughts, Sand Dollar Series Book One, by J. D. Boudreaux
5-stars
Penny For Your Thoughts is a wonderful sweet romance. Main characters Alex and Penny meet after Alex stops to help Penny with her fake flat tire. She really is doing her first news piece focusing on Southern hospitality. The two have a spark and their relationship buds. Alex was a complex character really and there was more going on with him than seen. I loved that he was an Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist. I haven’t seen that career choice for main characters very often. Penny was very sweet and focused. I strongly disliked her family but could easily see how it influenced and shaped her. The storyline was easy to follow and very addictive. I also like how the author introduces Payton’s character and her mix into this story. Great book!

Penny for Your Thoughts is 1st book in the Sand Dollar Series for J D Boudreaux. A quaint southern romance This was a cute and totally enjoyable story with not only charming characters but with interesting secondary characters that capture your interest.
Penny is a planner. She has planned out her life and is taking the first step by getting a new job as a news reporter. She’s always been able to achieve success because of her determination but things aren’t going smoothly for her new start. Stranded on the side of the road Penny gets help from a passing motorist. But there seems to be more than meets the eye with this handsome Good Samaritan.
Alex thought he was your average good guy. So, when he spots a car stranded on the side of the road, he doesn’t hesitate to stop and assist the motorist. He’s not expecting this one act of kindness will irrevocably change his life. But isn’t that how fate works??
While I enjoyed reading this book, I was disappointed that there seemed to be items that were just left dangling. I don’t know if these will be addressed in the next book but I felt I was left with a lot of “what happened next” times during the book. The scenes Penny and Alex were priceless, I could have read more of those, for sure! This book has all some good feels, friendship, romance, and the story comes together nicely. Looking forward to having these characters pop up in future books.
Penny For Your Thoughts: A Sweet Romance by J.D. Boudreaux is the first book in the Sand Dollar Series. Penny is having the day that will not end. Alex is a good guy who comes to her aide in her time of need. Can one act of kindness actually change the course of someone’s life?
This is a sweet story that had me rooting for Penny and Alex. The two are realistic because they are not perfect and have their imperfections. Overall, I enjoyed this read but felt at times that the story dragged. I seemed to get overwhelmed by some of the dialogue. I liked the story and the characters and look forward to reading more from this series. I am hoping that the sweet characters continue into the next book.
Penny For Your Thoughts is a simple sweet romance. J. D. Bourdreaux is a mastermind at writing characters that are complex but, in the same fashion able to relate to them. I felt such a connection with Penny. I could see me being with her on this journey of a relationship with Alex. Alex is one who likes to help people in need and that is what Penny was a lady in need. Who would have thought that a simple random act of kindness would bring two people close together to form a bond that will test the age of time?
Penny for your thoughts was a good four star read and book one in the Sand Dollar series.
Alex notices a woman on the side of the road with a flat, he turns around to help her and gets more than he bargained for.
Penny is a reporter and when Alex stopped to help her she let him in on a little secret. It seems she had been on the side of the road for hours and he was the only one to stop.
Fate steps in and these two end up running into each other at the mall getting lunch. They move forward from here and get to know each. They both have some things in their past that they are trying to move forward from. It was great reading how their relationship developed and the things that were challenging them.
It may not always be in front of you, but it’s there. My love is always there. -Alex
Maybe not every question leads to an answer, and maybe not every answer stems from a question.
Alex was very kind and had a big heart. Penny was up and down for me overall she was a strong character. The secondary characters added a great element to the story. I was emotionally spent by the time I was done and the ending really threw me for a loop. I need to see where this goes and hope it continues in book 2. J.D. Boudreaux does a great job of pulling you in with her writing. Overall I enjoyed this book and suggest you 1-click and get started today on this series.
A great read about kindness. Penny Scott is a journalist just starting out on her career. Whilst doing a project about good Samaritans, she is helped get back on the road by stranger Alex. Bumping into him at a mall, she becomes friends with him over food. Slowly, they fall for each other but can their relationship survive their busy work schedules?
A great read. Well developed plot. Well developed characters like Alex sarcastic but kind underneath or Penny standing up for herself but caring underneath/ Great cast of supporting characters like the voice of reason in Aarpn or the sweet mother figure of Emily or the teasing father James.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel with the busy city full of life and people or the scenes in the park with the pond and the bridge across the island with its white bench in the gentle beauty of nature as one quiet spot, intimate and peaceful. Or the use of food, with its scents and smells so strong as if you were there, comforting and homely. I also loved the play on words and use of language which was cleverly done perfectly written to create the sense of wit and humour the book needed for the realistic nature of lovers teasing each other
I loved how the way the romance developed from people liking each other first instead of couples coming from beginnings in hatred as is more common. This made the romance more believable and relatable for the reader and also more realistic and engaging. An enjoyable romance. Overal, a great read and I would give it five stars.

I started this series with Book 2 and I know better than to do that but I really was excited to get the history of these characters as I had a few questions when I finished book 2, I did get some of the answers I was looking for and it’s really hard to judge but I really liked booked 2 better than this one and I can’t fault the author for that since Im out of order.
The writing in this one was just as fantastic as the other and flowed smoothly…It did drag just a bit in some places but I found I still didn’t skim ahead.
I do know that I can not wait to jump in to book 3 as I’ve become completely invested in these people and this story…I’m most interested in Payton, she has had me the most confused through this story and I need to see where Alex ends up and if he can ever find his happily ever after.
Loved this book and absolutely adore this series.
Penny For Your Thoughts is book one in the Sand Dollar series by JD Boudreaux. As this was my first time reading this author, I was unsure of what was to be this story, but I had a feeling I would enjoy this book immensely.
This wonderful story was sweet and adorable. The characters easy to relate to and enjoyable to learn about. The story flowed along seamlessly and it was apparent the effort the author out in to deliver a high quality, entertaining read. I was smitten with the main characters and hung off every word. A masterclass of words. A talented web of glorious moments and good love and romance. 4 stars.
Penny for Your Thoughts by J D Boudreaux
Four Stars
Finding the right partner is always difficult even when the meeting is easy. When you take that next step and decide it’s really love. But what people I think people miss is that having a person to talk to or that takes care of you is different then loving someone. Penny and Alex learn the differences and it takes their relationship in a different direction. As the story progressed I noticed the moments that seemed forced between them. I noticed their need for independence. The author put a spot light on relationships that are done out of convenience. Relationships based on fleeting emotions. I really liked this story it wasn’t all rose colored glasses.
Penny For your Thoughts by J.D. Boudreaux a five-star read that will have you thinking. This is the first novel in the Sand Dollar series and I for one can’t wait on the next one, it was charmingly romantic but there was a real current throughout. Yes, love is amazing but its also hard, this story does have places that it could have been polished in places and it could have gone better, but it shows us the talent of the author coming through and the story was so good. Penny was a good character, you will find her story and be thrilled by it when you add Alex to the mix it just makes it so much better. I can’t wait to see the next one as I hope the author has improved the bits that need it, I have a good feeling that the experience will only develop, and we will see some great writing from this author.
This book hooked me! The characters and author hooked me from the beginning and this was a sweet and beautiful love story that you will love.
Alex and Penny are beautifully written. you will love them and they will break your but by the end of the story your heart will be renewed.
Alex is someone who fixes everything and I feel like Penny is someone who fights what she has and with a chance encounter the sparks fly.
JD Boudreaux has me hooked to her writing and she makes me rave more!
PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS is a “sweet romance”. A sweet romance as defined by Cathy McDavid: “sweet romances emphasize the developing romantic relationship, focusing on the emotional conflicts standing between the couple and their struggle to overcome those conflicts. Love scenes have no more physical intimacy than kissing. They can be tender or a bit more intense but always with undeniable sexual undercurrents which are gently stated rather than explicit. The characters can have ugly or traumatic pasts, such as abuse or rape or addiction, but none of that takes place in the here and now. Mild curses like damn are acceptable if used in moderation and not gratuitously.”
The typical sweet romances that I’ve read are shorter than full length novels and have a complete beginning, middle and end in its brevity. That is not the case with PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS. This is an extremely detailed telling of a story and, at times, it is so detailed that I found myself a little frustrated wanting the story to move quicker.
I really enjoyed how the story started out. I think it’s a great look at the human condition of how people help others in distress. There is a lot good about both of the main characters, I think the point sometimes got buried in all of the details. There are some really cute and funny moments while this relationship develops. It was all just too much.
I always appreciate an author’s hard work when putting “pen to paper” and you can see the effort that this author put into the story and I will keep an eye out for future books this author writes.
Penny For Your Thoughts by JD Boudreaux is book one in the Sand Dollar Series. This is a slower paced story focused on Penny and Alex. The storyline is smooth and flows from one point to the next flawlessly. I’m not quite sure about my feeling with this story, there were some real life struggles in it that I’m sure many can relate to. Penny and Alex each have their own issues and goals with life but can their love survive it?
