Twenty years ago, the horror world was forever altered by the publication of Necroscope. An instant classic, Brian Lumley’s astonishing feat of imagination spawned a universe which Lumley has explored and expanded through more that a baker’s dozen of novels and novellas. Millions of copies of Necroscope and its successors are in print in a dozen languages throughout the world. Nominated for the … Nominated for the British Fantasy Award, Necroscope has inspired everything from comic books and graphic novels to sculptures and soundtracks.
This new edition of Necroscope uses the author’s preferred text and includes a special introduction by Brian Lumley, telling how the Necroscope saga came to be. It also includes chapter ornaments by Hugo-Award-Winning artist Bob Eggleton, long identified with Lumley’s blood-sucking monsters.
As a classic, Necroscope rightfully claims a place in the Orb trade paperback list, for scholars of the field and the dedicated Lumley collector. And also for all the people who have read more than one mass market copy of the book to tatters.
Harry Keogh is the man who can talk to the dead, the man for whom every grave willingly gives up its secrets, the one man who knows how to travel effortlessly through time and space to destroy the vampires that threaten all humanity.
In Necroscope, Harry is startled to discover that he is not the only person with unusual mental powers–Britain and the Soviet Union both maintain super-secret, psychically-powered espionage organizations. But Harry is the only person who knows about Thibor Ferenczy, a vampire long buried in the mountains of Romania–still horribly alive, in undeath–and Thibor’s insane “offspring,” Boris Dragosani, who rips information from the souls of the dead in a terrible, ever-lasting form of torture.
Somehow, Harry must convince Britain’s E-Branch that only by working together can they locate and destroy Dragosani and his army of demonic warriors–before the half-vampire succeeds in taking over the world

I remember seeing the cover to this book (along with a few of its sequels) in book shops as a kid, but never got around to picking it up. Well, I’m certainly glad I got around to undoing that mistake.
I loved this book! It’s a great blending of horror and military/spy thriller revolving around the esoteric governmental departments of Russia and Britain during the Cold War, as national rivalry and their own need for dominance has them both trying to develop a secret branch of individuals with various psychic abilities to employ as spies.
This book is a slow burn, but not to its detriment. On the contrary, I found that it only helped to develop the excellent characters, and immerse the reader deeper and deeper into the growing occult aspects of Harry Keogh and Dragosani, the respective British and Russian agents, as their burgeoning powers and departmental handlers gradually build them up towards a great climatic showdown.
If you love espionage backdrops populated with necromancers, vampires, and other supernatural goings-on, then you should definitely check out Necroscope.
I can’t wait to start the second book!
The whole series was well written
I just loved this series so much! I wish they would turn it into a TV series…where are you Netflix? Amazon Prime? Anyone…please put this series on screen!
A Great book, great characters, lots of strange creatures & so much more. You should not need to depend on any review. This will be a classic & is a great read with nothing like it!
One of the best vampire series of all time. Definitely a classic.

Best vampire books I’ve Ever read. Have already read 3 times. And will probably read it again!.
Awesome series loved it.
This is an original novel about vampires, as well as various superpowers. The annotation of the novel contains some spoilers, and it is better not to fully disclose it, or even better not to read it at all.
Plot. Rating 4
I think I should admit that the plot of the book is quite simple. The narration is mainly conducted from the perspective of two characters, although there are still a few secondary and episodic points of view. The events of the novel are shown in an interesting way; they captivate the reader with the constant solving of the mystery in the first part of the book, and the opposition of the characters in the second part of the book, which is reported in the annotation. Also, in the book there are some riddles that awaken the desire to move on to the next book in the series.
It seemed to me that some events in the Harry Keogh storyline were not particularly necessary for the plot of the novel nor the characterization of the hero himself.
Characters. Rating 4
Both main characters are well described. I plunged into them quite deeply, felt their desires and goals. The antagonist seemed to me more interesting because of the difficulties that he overcame. The supporting characters are interesting, especially the ones that dominated the main characters in the book.
Dialogues. Rating 3
The dialogues in the book are not bad; although, for me they are somewhat lengthy and unnecessary at some points. The dialogues show the emotions and motives of the characters well, and also keep suspense in their verbal conflicts. More often than necessary, the characters tried to impose on the reader their assessment of the emotional state of the interlocutors in their thoughts and remarks in the dialogues.
Writing style. Rating 4
The book is easy to read, although it contains a few somewhat unnecessary descriptions and minor events. I liked the descriptions in the Dragosani storyline, which nicely created a special atmosphere about his abilities and about vampires. The book also has some great hardcore scenes that make it a part of the horror genre.
Peacebuilding. Rating 5
Working out various ideas about vampires and interacting with the dead is very good for the time of writing (1992), and interesting to read now. The secrets of the past are described in an entertaining way. The book also features intelligence services opposition, adding to the versatility of the narrative.
Conclusion. Overall rating 4
I think the book will appeal to all fans of the horror genre, vampire books, and books with a tense plot.
