Winter is supposed to be beautiful.Snowball fights. Hot chocolate by a fire. Brightly-packaged presents. It’s definitely not supposed to be about frozen bodies, serial killers, and boyfriends with secrets.Victoria and Kyle are in the midst of a still-blossoming relationship, but she hasn’t told him the truth about herself yet. She’s not ready. Of course, he’s hiding something too. And he doesn’t … hiding something too. And he doesn’t even know it. Love’s complicated.
Then there’s Victoria’s work. Death doesn’t take a holiday, and neither can she. When a father walks into her business wanting a funeral for his missing son, she’s only sure of one thing—the father needs closure, and that’s something she can understand.
Then a body turns up, and things go from ‘odd grieving father’, to ‘murderously strange’ in a heartbeat.
With threats mounting, both in her professional and personal life, Victoria must solve a puzzle of death, dolls, and dark obsession.
If she doesn’t, someone she loves might die.

Such an amazing story!! Love Tori and all the challenges she experiences in her life. Can’t wait to see how she develops into her powers. Definitely a must read!!
Victoria Cage aka Tori is back! The story picks up where the first book left off, but six months have passed. Tori and Kyle have become an item now, Tori has spent the past six months healing from her brutal encounter with her step-brother and the twisted Blackthorn, and Liam has been missing since the incident. Kyle continues to change and yet stay the same. Tori is happy, but her happiness won’t last much longer as she will soon be faced with ultimatums, not from one, but two people in her life concerning her secrets. Tori knows the dangers facing her should she ever be exposed, but she’s not willing to lose what she has come to obtain in her life either. When Tori gets a request from a bereaved man to have a funeral for a son who has disappeared, and there is no body, her heart goes out to him. She sees how grief-stricken he is, and so she says yes. What she doesn’t know is that soon bodies will start turning up. She’ll see things she never thought she’d see, and the workings of a serial killer will be unearthed. Tori is going to have her hands full with the men in her life, running her business, and helping to solve these heinous murders before the murderer can strike again…or someone close to her…is going to die.
Water of Souls is Eli Constant’s second book in her Victoria Cage Necromancer series. Once again, this book is one that you won’t want to put down. You’ll be turning page after page long into the day, and ignoring everything else around you. This book, like the first, is THAT good. I love Tori. She is such an engaging character. I appreciate how she continues to develop as a character. She sees herself a certain way and she wants to improve on that. When I say this, I don’t mean just physically. In the first book, Tori views herself as a thick chick, and she wants to slim down. In this book, she’s working toward that, but she also knows that she needs to become stronger in abilities as the Blood Queen. Her step-brother isn’t going away, and she knows she needs to be able to stand against him. Let me tell you this, this author has a TON of surprises in this book. I’m sure reader that you have a few guesses as to what is going on with Kyle, but you might be both right and wrong. But trust me! Finding out…it’s fantastic!
I like how much Tori is really coming into her own in this book. She is growing, being more assertive and doing what she must. I will admit that there are a couple moments of where I mentally scold her for her actions. On a day when she has a funeral, she’s still laying up in the bed with Kyle. Then things go sideways between them briefly, and she loses it for a minute. I love her humanity, but I don’t approve of the lead-up. I’d have done things differently, but I have to admit that it makes for some intense scenes to follow.
This book is truly intense. The author delves deeper into things that we’ve never seen before and touches on subjects that aren’t always the easiest to deal with. A father dealing with the loss of his child, but it goes deeper than that. Tori and Kyle are dealing with relationship issues, but it goes deeper than that for them. Her brother makes a few appearances in this story, but nothing heavy. But I have a feeling from the little note that is dropped at the end that the next book is truly going to get intense for Tori, Kyle, and even Liam.
I can’t get enough of this series. It is just so FAN-TASTIC!! We get new characters, we get new situations, new revelations, and so much more. Needless to say, I am bey-ond excited for the next book in this series. I see troubled waters ahead for Tori, but I just hope that she’ll keep her head about it and stay strong. Also, be forewarned…keep a box of kleenex nearby. There are two scenes in this book that will really hit you right in the heart and the tears will flow! I for sure cried because of how heartbreaking those scenes were. Heartbreaking, but still fantastic.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book is one of those ones that literally leaves you craving the next in the series. I honestly can’t wait. If you haven’t started reading these books, then you are honestly missing out on a really good thing. Eli Constant has struck gold with this series, and they just keep getting better. The story flows from start to finish, there are no skips, everything is covered and easy to follow. If you start reading this book, clear your schedule for the next few hours because you won’t be going anywhere.
Water of Souls is the 2nd book in the Victoria Cage, Necromancer series by Eli Constant. I didn’t think it was possible, but Water of Souls is actually even better than the first book, Garden of Lilies.
I can’t get over how much I love Tori. She is such a realistic and relatable character, you can’t help but love her. She is flawed in ways many of us are. It’s nice to see a main female character who isn’t super confident and perfect. She’s an average woman with a couple of little extras. She trips over cracks in the sidewalk just like the rest of us, looking around hoping no one saw us look like a clumsy fool.
As the story goes on and we get deeper into the world of Tori and her Blood Queen status, we are learning more and more about the other people in her life and their dirty little secrets. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
I do like how Constant has been tackling difficult social topics. There is a character in Water of Souls who isn’t quite who he seems and Constant handles it in a way that is respectful as well as informative. She doesn’t turn this character into a novelty, which I’ve noticed has been lately occurring in many other books.
Overall, Water of Souls is another great book by Eli Constant and a fantastic step further into this world of forbidden Necromancy, Fae, Blood Queens, and Funeral homes. This is definitely one series to keep a sharp eye on!
