A vulnerable hero who grows stronger as his vulnerabilities are revealed highlights “Second Chance with the Single Dad”. a touching contemporary romance from wonderful storyteller Kandy Shepherd. Wil Hudson is tall, dark, and handsome–and wealthy through his business success as a genius engineer. His personal life is another matter, and his world is turned upside down when he learns after his ex-wife’s death that she had borne him a daughter. Stunned that she would keep such a secret, Wil is determined to care for his infant daughter, Nina, but he can’t do it all on his own. He needs Georgia, the best friend he had turned away from when he had married Nina’s mother. Georgia is still hurt by Wil’s disappearance from her life two years ago. Now he’s back, asking for her help, and against her better instincts for self-preservation, she agrees. After all, it’s hard to resist two sets of beautiful, hopeful brown eyes–Wil’s and Nina’s, whose eyes are just like those of her father. Previously, in order not to lose their valued friendship, Wil and Georgia had kept their relationship strictly platonic, each ignoring a glimmer of longing for something more. Now, together again under such emotional circumstances, those longings are growing into a desire for a deeper relationship. However, each of them has their own issues to work through, especially Wil, who has never told Georgia the truth of the trying circumstances of his turbulent childhood. Can Wil and Georgia clear away the shadows of the past and look forward to a bright future with precious little Nina? Kandy Shepherd is one of my longtime favorite authors, and she writes appealing characters whose lives and loves evolve through compelling story lines.

This was a sweet friends-to-lovers story. Wil and Georgia had met at university and became best friends, there for each other through all of their romantic ups and downs. Though both had stronger feelings, they kept their relationship strictly platonic, each of them afraid of ruining their friendship if something went wrong. Then Wil married and completely disappeared from Georgia’s life, with no explanation why. Two years later, Wil showed up at Georgia’s door, desperate for her help.
Wil had a turbulent childhood that he never talked about with anyone. Though he was later adopted by a loving family, there was always a part of him that he held back. His marriage had been a mistake from the beginning; one of the worst effects being his wife’s demand that he drop his friendship with Georgia. After the marriage ended, Wil was too embarrassed to reach out to Georgia, until circumstances forced his hand. He received the shock of his life when his ex died and left him custody of the baby girl he knew nothing about. I loved his determination to be the best father he could be. His scenes with little Nina were beautiful.
I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Wil and Georgia. In the two years apart, Georgia overcame her need to please everyone and learned to stand up for her goals. Wil’s appearance and plea for help struck at the heart of her progress. Something in her wanted to say yes right away, but another part refused to go back to her old ways. I loved the way that she was straightforward about his treatment of her and didn’t just roll over immediately. As Wil found ways to draw Georgia deeper into his life, she had to work hard to keep their relationship to friends only. I loved seeing the deepening of their friendship to more as they spent time together taking care of little Nina. I ached for Georgia as she realized the depth of her feelings for Wil and believed that he didn’t feel the same way. I also hurt for Wil, who was afraid to risk his heart for fear of rejection and losing her from his life forever. The ending was sweet as Wil fumbled his big moment, and Georgia found a way to give him a do-over.
Wil Hudson’s parents died when he was very young. As a result, he went through the foster care system with many of the homes not the best. He is finally adopted by a wonderful family at thirteen and finds out what it was like to be loved. Years later he meets Georgina Lane at college while trying to sign up for an equestrian club. They parted ways for five years when Wil married Angie. Angie was abusive and crazy and they divorce. When Angie suddenly dies, Wil finds out that he has a five year old daughter, Nina. Not knowing what to do, he shows up at Georgie’s door and asks for help. Reluctantly, Georgie agrees. Soon Georgie begins to develop feelings for both Wil and Nina but tries to keep it hidden. Will struggles with his feelings for Georgie because he is ashamed of his early life in foster homes and thinks she will reject him as a result. With a lot of assurances and love, she breaks through his barriers.
This story tugged at my heart strings. Kandy Shepard has written characters you want to see have a happy ending. Georgia had a lot of patience waiting for Wil to finally open up with his terrible early childhood. He ended up surprised when she still told him that she had feelings for her best friend. Many shared interests help unite this couple including the horses they both loved. Georgie helped him realize that is worthy of love and could get their happily ever after. This was a sweet read and I enjoyed the story.
4 1/2 STARS!
An adorable baby, reunited friendship and the spark of something more! I really enjoyed the latest from Kandy Shepherd. I was quickly hooked by the intrigue of how a friend could walk away from another plus the addition of a surprise baby. The characters were both interesting, the baby was a doll, and their growing attraction sewed it all up into a heartwarming story!
Georgia Lang can’t believe her eyes when her long-lost best friend shows up on her doorstep. They were inseparable throughout college and beyond, but one day he unexpectedly married and disappeared from her life. Two years later he’s all of a sudden showing up expecting her to forgive and forget!
Wil Hudson felt too much for Georgia back then, and when circumstances with another woman spiraled out of control, he took a step back and went with the flow. His ill-advised marriage didn’t last and now he’s reaching out to Georgia to help him with the surprise of a lifetime … the daughter he didn’t know he had!
This story is just so beautiful, I loved it from start to finish MS Shepherd had my heart soring with the love that these two have for each other, even if it was so very off limits for many years, but life has thrown a spanner in the works in the form of a beautiful baby girl Nina, and maybe now they will have the HEA that they both so very much deserve, truly you will not want to put this one down once you start.
Will Hudson had a pretty tough childhood, going between foster homes but eventually he was adopted into a beautiful family who helped him see the good person he was, he went to university and made many friends but one in particular Georgia Lang, best friends are what people need and they made it stay that way. Life gets in the way sometimes and Wil made lots of money and met Angie whom he married this pulled him away from Georgia and for two years they had not seen each other, but now Wil needs his best friend again.
Georgia had a great life growing up, and made fast friends with Wil at university, there was a special bond between them, a bond that she needed to keep on a platonic level, she never wanted to lose her best friend and falling in love would change that, but now Wil is back on her doorstep hurt and needing her, and Georgia the person who is always there for everyone jumps in to help, but this time there will be no saving her heart from falling even more in love with Wil and his daughter Nina.
This is a story that shows how love can grow between best friends and MS Shepherd has done it so well, she has written a story that will stay with me for a long time to come, the emotions and love that fly off the pages in this one had me smiling and sighing, I loved the setting and the animals that are just so good and with other characters that all add to the romantic and gorgeous journey to a HEA that was just so perfect, thank you MS Shepherd I did love Will, Georgia and Nina.
I loved this book, even if I was hindered in reading it the way I wanted to. I loved the straightforwardness of Georgia, her honesty and her understanding of Wil. She certainly is not a pushover, even if Wil “surprises” her over and over with engagement announcements. She has known him for over eight years and still she realises that she didn’t know him that well, when he tells her his secrets. And with baby Nina in the mix, here’s a great love story about two friends falling in love and this second time it’s for real.
Georgia and Wil were best friends until he married and disappeared from her life. Now he’s back, asking Georgia to forget the past and help him secure his future—the daughter he never knew he had!
Georgia’s heart goes out to new dad Wil, but there’s an uncharted chemistry fizzing between them and she must protect her heart. Can they confront their unspoken attraction and finally become a family?
Georgia Lane hasn’t seen or heard from her best friend Wil Hudson in about two years. He got married and WHAM he went silent. Now he is standing on her front doorstep. What a shock! Georgia isn’t sure how she should react. She was very hurt when Wil ghosted her after his marriage. Why is he here now?
Wil Hudson almost didn’t knock on Georgia’s door. He didn’t know how she would react to his sudden reappearance after years of no contact, but he needed her. She was always there for him in the past and he fervently hoped she would be there for him again now. He needed Georgia for moral support and maybe more. He just found out his ex-wife died in a car accident and even more startling he found out he is a father to seven-month-old baby girl Nina. He really needs Georgia’s support and help. Will she forgive him and be his friend again?
Second Chance with the Single Dad by Kandy Sheperd is a sweet romance with very likeable main characters. The storyline flows smoothly and the events as the story unfolds are quite believable. I really enjoy friends to lovers stories and this is especially enjoyable with baby Nina as part of the dynamic of the hero’s and heroine’s relationship. Anyone who enjoys friends to lovers stories or surprise baby stories will want to read this book.
