The one who fixed me has become my toxin. What happens when ‘till death do us part’ becomes … toxin.

I don’t have enough stars for this book! THIS book gave me all the feels and emotions on what love is worth. Yes there is cheating, but as you read it you understand the heartache Mads endures.

Since Bree is a new author to me, I decided to read this when given the chance. It certainly did not disappoint. This book was very emotional and even if you think you know what’s going on, you don’t. The writing was amazing and the characters, Maddie and Cain, will rip at your heartstrings. This book is one of the top books I’ve read this year. I’ll definitely be reading more from Bree if they are anything like this.
The Solemn Vow was such a heartfelt tale. It really got me right in the heart where few stories ever reach.
I have to admit when I read the blurb it didn’t exactly give me the best first impression; after all cheating is not exactly the kind of thing I normally like reading about. But this story is so obviously told from the heart that I couldn’t judge Maddie. She did what she did because she was coming from a place of untold pain. Her husband Cain, the man who healed her from the pain her first (and whom she thought was her true) love dealt her. But then Cain changed and became the one hurting her. Hurting her so badly she couldn’t help but turn to someone else to comfort her. That that someone else happened to be her first love was a bit of a weird coincidence, but nonetheless, Maddie was doing what we’d all do in her situation – look for someone to comfort her and relieve some of her pain. I get it, I empathize, and I don’t judge. How could I possibly judge the poor woman?!
In the end, Maddie has to choose – the man who healed her from the pain her first love dealt her, or the man who broke her heart in the first place and is helping relieve her of the pain her second love is inflicting upon her. God, what a freakin’ choice. I know whom I wanted Maddie to choose and she didn’t let me, or herself down. Who will you want her to choose? Her first love? Or her current love?
I don’t want to give spoilers, just know that even if you don’t normally do cheating books, I highly recommend you read The Solemn Vow. It’s beautifully told. It’s a bit heart-wrenching. It’s emotional and angsty. Yes, there’s cheating, but it’s not salaciously told or thoughtless. You’ll most likely find yourself sympathizing and empathizing with Maddie as her husband tears their lives to shreds and she finds someone to heal her a bit. And by the time her hard fought for ending comes around, you’ll have shed a few tears and will be thinking “WOWZA!!” because it’s an emotional rollercoaster of a ride. And then when you get to the end and read the author’s note about how this story came to be, you’ll be in wonder that it’s all based on a real couple. Yep, it’s all true except the names! Holy freakin hell!
This was a first for me from this author and to be honest I wasn’t sure if I was gonna like it. It started out a little slow, in fact, I had to put it down and walk a way for a bit. When I tried again I found that after the first chapter or two it became more interesting and I slowly the characters grew on me and I wanted to know what would happen. I found myself rooting for a couple of the characters and had more than one “Oh No” moment. I want to thank you Bree for writing this story, because it ended up being real, inspiring and thought provoking. It was a story that I could relate to and that I think others will as well.
Hot diggidy damn this book was way more than I was expecting. When I read the blurb and saw at the bottom that there was cheating involved, I said to myself that I needed to read this one now because I know, for a fact, that this book was going to have my emotions in a turmoil rage”.
Bree Dahlia is a new author for me. I was very, very impressed with this book and I loved every moment, every minute of every second of this book. I have to say that it emotionally broke me to pieces because of the situation Maddie found herself in.
How do you move on from the love of your life who shattered your heart to pieces and all because he had to go by what his beliefs, religion and mother wanted for him. Not only was Maddie hurting, so was Jake but he thought he was doing the right thing by breaking Maddie’s heart. In his heart, he didn’t do it intentionally.
Although I loved Jake and he sounded like a nice guy. I did not agree with him stringing Maddie along. She was going to be the bigger person when it came to Jake, I mean she was making some major, major decisions for him. Granted, her husband was acting like a jerk towards her and although he was going through some things himself, that didn’t give him the right to mistreat her, but him acting like a real jerk is what led her back into Jake’s arms to begin with.
Granted, Maddie has never forgotten her first love and the love she really thought was her only love and believed that they were destined to be together and would end up together. But sometimes when someone comes along and promises to help heal your broken heart is all it takes for them to succeed. Cain was succeeding until he wasn’t.
Only thing is, can Cain rectify his mistakes with his wife and can Maddie finally let her past go and start a fresh, again??
This book really, really won my heart and it’s going on my top read of 2018. I love a book that will give me angst and will leave me an emotional wreck and this book did it to me. I was heartbroken for these three people, but in the end, I think Maddie did the right thing, she chose wisely this time around.
Now I’m going to have to go through her book catalog because now I want to read more from this author!
This is a beautifully written story that feels impossible yet keeps you hoping and wondering. You want to hate some characters but you can’t also help but empathize and love because we’re all human and feeling. Just keep reading beyond few pages and you will be hooked.
