Why not take every inch of what she’s always wanted before she dies?Ember is a geek princess and works for CESS Industries. She travels the stars, is rolling in money, but she may as well be in chains. What she really needs is to find out her past, the names of her parents, and to maybe find a male who turns her on. She craves the BIG guys, like the orcs, though society says it’s taboo. When the … on. She craves the BIG guys, like the orcs, though society says it’s taboo.
When the planet she’s on is invaded by a zealot horde, death is almost guaranteed, so why not screw society… and her half-orc guard, Hoss.
Only they don’t die. They get rescued by Baz, an angry, cyborg, space-junker captain with a mortgage on his dick and a lecherous eye on Ember. He aims to upgrade his most intimate tool and big will do, but what does a man really need to be perfect again?
These two males both want in her pants, her bed, and maybe her heart.
Devour Steel to discover how to multi-task while handling a cyborg and an orc… a trio of nefarious cybermonks, an invisible dragon, a ton of betrayal, and a smidgen of Armageddon.
Warning:
Like PREY, this book is not gritty uber-dark such as Cari Silverwood often writes. It is the pansy dark you reach for when you’re all darked out and one step from seeing a therapist.
It’s carnal, naughty, and very twisted, and not what your mother ever wanted you to read. Also, there may be some robots that go PEW PEW.
Steel is a standalone read.

A perfectly fun, crazy, entertaining and super steamy read, with a touch of dubious-consent
A cyborg with a massive, multi-faceted appendage, a literally horny half orc-half shag in rut and a princess torn between being a good girl and following her heart. OK, perhaps not her heart, it was much more likely her libido she was listening to. Well when you see that as a cast of characters in a Cari Silverwood book only a fool would not be jumping up and down begging for it, *double entendre intended*.
Part machine, part man, part lost soul. Part spacejunker captain with a mortgage on his dick.
Oh my, this didn’t disappoint. We had both the complicated ‘romance’ between Hoss, Baz and Ember, with all it’s dubious consent, pheromones and sneaky programming. We also had political cyber manoeuvrings and underhand manipulations based on prophesies. This isn’t your usual ‘throw away’ shagged-by-the-alien romance. There are hidden depths and convoluted plot twists that take what could otherwise be an alien porn read, and make it into something so much more.
Part of me would love to spend a little time inside the author’s head, it must be a real Alice-in-Wonderland style world in there, full of curious happenings and strange creatures. The rest of me knows it would be a very dangerous and better to avoid ‘adventure’ – you’d never emerge the same from it. I just love how her characters are somewhat whimsical yet are also incredibly complex. Her world building is second to none and I feel as though I can reach into the book and touch what she describes. OMG I so do NOT mean a certain part of Hoss or Baz’s anatomy either – get your mind out of the gutter.
Have I mentioned yet just how much FUN this book is? Every part of the story is underpinned with wit and humour. The musings of each character not only allow us to understand them but also made me snigger like an adolescent. Particularly at the ‘dirty’ parts of the book. Talking of which, in many ways this was almost ‘tame’ compared to the authors usual work. Though whether a cyborg member that can change colour, grow spikes and split into two separate cocks can be considered tame is up for debate.
That told him the tube had run out of c**tspace. C**tspace. If it wasn’t a real word before, it was now.
There were some really sweet little touches in this book too. Ig was totally adorable and when Hoss purred for Ember, oh my a part of me melted. I didn’t want to finish this book quite simply because I could never have too much of this amazing trio. Its like a kinky version of The Hitchhikers Guide, so very clever in its complexity that masquerades as artlessness. I so need more of this series.
Note: Next time I’m about to be kidnapped, pack essentials first.
What can I say about this book? I really loved it. There wasn’t anything about this book that I didn’t love.
I kept thinking this would make such a great movie. It was easy to visualize the characters and the world that cari Silverwood created. It is a little goofy and silly and not to mention hot. It made me laugh and cheered me up while I was having a bad day..
It has a great cast of characters. Not only the main characters. Who would come up with a human, a cyborg and a half breed orc and shag. There are also unique secondary characters like the cybermonks. And there is Ig. I want one.
So if you want a fun, hot and unique read, then this is the book for you.
Steel: Dark Monster Fantasy #2
What’s a girl to do when stuck on a war ridden planet, when all hope of escape and/or rescue appears to have gone? Have one last blowout and carry out her deepest hidden secret…

One specific part of him…so in the wake of their impending deaths they give in to their lusty feelings…it’s not as if anyone will find out…
Left for dead and rebuilt and saved by the cyber monks of Oomm.. Baz a space junker Captain is like the tin man… except it’s not a brain he is after… he wants a PEEN! and not just any Peen but a SUPER CYBER PEEN with all the new fandangled bells and whistles!
The only way he has of getting one? By way of a vague mission from aforementioned cyber monks and his task… to rescue a princess
Que the awkward rescue and interruption into Ember and Hoss’ post orgazmic bliss…
Following the rescue Ember is torn…by the restrictions of her job, in keeping the data safe, by not acknowledging what happened between her and Hoss, by her concerns and curiosity about Baz and lastly by meeting the cyber monks and visiting their data library. After reading the first in this series nothing was going to stop me diving in to this book.
This book can be read as a stand-alone but book one is fantastic.
The book is a wonderful mix of tongue in cheek humour, action, monster ménage makeout sessions and a wonderful story about accepting and being true to yourself.
Ember was so concerned about how her love life and desires would impact on her job, she found herself not living, no amount of money from her job was making her happy and she didn’t realise that until she allowed herself to recognise what she was feeling for Hoss…. With the aid of Hoss and Baz she truely opened herself up to the idea that she was worthy of more than the life she was living and allowed to have love ( in whatever shape it took ) in her life.
I loved that Baz was so conflicted with his feelings for Ember, his confusion and conflict regarding his emotions for her brilliantly echoed Embers feelings towards Hoss. I loved that out the three of them Hoss was the only one who knew from day one what he wanted. Their triad was fantastic and I loved the interactions between them.. especially between Hoss and Baz, they knew Ember’s indecision and knew her wants but had to wait for her to recognise them.
If human/orc/shag/cyborg porn is not your thing… then consider yourself warned… personally I’m with the cybermonks…where do I subscribe?
I’m loving those series, it’s a fantastic mix of fantasy and sci fi at its best.. where anything and everything goes And the possibilities are endless
Again, I’m pleasantly surprised with this book. I’m usually not a big fan of sci-fi but I have to say that this was good one. I’m excited for what’s next.
When I read Cari Silverwood’s books I often wonder how in the world did she come up with her characters for these fantasy suspense stories of hers. I am not sure I will ever know these things but, what I do know is Cari Silverwood can write! Her books are always entertaining, they can be a little dark or all the way to very dark & disturbing. They are always thought provoking and she likes to push boundaries as much and as often as she can. I guess that is what I love about her books.
Steel is the second book in the Dark Monster Fantasy. Each of these books can be read as a complete Standalone.
If you like dark suspenseful and Hot as Sin books then you need to read this book.
Steel is the story of Baz Rutland a cyborg with a lost soul. Ember is “A Principle Data extraction expert employed by CESS Industries – a princess in lay terms.” And Hoss is Half Orc, half Shag, and a hairy beast, he shaves to blend into the mass of humanity populating the galaxies.
So as far as dark books go this one is on the lighter side of dark. I love Cari Silverwood’s warning. It is oh so true and almost funny. Here it is.
I loved reading Steel and I give it 4.5 stars and as per usual I can’t wait to read her next book.
To me, this story is a captivating, thought provoking, tantalizingly kinky journey into a genre I have only begun to explore thanks to Cari Silverwood.
We have two heroes and one heroine in this crazy, mixed-up compilation of satire, seriousness, fun and sex. First we meet Baz, an angry half cyborg, half human, who is required to rescue a princess in order to complete his bodily reconstruction. Then we are introduced to Ember, a human female, employed as an expert in CESS data extraction. (She qualifies as the princess he needs.) Next, we learn a bit about Hoss, a half Orc, half Shag, assigned as Ember’s bodyguard.
There is action, lots and lots of action, such as battles, sex, rescues, sex, and a journey with lots of sex.
Many reviewers are talking about how funny, sexy, sarcastic, and witty this story is, and they are right. I certainly enjoyed all of that, but for some reason, I also found something a lot deeper hidden inside these characters. When you cut through or eliminate all the machinery, spaceships, technology and whatever else makes up science fiction, this evolves into a really emotional story about a young woman who slowly falls in love with two totally unacceptable, yet should be acceptable men. It is about how they each learn to overcome personal pain and loss. And, while doing this, they discover ways to communicate with one another. They slowly learn to accept and love each other and themselves, along with all their flaws and strengths. Because of their growing love, these three unique individuals find a way to function as a self-sustaining, integral unit. Cari makes me see what they are as being fundamental to this story, yet forget what they are, because labels should not matter.
This may have been written for fun and our enjoyment, yet Cari’s words have taught me much.
Cari Silverwood has once again done some unorthodox world building giving us a quirky nerdy geeky one with cybermonks who have the power to make cyborgs out of men who can be healed from accidents or in this case torture. Meet Baz, one such cyborg but he wants just one more thing – well the reality is he wants one bigger thing. Told: Bring us a princess and we’ll give you what you desire.
While in the spaceship provided for the search, he receives a call for help from a planet under siege and it happens to be from a Principle Data Extractor for CESS Industries – just what he needs – a PrinCESS!
Enter Ember, a human and her bodyguard Hoss, a half Shag half Orc very large male crossbreed who at this moment is looking for a mate and has a king-sized asset to offer. While praying to be saved but thinking they were about to die, size queen Ember and Hoss decide to give in to their lust and wow! Then to make things more interesting while still in the afterglow, help in the name of Baz arrives. Timing is everything.
True to their word the monks reward Baz with a member the size of his dreams that comes with accessories and some interesting embellishments – ooh la la!
While not one of her usual dark stories, Cari has made it a playful and mischievously yet strangely erotic one that made me laugh and giggle and “fanning myself” hot! How can you not love a wild ride with a sexy female falling in love with two huge guys with extremely large parts. Can’t wait for the next one in the series. Received an ARC for an impartial review.
Dark Monster Fantasy, Book 2. Geek girl meets half-breed Orc and metal man…what could possibly go wrong?
“Find a princess,” they said. “We’ll give you what you want,” they said. Where in the fracking universe do you find a princess? After years of searching, Baz Rutland is about to give up when his ship gets a message: “Princess in need of dire extraction. Emergency message for any CESS ships within the system. Please respond.” Said princess, Ember, a data extractor, appears to be the answer to Baz’s prayers (if he actually prayed). But with her comes her huge half-Orc/half-Shag bodyguard, Hoss, and a shipload of attitude. But still…a princess is a princess. Soon it’s destination Oom. But Ember’s far more than she appears. She’s not just a data extractor. She’s the best of the best. And Oom isn’t just any planet. It’s the home of the cybermonks. This is a data extractor’s wettest dream come true. Oh, did I mention Ember’s fondness for big…members? She’s already had a taste of Hoss, as forbidden as that may be, and she’s hungry for more. She has no way of knowing what Baz’s payoff is for delivering her to the cybermonks. When the Xatar appear above Oom, raining fire and destruction on the planet and kidnapping Ember. Hoss and Baz soon realize there’s far more to Oom and the cybermonks than anyone could have imagined. Not all is as it seems. In fact, absolutely nothing is as it seems. Events spin out of control. Hidden agendas and unknown agents appear out of thin air. Can anyone be trusted? Is any of this even real? When the dust settles, just who and what will rise as victors?
WOW! Cari Silverwood’s done it again! In this case, I’m pretty sure the phrase, “go big or go home,” applies. A man reborn as a cyborg with a giant d**k? A half-breed Orc/Shag with a giant d**k? A data extractor princess with a fondness for…(wait for it)…giant d****s? Cybermonks? The Xatar? This book is an incredible cross between Star Wars and Barbarella. It’s hilarious, sexy as hell, and devilishly, devastatingly clever with a dash of delicious darkness thrown in. It’s absolutely irresistible! For me, the very best thing about Steel is Cari Silverwood’s over-the-top, dark sense of humor that grabbed me from the first page. Ms. Silverwood is the queen of erotic comedy (and I mean that as the highest of compliments)! I’ve never read anything as perfectly delightful as Steel and its predecessor, Prey. (Both are standalones but they’re both positively MUST READ books!) I laughed out loud just as much as I shuddered at times. I loved Ember’s foibles and idiosyncrasies. She’s terrified of the moral outrage that might befall her as the result of her actions, yet she outright flaunts the rules despite her fear. She’s a skilled perfectionist who’s so very imperfect. Hoss is simultaneously lovable, sympathetic, and terrifying. Baz? He reminds me of the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz, only it’s not his heart that concerns him! The cybermonks truly defy description. Then there’s Ig! OMG! He’s amazing, and I loved him! (And if you want to know who and/or what Ig and the cybermonks are, you’ll have to read the book!) Cari Silverwood knows exactly how to strike that perfect balance between sexy steaminess, outrageous over-the-top hilarity, and deep, dark deliciousness. Congratulations, Ms. Silverwood! I adored this book! I’d give it ten stars if I could!
A final note. This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language, a small bit of darkness, and sexual scenes. If you don’t enjoy this genre, this may not be the book for you. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and Amazon. Use these resources. DON’T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON’T ENJOY THE BOOK. It’s not fair to the author. She works hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you’ll object to a book’s subject matter before you buy it, you’re doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
“Hey. Cyborg Man. Is this a good day for rescuing princesses?”
So I bloody adored “Steel” like just so much; it was such a mish-mash of carnal, sci-fi delight with a dash of slapstick humour and a big glug of ridiculousness to accompany its also surprisingly emotive trio.
I am such a mega nerd for weird-ass shenanigans and this book had it going on in absolute spades.
Enough to satisfy even the most ardent of fornication outside the species zealots.
And here to quote the cyber-monks themselves we get treated to a big fat dollop of down and dirty Orc/Human/Cyborg porn and is it wrong that whilst also curling my toes with totally salacious delight my heart itself was also doing a pitter patter of pure bliss whenever that big sexy and did I mention big; yep I did; ( brain kinda short-circuiting here folks ) Orc/Shag up and purred for his potential mate.
Not gonna lie here; I’m such a sucker for any throaty deep purr of the feline sort, so totally suggestive and seductive in its purpose and intent.
Cross that with a crabby but amped up Cyborg and I’m in heaven; like a kid in a sweetshop with an overabundance of goodies, that’s me.
“Steel” was a raunchy romp totally worthy of its slapstick label and I mean that as a total compliment here people.
The main protagonist’s of this story here are one; Ember, Human of unknown origin, PRINCESS of CESS Industries.
A Principle Data extractor extraordinaire in fact with a weird invisible friend and a self-assigned quest to discover her past Ancestry.
Two; Hoss A mixed breed of Orc/Shag parentage employed by CESS as Embers guard and protector; a huge sexy beast with a massive penchant for his luscious charge and a very real desire to make her his mate no matter how much their particular union would be frowned upon.
And finally Three Baz; a grumpy disgruntled Cyborg who along with his crew is trawling the dead-space in his junk bucket of a ship; just looking to rescue a Princess for the Cyber-monks in return for an upgrade of the intimate variety.
So that’s the main gist here really and when these three misfits destinies collide its a non-stop race of classic one-liners, ridiculous plotlines and some seriously filthy hook-ups that as well as being pure smut was also so much fun to kick back and just revel in..
It’s almost like a carry on film of the sci-fi steampunk variety and I myself inhaled the cockamamie Narrative like it was oxygen and the more farcical and absurd events played out; the more I devoured like the whole nine yards and more.
So “Steel” is like seriously knicker dripping or dropping fine.
Everything wrong about this also makes it so right.
I had a mega hard-on (If I had one that Is) for Hoss; such a delicious Orc/Shag, I adored his furry ass like a whole bloody lot.
He for me was hands down my favourite thing in this whole Zany pantomime; with Maybe Baz’s Monster mechanical appendage coming in a very close second.
What can I say; I am a female after all and Baz’s cyborg enhancements well let’s just say Anne summers eat your heart out.
Hoss was the one ultimately in charge of this threeway here and for me, that worked you know with me being like his own personal fan club and all.
I was all for the Hoss.
So I think its safe to say from my above noise I really was digging the whole entire she-bang here.
This isn’t really going to be for everyone of course, but if you like something a bit out of the box and way outside the traditional and mainstream then this one is for you.
Maybe take a chance on this, you might even surprise yourself somewhat.
On a side-note, the Orc featured here Hoss is way up on the attractive scale despite his monobrow; and not at all like the minging ORCS from Tolkien; just saying; being The official Spokeswoman for the Hoss fan-club and all; just wanted to put that out there.
Don’t Diss the Hoss he’s a total Orc babe
Oh and while I’m here a warning; HUGE APPENDAGE ALERT!!!
There’s some huge apparatus locked and loaded within these pages; you have been pre-warned.
Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC copy of “Steel (Dark Monster Fantasy, #2)” of which I have reviewed voluntary.

A sexy and stimulating read that blends a bit of “prim and proper” with a dash of “man and machine” topped off with a magnificent sized portion of the “animal” inside
What can I say – I absolutely loved it!!
This is book two in the series and it just gets better
These are fun – out of this universe stories that mix together sarcasm and wit with the sexy dub con that we love and expect from Silverwood
Ember is a prin “CESS” – who, like many that are afraid of judgment and condemnation, keeps hidden her darkest fantasies and desires – until death seems to be imminent. Then all bets are off the table and all desires are going to be fed
Hoss has always admired Ember from afar – his job is to protect her – to make sure her needs are met – and he has just the tool to ensure the job gets done
Baz wants his member upgraded – he was told if he rescued a princess the upgrade would be completed – well it seems his lucky day because a princess is hailing him now and he has no intentions of letting her slip away
This was such a fun and engaging read – loved the action and the plot twist and the “puns” and – yeah -this was definitely an out of this world love story
A dark comedy adventure romance is not something you come across everyday.
Ember and her two grouchy companions find themselves on the planet Oom in order to help Baz gain back a certain body part they withheld from him when they turned him into a cyborg. A strange thing to hold hostage, what on earth (or Oom) could their end game be? Ember, being a brilliant data extractor, sees this as a wonderful opportunity to discover everything she can about the cybermonks, etc. She makes one brilliant move after another between many bouts of sex with her two companions. And maybe she’ll take down the corruption in the universe while she’s at it!
We start off with Ember, and expert data extractor and her last living guard Hoss
stuck in the penthouse of a tower that is being stormed by the evil Xtar squadrons.
Somewhere in space is Baz, a space junker captain that is part cyborg, minus his
manly parts. Baz was promised by the Cybermonks of Omm, that if he brought them a princess, he would get what he desires. It starts right off with a bang, Ember decided as long as she was about to die, she wanted to get a feel for the giant Hoss’s junk. Maybe that should have said Hoss’s giant junk? Anyway, being with an Orc is shunned by society, so Ember is really in deep doo doo should anyone find out. Suddenly a big ship lands on the penthouse just as Hoss and Ember are doing the deed, and Captain Baz walks down the ramp and tells them they have been rescued! Their destination is Omm, where the Cybermonks rule and where Ember really wants to go, she just doesn’t know, it’s exactly where Baz wants to take her as she is a princess and the Cybermonks promised him if he brought them a princess, he would get his new “equipment” with all the special endowments he could ask for. Ember carries some data that the Cybermonks
want, and they have information she wants. If only one hand would wash the other, but that isn’t going to happen in a Cari Silverwood book! Ember feels the Cybermonks have some knowledge she wants but she also doesn’t really trust the sneaky, tricksters. There are a lot of attacks, and Ember gets abducted and her men, Baz and Hoss need to rescue her from the Xatar, while simultaniously battling dangerous animals in the forests, jungles and ruins of past cities. There is also lots of sexy times with the two very well endowed Cyborg and Orc/Shag men Ember is drawn to. The three of them manage to get in some really steaming hot, naughty, twisted, very twisted kinky sex. Baz in particular has a multi- enhanced package that he was dying to test out. I never mentioned Ember’s little invisible
dragon type friend that has been with her since she was a child, that creature has a few abilities that do help out at times through the adventures and dangerous situations the threesome find themselves in. I recommend you read this and see for yourself, it is tongue in cheek at times, scary and confusing at other times but always entertaining. See what happens when you pair up a trio so different from each other, yet such a great combination.
