A witty, passionate Victorian read by New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Tanya Anne Crosby.
Lady Margaret Willingham is a wealthy heiress, who knows what she wants. No husband. No children. No man to tell her what to do, or how to do it. Forced to marry, or lose her inheritance, she defies convention and places an ad in the paper for a commoner husband, fully intending to take … take charge of her life. When the perfect candidate applies, Margaret has no inkling that he’s keeping a life-long promise or that a midnight kiss holds the key to healing her spinster’s heart.

Lady Margaret Willingham is determined to have the last laugh on her father. Years ago he sent away her best friend just because he was from a different class. Now an heiress, she must marry before her birthday, so she will wed a commoner of her own choosing.
Gabriel Smith was sent away from his family, because he got too close to the daughter of his father’s employer. Now years later he has made a success of himself, in no small part due to the man he hated.
A sweet historical romance with lovable characters, and a fair bit of humour.
I wasn’t sure I was going to like this at first, with how almost hateful Maggie sounded, but after I got more into the story, I realized she was a woman on the edge dealing with all life had dealt her in the only way a she could. I loved that she found a way around the stipulations of the will to get a life that she wanted. I was sad that it had taken Gabriel as long as it did to get back to her, but I understood why he did. It turned out into a really enjoyable quick read!
Gabe and Maggie grew up as best friends and playmates. Until That fateful day when Maggie’s father had Gabe sent away because they were from different classes as Maggie was a heiress. Through the years Maggie has never forgotten Gabe and he has always loved her. What a wonderful story. I thoroughly enjoyed this novella. It was fun and witty and made me laugh. I have always enjoyed her books and this one I definitely recommend.
Lady Margaret Willingham has been looking for a husband with no strings attached, she’s a wealthy heiress and according to her late father’s will she needs to marry or loose her inheritance.
Angry at convention and the men who make the rules she decides to marry a commoner. A marriage of convenience and nothing more. No love, no children and no happily ever after. She’s only loved one person, a very long time ago…..Gabe the boy her father forced to leave.
Gabriel never forgot the young girl that made his heart skip a beat and turn his brain into mush, leaving her was for the best, for his family and for him. Days turned into months and months into years, he never really forgot her, she lived as a memory in his heart. Until his father revealed her delima, and he knew he had to help her.
This was expetionally well done, a short read but by no means lacking in any way. I loved Maggie and her will to defy the rules, she had me laughing at certain points, and Gabe, oh my Gabe was absolutely amazing! He was everything she needed, a gentleman, honourable and turned her brain to mush. A truly enjoyable read, I’m never disappointed in anything written by the very talented Tanya Anne Cosby.
I recieved a complimentary copy from the author, this is my honest unbiased opinion.
Enjoyable fun read! Would recommend
