Wonderful, action-packed story that will keep readers wanting more!
This is book two in the Amish Witness Protection but it worked well as a stand-alone. Great word building and suspense with sweet romance that keeps you turning pages. I found the characters believable with relevant situations. I found myself pulled into the story and wanting to help them. Great quick read that leaves you wanting to read more.
I won a copy from a blog. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
AMISH SAFE HOUSE by Debby Giusti is the second book in the Amish Witness Protection series. It is the story of Julia Bradford and her children, Kayla and William, escaping from the city through the witness protection program after her son witnessed some gang activities.
They are placed in the middle of Amish country with former police officer Abraham King on his Amish farm. With their new identities, they are to lay low until William can testify and danger from the Philadores and Delphis gangs passes.
Julia Bradford after escaping a disastrous marriage is determined to be the best single parent she can be. Her main objective is to show her children they are loved and to keep them safe – which sometimes means from themselves. William is a young man fight with feeling rejected by his father and fitting in with the popular crowd. It lands him in with the wrong people where he witnesses a senseless crime at all too young an age. Kayla is a precocious little girl smart way beyond her age, but one that you just can’t help but fall in love with her innocence.
Abraham King raised Amish once turned to a vocation in law enforcement until his job cost him his wife and daughter. It was through the support of a friend and his faith that pulled him back from the depths of despair. He returned to his roots and was happy being a loner on his Amish farm. That is until the friend that had helped him, asked him for a favor by allowing a family under his protection to stay in a house on his property. They figured the safest place to hide the Bradford family was in plain sight – in the Amish community.
Abraham finds that he misses companionship, feels a great desire to keep the family under his wing protected and learns that it’s ok to have feeling again. Julia finds great joy in watching her children bloom on the farm. She also finds a lot of peace in the ways of the Amish and their beliefs. She begins to wonder what life would be if they could stay there and not move on after the danger was over – on the farm and with Abraham.
Can Abraham keep them protected? Or will William’s defiance backfire on him? Is there any hope for Julia and Abraham or will she and her family be moved to another safe house after they are found? Is William the only one in danger? Will Julia get her faith back and find the peace she wants and needs so desperately? Can Abraham dare to chance loving someone again or will he lose them too?
Debby Giusti does an amazing job of telling this story chuck full of emotion while keeping you and edge of your seat several times. It’s very easy to feel as if you are there with them running from the gang members or being shot at as well as feeling the respect and love that William feels for Abraham as a male figure in his life or how Kayla wraps Abraham around her finger while embedding herself in his heart. The budding romance between Julia and Abraham is sweet and you can envision how it will endure. I love the way she addressed so many important subjects within this one story – everything from warring gangs, homeless people, hardships of divorce and single parenthood, difficulties in raising a teen – all without missing a beat in the rhythm of this wonderful story.
AMSIH SAFE HOUSE, although part of series, can definitely be read as a standalone book. I highly recommend it to anyone that loves the Amish genre, a fabulous suspense book or a sweet romance. I will be looking forward to reading more books by this author.
this book tries to explain how the witness protection works, I believe it does a very good job of it. It also shows changes in people and the love a family can have
