Spanning more than two centuries in Ireland, Castle on the Rise unites the legacy of three women who must risk mending their broken places for life, love, and the belief that even through the depths of our pain, a masterpiece of a story can emerge. When Laine Forrester travels overseas to attend her best friend’s vineyard wedding, she expects to find the bride on the brink of a fairy-tale life. … fairy-tale life. But after a series of unforeseen setbacks, it seems the storybook lives they’d imagined are suddenly ripping apart.
With hopes of resurrecting a happy ending, Laine agrees to accompany the newlyweds to the groom’s home in Ireland–never expecting she’d be the one drawn in by its wide-open moors, backroads bordering the Irish Sea, and a mysterious castle that dares to keep its secrets hidden.
From the storied streets of Dublin to the shores of the Emerald Isle, Laine is drawn in to the land and its rich history. The castle ruins whisper stories of Issy–a photojournalist battling through the 1916 Easter Rising, and Maeve–the castle’s lady of legend, fighting for survival through the 1798 rebellion that started it all.

Having read and loved several of Kristy Cambron’s books in the past I was excited to read this one, even more so once I found it was set in Ireland aka one of my very favorite places to read about! I love time-slip novels, but to be honest I was a little nervous at first that I would find it difficult to keep up with the three different time periods, but I needn’t have worried! Kristy wove them all together beautifully and there was never any confusion about which timeline I was reading.
This one gave me all the feels! I was swept away into the world of this book from the first page and hated to leave! I have come to expect a stunning, vivid, heart-touching read from this author and Castle on the Rise was no exception, this book took me on a journey and I loved every second of it! I absolutely loved all three timelines, but I think Issy’s POV from 1916 might be my favorite.
This is definitely one for the keeper shelf, and I anticipate rereading it in the future! Even though it is book two in the series I feel it can absolutely stand alone, I have not read the first book but had no problem following this one. I most definitely recommend Castle on the Rise, this is one that fans of Christian historical and time-slip novels will not want to miss.
(4 Stars!)
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. Which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.
Kristy Cambron brings Ireland alive in Castle on the Rise. She has a great talent for painting vivid scenes and did a wonderful job weaving together three different time periods. I came to care about each of the different main characters and finished reading the book with tears in my eyes.
After reading the first book in this series, The Lost Castle, I was so excited to continue the story with Castle on the Rise! Kristy Cambron takes us through the history and landscapes of Ireland from the eyes of three incredible women. I love the style of the book where I get the stories from the characters in alternating chapters. I would definitely recommend this book (and series) to anyone who loves to travel, learn about history, and read a love story!
I have read every single Kristy Cameron book.
I have shed tears in every one.
I’ve hugged them and reread them and they never seize to amaze me.
So I’m pretty sure I know what I’m saying: this is her best work yet.
Beautiful and superb writing alongside side an impeccable research draws you in to a beautiful country. But what captured me the most was the depth of the author’s respect and compassion for another country’s culture and history, alongside the humility to write about difficult topics such as grief, divorce, and uncertain future.
But oh that last page. Tied with a green ribbon as exhuberant as the Irish mores and cliffs, redemption has the last word, forgiveness gives the sweetest kiss, and hope never seizes to restore.

Ms. Cambron does it again with her latest novel! She writes beautiful, intertwining stories that each come together to make the story whole. This novel examines three different generations. Each story alone is interesting and keeps the reader wanting to know more, but together gives you a bigger picture. There are three different women in each of the stories who are strong and courageous. Each have different backgrounds and problems and each will learn more about themselves throughout the book. There are many lessons to be learned as you read this story and it does not disappoint. I enjoyed the historical aspect of this story as well. I highly recommend this story!!!! You will not be disappointed!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, this is my own opinion.
This was a great book by Kristy Cambron. It is book 2 in the series. The story changes time periods which makes it interesting as you “travel” in time.
Ireland sounds beautiful to me as I read the descriptive writings she has shared. Having never been to this country, I would definitely want to visit now.
The storyline was excellent and I really enjoyed it. Will continue reading books from this author!
