I loved Lindsay Hart’s Captivated by the Beast from the first. While our hero is a tortured hero, never having recovered from the death of his first wife, I never disliked Joe. Charity has not had any easy beginnings in spite of having come from a background of some privilege. She is determined to make her own way in the world without compromising her ideals.
When Joe decides to hire a temporary Muse and to pay an astronomical fee for Charity to be that muse, she feels compelled to take the job and gain the financial freedom she is seeking. In spite of Joe’s moodiness and the creepy old Victorian mansion which has seen better days in which he lives, Charity sticks to her bargain and struggles to help Joe out.
While conflicted about Joe’s need for her, Charity understands the concept of a muse to an artist and desperately wants to help Joe recover.
With the push and pull of unwanted attraction between them, along with Joe’s grief and ties to a past he seems unwilling to move away from, the unlikely pair fight their way through to a happy ending.
While it seems many of today’s popular heroes and/or heroines have ridiculously tragic backstories which they are too scarred to overcome, Captivated by the Beast never felt that way to me. I was truly Captivated by the hero and liked Charity’s willingness to fight for what she feels is important.
This felt like a quick read for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Captivated by the beast is very soulful. It takes you on the path of someone who is grief stricken and gives up hope. Joe slowly starts to come around because of Charity. She has a lot of patience. And Shows a great deal of empathy. By the end i was completely on edge as i wasnt sure what was going to happen next! I absolutely loved the ending.

Charity and Joe were both likeable characters in this fast read. This was a sweet story with lots of emotions as Charity brings Joe back to living after he lost his wife. An HEA. I am voluntarily reviewing an arc I received from Booksprout.

Joe is an artist that is still mourning the loss of his wife and has become a recluse. When people in town learn where Charity is saying they are all for of gossip about Joe. The more they work together the closer they get to each other. One day during a sitting they give in and sleep together however Joe feels guilty and pushes Charity away. Will Charity leave Joe and go back to her life in the city?
This was a great story about a man that finds a second chance at love after a tragedy occurs in his life. The chemistry between Joe and Charity is sensually hot. Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this to any book lover.

I really liked the story as a whole. I was able to feel some of what the protagonists are feeling and can completely emphatize since I’ve experienced some of what both of them have gone through. I couldn’t give 5 stars though due to some errors , missing words and inconsistencies (e.g. Joe has long blond hair in the 1st chapter then it was black in chapter 13, Ginny’s eyes were emerald green in chapter 6 then in chapter 8 they were honey eyes, etc.) that I spotted. Also, I think the title shouldn’t be “Captivated by The Beast” because there’s nothing beastly at all about the male protagonist.

Although I don’t get how the title of this book relates to the story, it is a well-written tale of two people. He is really broken and not dealing with grief very well. She is slightly fractured in comparison. I wasn’t as connected to her as to him. I did enjoy the story and the journey.

A reclusive artist with a tragic past, a model who comes into his life like a ray of sunshine…it is a short and simple story, but a heartwarming one. The characters are fairly simple, but interaction between them are romantic and poignant with a touch of steam. If you want a quick short read with beautiful interaction between two simple characters, this is for you.
If you altered or updated versions of tried and true fairytales, you will love this remake of Beauty And The Beast. Charity is on her way to a month long job for an artist. What she finds is a run down mansion and a man who has lost his way. The two have so much in common and they are worlds apart as well. As Charity’s light begins to shine through Joe begins to come to life again. Can these two souls create a masterpiece that gives them the happiness that each deserves and reluctantly denies themselves.

Not a bad read…he was hurting and she was a bit too perfect, but it all worked out.
Though I would bet money I have read this before under a different name.

This is a very enjoyable romance that has its own twist on the Beauty & The Beast fairytale. Charity and Joe’s story is an entertaining blend of powerful emotions, humor and steam. I liked this book and the characters but the resolution of Joe’s painful past was very quick and pushed the boundaries of realism. With more time to allotted for plausibility’s sake and further character development this could have easily been a five star read.
Charity Dunn wasn’t prepared to see the condition of the sagging old Victorian mansion. Windows were covered with boards, part of the roof was caved in, the once-beautiful wraparound porch sagged, shingles and paint were both badly peeling, and shutters covered many of the windows. This was going to be her home for a month while she was modeling for Joe McAllister who wanted to paint her. When Joe stepped out onto the porch, she saw he was very tall and handsome. He told her the house was old, had no lights, had spiders and mice, and no indoor plumbing! She really needed the money, but his was going to be a very long month.
After all these years, Joe still mourned the death of his wife. He hated the furnishings in the house, but Ginny had loved them so he kept them, now covered with dust, dirt, and cobwebs. But Charity saw the old house as beautiful, and she was filled with compassion for the pain he still carried with him. She gently asked if she could clean up a little, just to make it more comfortable. She had gone to school for graphic design and became a model to stay in touch with art. She understood what it was to be a true artist, and she would be comfortable with whatever it took to work with him. Charity saw everything with an eye for what things used to be and what they could be again – she saw beauty. She saw the yellow rose. And she wondered how he saw her as he painted her.
Painting her the next day seemed to give Joe hope and he asked for Charity’s help in cleaning up the garden. But memories took him away and he mindlessly pulled up thorns and thistles, not realizing the damage he was doing to his hands! When Charity took him inside to help cleanse the wounds, she recognized his pain and guilt and made him see it too. She always seemed to see him so clearly, and he panicked and sent her away. How would he continue on without her around him? He collapsed to the floor and let the tears flow.
This was a beautiful story, well-written and gently bringing the reader along to an understanding of Joe’s pain and the healing that Charity freely offered. I just loved it! The pacing was perfect and the emotions were real. This one goes into my “favorites to be re-read again” pile! Treat yourself to something very special with this book – you’ll be so glad you did!
