P.B. Noble is so ready to become the magical Guardian of the City of Boston¿until she stumbles across the murder-in-process of the current Guardian. Her rescue attempt is a total fail, and puts her face-to-face with the GoD of Evil, a bad guy so nasty that he isn’t even supposed to exist.Guess what? He does. And he’s worse than anyone realizes. And, to top it off, his real target isn’t the … Guardian he just killed. It’s P.B.When P.B. decides not to join the GoD of Evil in his psychotic world peace plan, he puts on the pressure by kidnapping her bestie, torturing an immortal warrior that just might be her first chance at true love, and completely screwing up the opening night of her new magical night club.If P.B. refuses to join him, everything that matters to her will be destroyed. But if she does cave to his demands, then the entire world will be annihilated. It’s a tough call, really, but what’s an overmatched, undertrained interim Guardian to do? Go for the option he didn’t offer, which is to align with a slightly demented werewolf, recruit her all-too-human celebrity ex-boyfriend, and turn her less-than-impressive magical talent into a weapon. Or die. That’s an option too. Unfortunately.

A hilarious book, lots of great dialogue, and all the extra cast of characters are wonderful. “Public Service Dining.” The book had me laughing out loud and turning the pages as fast as I could. Definitely recommend.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
So this is book one in the Noble as Hell series. P.B. Noble is trying to become a Guardian of the city of Boston. Which puts her in the path of a bad guy who wants to take over in his quest for “world peace”. And then leads her into having to make unlikely alliances to not only try to save the day but to save her friends as well.
Ok so the premise of this book is good. There are a lot of quirky parts to it. But I had a really hard time getting into this one. I normally love this author’s books, and while this one isn’t a bad read-the main character honestly just got on my nerves at times. The writing is still great, the storyline definitely has promise, I just really didn’t like the main character. And I really feel like this is a me problem. I am sure that a lot of people will love it. It just wasn’t my cup of tea. Now, that isn’t to say that I won’t read the next one. I will, just because sometimes, I have found, that while I wasn’t crazy about the first book in a series-I loved the rest. So I will definitely be trying the next one, just because I do love this author and I am hoping it may be just this one.
Guardian of Magic is Stephanie Rowe’s newest and zaniest entry into the Noble as Hell universe. P.B.Noble is her main character and you could not imagine a more irreverent character to be Guardian of a city like Boston. That’s right, P.B.Noble (daughter of a disgraced former guardian) who has wanted and trained for this role all of her life is now Guardian of Boston! Only does she really want the role or is she inadequately prepared to meet its challenges? In a hilarious romp through the city P.B. discovers herself and what it takes to be a guardian. I really loved reading this book and think you will too. As the book continues P.B. develops into this complex but funny character that somehow holds everything together. By the end of the story you are rooting for P.B. and her friends against the gOd of evil.
This a great start to this series it’s funny at times and at others your other emotions take you through. The characters are engaging and well developed and the storyline has not only a great theme but it flows smoothly throughout the pages. I am looking forward to reading more.
I received a copy and am voluntary leaving my honest review.
While this isn’t my favorite SR story, it is still a really good read. I enjoyed the idea of the story and the options this one has created for future books of the series. I enjoyed the characters, even those that some others didn’t, because they added another dynamic to the story. I love all kinds of books, but the kind I like the most are those that make some of the characters have flaws. I am not crazy for stories that have characters where no one has flaws, it’s just too unbelieveable. This story didn’t do that. It let the characters be themselves, whether good or bad. They weren’t all flawless clones. I’m looking forward to seeing what the author has in store for the series in the future.
Firstly, awesome story! I highly recommend Stephanie Rowe’s writing. This new series is in the same book universe as her Order of the Blade novels, and I love it for that. I really enjoyed the two main protagonists and all the side characters. Similar to the Order of the Blade books, this book is more serious than some of Stephanie’s other books, however, I still think this is a great new series and very interesting. I cannot say enough good things about this amazing new series. Just do yourself a favor and read it!
This is such a fun book to read.
PB wants to be a guardian, until she comes upon the murder of the current guardian and feels out of her league. I can’t say as I blame her since the killer has taken a major interest in her. Thano, from the Order of the Blades, makes his appearance in this book. His story is one I have wanted to read but he kind of felt like a side character.
There are lots of witty, sarcastic and humorous parts to this story. I definitely want to continue with this series as I think the characters will grow and expand and the evil god pulled a fast one at the end.
Guardian of Magic: a funny urban fantasy novel (Noble as Hell, #1) by Stephanie Rowe is a story that I have loved reading. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I have loved reading and can not wait to read the rest. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
This book was amazing. As always, Stephanie Rowe does not disappoint. Her books will keep your attention. The characters are funny and engaging and the storyline is wicked (in a great way).
Good grief – PB has her work cut out for her to become a Guardian. Between her families history as Guardians, her mother’s failure, and her own enthusiastic but unwarranted assists, she’s pretty much persona non grata! Butt Boston may just need her particular brand of magic before too long!
And a super magical defender can’t take on the bad guys alone – she has a couple of BFF’s with their own magical talents to assist. And then there is Thano – Calydon warrior! He leaps into action with his stately steed.
Being a guardian may have been her dream but now that she’s been dumped into the role…well it’s not all it was cracked up to be but a certain hand accessory says she’s “it”!
There are plenty of twists and turns and more than one hottie hero to the rescue. All the characters have secrets but what is their agenda? How far has the MFGOE involvement gone? Why does Johhny hate her so much? How will she be able to tell friend from foe when her archnemesis can shapeshift!
Highly enjoyable, funny, with a helping handful of hotties -even if they may have their own agendas for assisting PB. Can’t wait for book 2.
What a sarcastically fun, adventure filled read with all kinds of supernatural hijinx. P.B. is minding here own business when a dragon appears in the middle of the street in front of humans. She’s been banned from acting like a Guardian as she’s not one (thanks to her mother aka past Guardian, and her huge mistake), but when nobody shows up to take care of this little “situation” her instincts start screaming. What’s A gal to do??? Should she be a *good* girl and respect the ban, or save everyone around her from being roasted like human marshmallows? Today starts a new journey of discovery for P.B….take the ride and meet the interesting cast of characters/friends she meets along the way. There’s tons of witty banter, sarcasm, adventure and more within these pages to keep one entertained.
I have been reading this author for years, and I’m always happy to pick up another book by her. This is a series starter, and I dived in. First off, the protagonist is a mess, but she’s great! She’s funny, a disaster, loving, caring, and did I already say mess? She is definitely not a perfect protagonist, but in this fun urban fantasy, she proves she will do anything she can to keep her friends and family safe even at her own expense. We aren’t really given much about her magical abilities, but I’m hoping future books will tell us. This was a fun time with some excellent characters. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I LOVED THIS BOOK . I NEEDED THIS BOOK . I was so shocked and happy to see this book come out and man it was all I could want and more. Its a sit on the edge of ur seat kind of book I didnt want to put down . I Love Thanos and He is in this book would have loved to have more of him but Ooh so happy he is here now. GET THE BOOK Read it love it . lol I did
I have loved the works of Stephanie Rowe for many many years. And because I have I’m going to view this book as a momentary glitch in her capabilities. Going through changes in one’s life reflects many places, and I think it was reflected here.
There was a frenetic, babbling, infinitely irritating quality to PB Noble that was off-putting. That made it difficult to like the main character. Having Thano in it didn’t help much because his appearances were few and far between. Perhaps he’ll show up more in the next books in the series. Hopefully PB will calm down in those future books as well.
The storyline was very cool. I liked the whole premise. I’m going to like the series, I just know it. I know it because I have faith that SA Bayne (Stephanie) will calm everyone down in the future books because she will probably be in a quieter frame of mind when she writes them. Include MoFo. He needs calming almost as much as PB.
The idea that there are minor gods locked away in another world just dying to get out, and that there’s a door with keys that can open it, is a blueprint for an amazing series. There could be so many different gods to go with. So many different storylines to build. It’s exciting to think about all the infinite ways this series can go. And I am looking forward to reading about them.
I’m sorry, Stephanie. I truly am a big fan. And I will continue to be a big fan. This, I will just chalk up to be a fluke and I will keep in mind at all times how much I have enjoyed all your works and how much I enjoy your writing style…usually. You still come up with the coolest ideas so I’m not wholly disappointed with RYE. I did feel the various emotions the group underwent throughout the book. I did sit on the edge of my seat at a few points within. And I did enjoy the entire premise.
I give this 3.5 stars because I choose to go past the odd writing style and into the storyline, and that was excellent. Wonderful idea, Stephanie Rowe! I am truly excited for the next one!
This book was fun! I love that Thano got his legs back and was sooooo sad when Apollo left. The book was fun, witty and full of twists! When PB finds herself with the “job” she’s always dreamed of, Sentinel of Boston, she finds that she isn’t as prepared as she thought she was. With Thano’s help, they must stop the MOFO GoD, who by the way is hilarious, from destroying the world. With help from both old and new friends, PB sets out to find out what she’s really made of. Also…. THANO!!! Now I am dying for the next book in the Night Hunter Series!!! With lots of action and fun along the way, this book is a great read!!
If you enjoy quirky heroines and funky characters working to save the world, this book is for you. This book has a very positive and upbeat “you can do it” message that I appreciate unfortunately, I did not care for this book. To me it feels more suited for the young adult audience, which is not a genre I enjoy reading.
Oh man!! What a brilliant urban fantasy book. I am so excited about this series! This first book is so original, full of gritty humour and hilarity, and it was fast-paced and had me right on the edge of my seat. Reminiscent of Jim Butcher’s ‘The Dresden Files’ (but without copying in any way), which is high praise indeed. Five enormous flame-throwing stars.
