Theo Glass used to believe that love was just a fairy tale. Orphaned and disowned by his homophobic step-family, he and his grandma make ends meet as best they can. But when his grandma’s tireless charity work is honoured, Theo makes sure he spends his last pennies to get her to the palace, hosted by none other than the gorgeous Prince James himself. James is sixth in line to the throne of the … throne of the United Kingdom and a disappointment to just about everyone. He never felt at home at school, on the rugby pitch, or even in the Army. Being royalty means he’s been forced to keep a lid on his bisexuality. But when he meets Theo at the honours ceremony, he knows he’s in serious trouble.
Needing to find purpose, James convinces Theo to use his charity event savvy to throw a fundraiser ball in a secluded castle. All James has to do is behave himself around the sassy twink. But soon the chemistry between them is too strong to resist.
Their lives are too different and there’s no chance James can come out as the first Prince of the United Kingdom with a boyfriend. But James knows if he doesn’t show Theo how much he means to him, he’ll lose him forever. Can love conquer all? Or is that something just for fairy tales?
A Right Royal Affair is a steamy, standalone MM romance novel featuring a pack of unruly royal terriers, a romantic ball, feisty swans, a wicked step-father, and a guaranteed HEA with absolutely no cliffhanger.

I loved this book and will definitely be trying more by this author. It was funny, quirky, unfailingly British and spot on. As a Brit myself, I enjoyed the parts that were jokes aimed at ourselves. The characters were well developed, the storyline flowed, the side characters didn’t overwhelm the story and I didn’t see the twist coming. Highly recommended
I was given a free audio copy from the author and the GRR arc team for review.
Unlike the first book that felt like a retelling of a fairytale like the series suggests, this book only had minor breadcrumbs that resembled the fairtale Cinderella (shoes, ths ball, and past history quickly explained). The main plot is less fairytale and more m/m version of Prince Harry. Don’t get me wrong it was a cute story and both the MCs are very charming but I can only give it 3 stars as I’m listening to this in 2021 and I’m sick of hearing about the Royals especially Harry.
5 stars to the narrator though that was brilliant.

Another good fairy tale retelling.
Once again, Kieran Flitton’s performance of this story really made it for me. I love his voice and all of the different voices he does for each character.
I also really enjoyed Helen Juliet’s take on Cinderella. It’s not exactly what I would call a retelling, rather a reimagining and I thought it was great. The dogs in the story were really cute and I loved Theo. James was a little tedious at times but that was probably necessary to the overall storyline.
All-in-all a really great listen!
This book is part of The Fairy Tale Collection audiobook which I received for review. The collection was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
A Right Royal Affair is a fun contemporary twist on the Cinderella story. The story read like a Disney fairy tale, but with steamy sex and delicious drama. I really enjoyed the sweetness and fluff of the story, and there was just enough drama and angst to keep the plot moving. The audiobook was narrated by Kieran Flitton who does a wonderful job bringing the book to life.
I am loving Helen Juliet’s retold fairy tales. Every one of them has been excellent. James and Theo have a brief, unpleasant first encounter and I was impressed that Theo stood up for himself. I was even more impressed when James went to the trouble to track Theo down at home and apologize. Having Theo plan his big charity ball keeps them in close proximity and of course, their attraction is plain to see. I loved how the entire staff helped push these two together. I loved that Theo tries so hard to protect James. Jame’s bravery showed what a wonderful man he was. The ending was the perfect ending for fairy tale lovers.
Highly recommended book and author
Audiobook: excellent narration
Traditional fairy tales always make you smile, this book was no exception. I started the audio just after 4pm and listened straight through till midnight. I was so invested in the characters there was no chance of putting it down. Helen has rewritten a royal romance but with so much warmth and soany ethical stances plus opinions that some will never except. Just wish it wasn’t fantasy and that a royal somewhere would lead the way. But we live in hope. Totally loved this book

Such a sweet fairy-tale for the new age
A beautifully weaved story with ALL the perfect elements that make up a Cinderella story. All so cleverly done! I loved Theo & James!
Helen worked her magic with this story. It’s a modern fairy-tale that addresses REAL world issues while carrying you away to the pure love and innocence of a “rags to riches” fairy-tale. I loved all the unique details Helen included; from Theo’s love of converse to his last name Glass, the evil stepfather (& step brothers), to the unexpected (and totally hated) Royal secretary.
This story was surprisingly real, wonderfully witty and delightfully magical with great characters and cheeky pets. This story is a must-read for the fairy-tale dreamer and romantic at heart! Just lovely!
Kieran Flitton was a new narrator to me but I loved him! Exceptional performance!

The Unlucky Duckling
Theo lives with his Nan and has since he was very young. Theo’s Nan is a pillar in their community always lending a helping hand. The pair haven’t much money of their own, but what they do have they share with those who lack, even more than they do. Because of the bright light, Nan is being recognized for her efforts by the Queen of England. Theo, of course, escorts his favorite girl to the ceremony and it is there his life will change forever.
Prince James is sixth in line to the throne of England, and believe it or not, he loves the gatherings where he gets to meet one on one with those who are making a difference in their country. He is excellent at remembering names and faces, and that has always been a benefit to him at functions like the one he is attending. He has no idea he is about to stare future in the eyes as he finds a gorgeous stranger holding one of his family’s corgies in one hand and a priceless vase in the other.
This was sweet and had a lovely Cinderfella vibe without it being too in your Fairytale face about it. It’s a story where the number six is very unlucky for a man who wants to be a regular Joe…er James. Where a castle is a place a young man from Essex never thought Kylie Monogue worshippers would stay, and a pair of male swans are the best-dressed couple for any occasion. It’s a story of compassion, kindness, and love but also about bigotry, small-mindedness, and fear of change and repercussion.
It’s a gentle back and forth, some miscommunication, and angst, with a very well done HEA.
A New to me Narrator, I quite enjoyed.
Now I just need a pair of those converse and all will be well.

This is my first book by Helen Juliet and I’m looking forward to experiencing more of her work. A Right Royal Affair was a delightful and low angst Cinderfella inspired story. It felt a little slow at first however that gave us plenty of time to get to know James and Theo individually and their potential as a couple. Suspending some belief about royal protocols/security is required, but it’s fiction and I went with it. Mostly sweet, a little spice, and an epilogue so nice ~ this was truly enjoyable.
This was my first time listening to narration by Kieran Flitton and I was completely charmed. He did an excellent job of differentiating between James and Theo as well as giving all the secondary characters unique voices.
I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review
A Right Royal Affair by Helen Juliet is an m/m Cinderella-esque story that captures the reader and brings them into the fairytale land filled with steam, humor and romance. Low on angst and drama, just enough for spice, and high of sweetness and heat. A wonderful lovestory worthy of being recommended and re-read again and again.
The audiobook is narrated by Kieran Flitton and is done very well. The recording is clean and the voicework easy to listen to. Definitely upped the entertainment value of story.
This is one of my favorite books and I loved to read it and re read it as much as I can. The story is a classic fairytale with a MM modern twist and without pretensions showed us how two people met and fell in love overcoming all the intolerance and bigotry to get their HEA. Being a prince and a commoner doesn’t make it any easier but is what dreams are made of. The sweetest fairytale ever! Loved it!
One of my favourite reads of this year. Helen Juliet has crafted an incredible royal romance.
I adored this book (which is 100% how I feel about all of Helen Juliet’s stories!). Theo and James were the perfect Cinderella story, and the book itself made me laugh out loud, smile too widely, and have every sweet, warm-n-fuzzy emotion in existence. It’s British as heck, which is fun and a little foreign feeling in the best way for my American reading sensibilities, and I’ve been recommending this one wherever I can and gifting it to my friends like mad all week. I expect that anyone who wants some real STORY with their M/M romances… who adores happily ever afters… who wants something sweet but that also feels real… will enjoy the heck out of it, just as much as I did.
