** Note: You do need to read this series in order.
How to Break an Undead Heart is by far the best in the Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series to date. I devoured this extraordinary novel in one sitting.
WOW, the title should have been a dead give away, but I wasn’t expecting what happens to happen. The author left me an emotional wreck and I’m still getting tears in my eyes, when I think about what happened.
The story takes place close to where How to Claim an Undead Soul ends. Not much time has passed between books. Grier and company sparkle off the pages. Boaz is out on a confidential assignment, Amelie is working through her house arrest, and Linus is trying to help Grier get knowledge on her necromancy skills.
Their are a few different conflicts introduced in this one. The master is still trying to take Grier under his care, Linus and Grier are trying to understand what Grier can do, and Boaz is being sketchy.
In the last book Boaz said he was all in and it seams like they where finally going to be TOGETHER, but she has some concerns that he’s not as in as he said he was, especially since he’s talking to Amelie all the time and only shows up when Grier is severely hurt. I really liked Boaz and was hoping for the underdog to come out on top, but what Boaz does made me say Goodbye.
As for Linus; I still don’t see him as a lover, but the possibility is open. At this time he’s more a friend and teacher. I liked that we got to see more of Linus and his different masks he wears and his Wrath. The combination is interesting and Linus plays more of a role in this installment. He gets Grier out of the house, shows her a different life, and helps her grow. With what Grier went through she never got to have the life she dreamed and now she learns that she will never be the same Grier and it’s time to let go of many things and move forward.
So much happens in How to Break an Undead Heart. We learning more about Grier, get to meet new creatures, and have our heartbroken. Edwards ripped out my heart at the end. I’m not sure if I’m glad she did it, but I see it needed to be done. Grier needed to let go of so many things. No one likes to let their first love go, but it’s something that happens in life.
I’ll leave you with this. My heart broke for Grier and Woolly, the house, so have tissues ready. I cried the last 15% of this book, but I couldn’t stop; because it’s such an important and impactful moment for everyone involved.
Rated: 5 Stars

In love with this authors writing
I have been swept away in a tidal wave of beauty in the reading of this series and look forward to reading more Edwards. What a brilliant gift she brings. Several authors have swept me away like this and all 3 of them continue to just bring me to binge reading.
This is the third installment in the Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series and you need to read this series in order, or you will be lost.
Grier’s now officially Dame Woolworth and all that the title implies. She’s still working part-time on the boat, but she really doesn’t need to. It’s more of an outlet at this point. Things seem to be going well between her and Boaz, but he’s off on special assignment and he’s not really communicating. Amelie is living inside Wooly with Grier now, but she’s more of a Mopey Missy lately. Considering her circumstances, it’s understandable. But not all’s well with Grier. Between classes with Linus, training with Taz, her part time job, and studying, she doesn’t really have time to unwind. Plus, things are still crazy. There’s vampires and more out to get her, and now her cousin has come around to visit. Part of her mother’s family who disowned Grier’s mother when she became pregnant with Grier.
There’s a lot of action in this story, perfect for those who love a fast-paced novel. I was so mad at the end, I had to find someone to rant to. Nope, not going to be spoiling it for anyone, but you’ll understand my anger on behalf of Grier. I haven’t felt that many emotions towards fictional characters this whole year, and for that reason this title is going on my Top 10 List for reads this year. I truly can’t wait to see what happens next.

After the first book in this series, I thought it had a lot of potential, so I was going to continue on with the series and see where it went. I’m not sure if that was a good decision or bad, depends on your outlook, but I am so ensnared in this series, that I am going to have to finish it before I get any peace.
The third book is full of betrayal, secrets, and danger. We learn more about Grier and Linus, and the vampires have really upped their ante about kidnapping Grier. When Linus and Grier go to Atlanta, Grier is excited to see the university she hoped to one day attend, but of course nothing goes as planned in her life. There are a few new characters, and some of my favorites were back. Grier and Linus’ lives will be on the line more than once, and I’m hoping that Grier will come out stronger from the betrayals and secrets this book reveals. Hang on tight, this series is a fast paced addiction.
This is a really great series! The characters extend beyond the hero and heroine to form a truly unique story.
I haven’t been able to stop reading this series. It’s amazing. Holding me captivated. I can’t wait to see where the next book takes Dame. Exciting unexpected twists and turns.
Again a great read.
Grier is studying with Linus to become a practitioner (hence the title ‘The Beginner’s guide to Necromancy’). Her little familiar, Keet (the undead parakeet) is not charmed by Linus’ familiar (a great horned owl). The interactions between Grier and Linus are sometimes awkward but so sweet. It is very obvious Linus has feelings for Grier and in this book we find Grier is trying to gouge her feelings for the man with many faces.
Quote:
”So what you’re saying is… I really am a freak of nature.”. “No.” He reached across the table and covered my hands with his. “I’m saying you’re a miracle.”
It is becoming very clear that Grier’s powers as a necromancer are special and she is constantly threatened by vampires who want to bring her to the ‘Master’. After an attack at Woolly Grier and Linus travel to Atlanta for research and to visit the University Grier always wanted to see. Atlanta is Linus’ home town and we learn more about his life there and what he does to earn his freedom from his mother, the Grande Dame.
In this book Grier discovers things about her past, is betrayed yet again (and how I felt her pain), but we still don’t know about the night Maud Woolworth died. Grier has closed off her mind for 5 years while imprisoned in Atramentous, her memories are vague. Her nightmares are horrible and we get a little glimpse. The book is told from Grier’s POV and she is not ready yet to confront what happened.
I totally loved this book. It pulled me in and gave me all the feels. I am totally #teamLIER. (2018)
Woo! Can you say “liar”?
The blame game will only take you so far.
I didn’t expect to like Linus as much as I do, but it is hard not to like him.
So many things I loved in this book; again, I’m so glad I kept reading this series. It is awesome.
Another great story in this series. In this one, Grier finally has the man in her life she’s always wanted, Boaz Pritchard. But for some reason things just don’t seem quite right, and he’s not around or calling her like he usually is. After Woolworth house is attacked, Linus proposes a visit to Atlanta to do some research and give her a tour of the famous college there where she has dreamed of attending. Once in Atlanta, Grier is under attack on all sides and longs for the relative safety of home. She’s learning that she can trust Linus and their friendship is growing. The more I learn about Linus, the more I want to see that relationship prosper, he needs a friend, or maybe more. There is a lot of action in this one, some new additions to the group of Grier’s protectors, and some heartbreaking decisions to be made about those close to her. I’m off to read the next book in the series, I can’t wait.
The Master is still after Grier, some estranged family shows up and it all ends with new enemies some you didn’t expect. Linus is awesome and I can’t wait to see what happens with that relationship. The end of the book is heartbreaking and the betrayal cuts deep. I can’t wait to see what happens in How to Dance an Undead Waltz!
This series gets even better with each book that comes out! #teamlinus
In this new and thrilling addition to Ms. Edwards tomes of enchanting words we find out more about Grier’s life, things she didn’t know herself, things that answer a few questions about her power. And along the journey our hearts are ripped out, crushed to a pulp, and replaced. So much heartache, so much love. Can’t wait for the next book!
