I know in my previous review of ‘Burden of Reckoning’ I stated I thought these books in Kathi S. Barton’s series “Aaron’s Kiss” just kept getting better and better. I just finished book five, ‘Enduring Retribution’ and it proved my point. With the addition of new characters, we have, Patrice Skidmore, Lady Skidmore of the Royal House of Vampirism, who is tutoring Mac with how to control his Necromancer powers, her best friend since childhood, Tristan St. James the fifth, Patrice’s oldest friend for almost four hundred years, both of them belonging to the Royal House of Vampirism, Bailey Morrison, a woman of many talents and powers, assassin extraordinaire and owner of Fine Printings, Inc. along with her brother Tyler Dunn, and her protector, a Cynogriffin called Griff. I’ve learned long ago that Fate and an author have wicked senses of humor but sometimes I think they outdo themselves. Such as in this instance: Bailey is on an assignment and she winds up being hurt so badly she’s going to bleed out and die. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, Sara is the one who finds her and immediately gets ahold of Aaron through the link for help. He can’t leave and get to Paris fast enough so he sends Tristan. Mild-mannered Tristan who is anal in his fastidiousness, not only of his person but any area he comes in contact with realizes he’s been called to help his fated mate. Fireworks become the norm with these two as the story unfolds along with another character who believes Sara to be bossy and pushy. LOL Twists and turns abound, new discoveries, new magical beings, an assassin for hire jobs, blackmail, and of course the chemistry between Bailey and Tristan. The intrigue continued to build as I followed the clues throughout the plot. Once again, I’m anxious to start ‘Fated Absolution’, the next book in the series.
This 13 book series is a great read. Author and all her books.
Bailey and Tristan are probably my favorite book so far in the series!
Bailey is a mortal, but she’s not human. In the lab she was created she was given a deadly cocktail which made her into the hired killer she is now. But she doesn’t kill just anyone, only those given the penalty by the Queen of Magik herself. On an assignment of revenge, to kill the man who murdered her brother, she meets Pete who just can’t take no for an answer.
Tristan St. James is a very neat and clean game maker. There is never a time he’s not dressed immaculately in suits, nor is his work space ever messy. But ever since he met Bailey his world has been turned upside down and he’s seeing that not a little chaos in one’s life isn’t so bad.
When Bailey is given an ultimatum to either kill the Alpha, Bradley Wolffe or she will be responsible for the death of the MacManus kids and Aaron’s mate. Will they be able to figure out who is trying to ensure Bailey is killed or will time not be on their side?
