NikkiI’m not a saint. Never claimed to be. I’ve played the game and scored my fair share—both on and off the field. This is why I should have known better than to fall for a hockey player. But I did. I fell fast and hard. Now I’m left with the painful consequences, reminded every day of how reckless I had been by giving him my heart so easily—so willingly. Dalt broke me in the cruelest of ways, … cruelest of ways, and because of him, I’ll never be able to love again.
Dalt
Nikki changed me. She made me want to be a better man. My days playing off the ice were over because she owned every little piece of my heart…until she left, leaving behind a gnawing ache where my heart used to be.
Now she’s back, and it’s painfully clear she hates me, ignoring me, pretending like I’m nobody to her. But that’s just too damn bad. I want answers. I want a goddamn explanation.
And most of all…I want her.

“Cross Drop” by Elizabeth Hartey is a new adult contemporary sports romance that features two college athletes who should be on top of the world. Dalt is a top hockey player and his girl, Nikki, is a soccer star, and they’re inseparable…until they’re not. Their incandescent attraction doesn’t die, but the obstacles that separate them may be too much to overcome unless they learn to truly communicate.
This is the second book in the ‘On the Edge’ series and centers around a charismatic couple who are remarkably compatible in their passions, both on the sports field and in private. I was reminded how intense everything is when you are that age even as I was glad that those times are (far) behind me. Occasionally I wanted to shake some sense into them, especially as Nikki keeps putting off her important revelation, which is a tribute to the author’s ability to create vivid characters.
There are plenty of intense and lusty scenes that evoke the joie de vivre that can characterize college life, as does the angst and mistakes that have to be lived through. I enjoyed getting to know these folks and watching them work their way through their issues, although I admit that I’m much more sympathetic to Dalt. The secondary characters are personable and there are cameos by the couple featured in the first book, and enough of their story is revealed that I would like to learn more. This is a fun and entertaining tale that will appeal to both new adult romance and college sports fans.

4 Star Review Cross Drop (On The Edge Book 2) by Elizabeth Hartey
Cross Drop is a second chance at love story which I enjoyed from Elizabeth Hartey who is a new author to me. I do feel it may have been beneficial for me to have read the previous book in the series as although not about Nikki and Dalt, it certainly laid the groundwork for this story.
Having said that I appreciated that Ms.Hartey re capped in the first few chaptersof Cross Drop the background of the relationship between Nikki and Dalt otherwise I feel I would have been a tad lost reading this book..
Nikki and Dalton were meant to be forever; however they did not count on his father interfering in their relationship. Nikki is trying to move on with her life, reminded daily of the love that is no longer. Dalt was left reeling when Nikki left without explanation, but now that she is back, he wants answers and is bound and determined to get them.
The chemistry between Nikki and Dalt is intense, but is that enough for them to forgive each other and move on together? What will happen when the secret that Nikki hides is revealed?
This was a good book that had some seriously heart melting moments as well as tension and angst. I really liked both Dalt and Nikki and felt that the writing was strong.
I look forward to reading more from Elizabeth Hartey in the future.
—4.5 Stars—
This book was such an exciting, fun, flirty, intriguing read!
This book is about two college athletes, both at the top of their game. Dalt, a hot shot hockey player and Nikki, a soccer star. Both have fallen hard for each other and with their chemistry it’s not difficult to see why. However, after a misunderstanding the relationship is ended on a sour note. Two years later they both cross paths and it’s clear that the attraction is still there. But can they get past the secrets and betrayal and make it work this time?
I really enjoyed reading this book! I experienced so many emotions over the course of just 303 pages! From blushing over those hot and steamy moments; to anger and sadness over the breakup; to excitement and suspense while cheering for them to get back together and so much more! I really felt like I was on the journey with Dalt and Nikki.
I liked the main characters, Dalt and Nikki. They were totally relatable and realistic. I remember college life and college loves. Having that intense connection and it was always all or nothing. We would have fights over the stupidest things and whatever we were fighting about or even our breakup would be like the end of the world; life could not possibly go on. Everything then – especially the little things just seemed like such big deals. Looking back, I feel like I wasted so much time over nothings lol. We were immature, like the main characters, and after the two-year time jump you can definitely see how much the characters grew. I felt the author did a great job conveying the development and improvement in both the main characters that showed how mature and grown-up they’d become over the time gap. They were finally able to communicate and own up to their mistakes.
I loved that this book was a sports romance book! Two of my favorite things in a book! I loved all the sports excerpts which were fun and entertaining. Even if you’re not a hockey or soccer fan, it’s not overwhelming or difficult to follow the sports references.
I enjoyed that this book took place in Maine. The author does a beautiful job describing the lovely picturesque landscape. I’ve never been to Maine, but it’s definitely on my travel bucket list now!
This book is the second book in the On the Edge Book Series. I had not read the first book before reading this book. I did not get lost or confused, so this book can be read as a standalone. However, there are many references to the previous book and the characters seem to overlap. Therefore, since I truly liked this book, I would suggest getting in from the beginning and starting with book one so you don’t miss anything.
All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend this book to all new adult, contemporary, sports romance readers!

Cross Drop is a second chance at romance novel. Dalt is a rick hockey player – Nikki a soccer player from a different social class. Neither care too much about where each other comes from, it doesn’t really matter. They are too busy enjoying each other in ways that neither have enjoyed when dating others prior. Then, out of the blue with no explanation or reason, Nikki disappears. When she reappears over a year later, the passion they had is still there, simmering. Dalt doesn’t understand why she left him without a word and Nikki can’t believe that he made the choices he made. What happened all those months ago destroyed what they had begun building.
The only bad (and I use that term loosely) thing I can say about the book is that just about every aspect of the book was predictable. As the scenes were set up I knew exactly what was going to happen next. But, that didn’t make Cross Drop any less enjoyable for me. I was engaged in the story from the beginning and the author did a great job keeping me interested. I still think about the book now and I finished it over a week ago.
Nikki and Dalt are wonderful characters; flawed but perfect for each other. The chemistry between Nikki and Dalt is electric and sizzles off of the pages. They are drawn to each like a moth to a flame at the beginning of the book and even after Nikki returns. The problem between them is that each remembers the time period when Nikki left a lot different than the other. And when everything comes out? Oh, my. Heart-wrenching revelations rock both of their worlds.
The author did a great job with this new adult contemporary romance. The entire story was written with realism. There are a couple deeply moving and emotional parts that had me sniffling. There was great character development and I was able to connect to both Nikki and Dalt. The world building was done well and I was able to visualize the story in my head.
This book contains a fair amount of sex but it’s not over the top or borderline porn.
I was given a copy of this book to read.
A new kind of sports romance!
This book was heavy on the sports, heavy on the drama and heavy on the steam.
I honestly didn’t think I would like it at first. The beginning was all “look how awesome My girl Nikki is, she’s perfect, can do no wrong, etc.”
But THEN, boom! She’s not his girl anymore! Why? You’ll have to wait to find out. I sure did!
Relationship-suspense aside, I was so sucked in by the story. Though initially the characters seemed a bit shallow, they turned out to be anything but.
I would absolutely read more books by Elizabeth!
(I received a copy of this book in consideration of my honest thoughts)
It was a given I was going to love Cross Drop. Second chance, secrets that keep you on edge, sexy hockey player. The list goes on and on of things I love when it comes to this book. I devoured it in one sitting completely glued to every page! Dalt and Nikki had me in love with them right from the start. From the heart warming sweetness before they were torn apart through the roller coaster of all they went through I was lost to their story.
The relationship they have is the definition of soul mates. Even torn apart by lies and weighed down by secrets the magnetic pull between them never wavers. Despite moments of heartbreaking emotion, their love is so deep and so sweet it outshines every tear. But with their second chance blooming into an even bigger love the secrets hiding are always there keeping you on edge waiting for when they come out. It made for a read that kept me captivated every moment start to finish.
You know an author is doing a great job when you first come across her at book 2 in the series yet you still love the book you are reading, I certainly will be checking out book 1 in the On the Edge Series as well as others by Elizabeth Hartley.
College hockey and College soccer come together in this second chance romance. Nikki and Dalt met and fell in love but Nikki disappeared without a trace for a couple of semesters when she returns will Dalt get the answers he wants and forgive her and will she find it in herself to be honest with the love of her life…..
I loved this story the characters have sizzling chemistry and depth which makes them easy to love, a beautifully written second chance love story with secondary characters that I can’t wait to read more about. If you love hockey and sports romance you should one click now.
What a great books! Nikki and Dalt are made for each other. They have such chemistry. Just when Nikki thinks everything is going right something must go wrong. Dalt has no clue why Nikki up and left him. Time and space hasn’t dulled the attraction they have. Will they be able to get past their past? Will tragedy strike yet again? This was a great read!!!
Elizabeth Hartey scores with CROSS DROP, the second book in the On the Edge Series. College hockey star, Dalton Walker, has loved one girl, Nikki Dixon. He has no idea why she suddenly hates him and left the school. Now two years later, she is back, and he is determined to figure out what happened. This contemporary sport romance primarily takes place at Bernard University in Maine.
After reading book one, CROSS STROKE, I was anxiously awaiting Dalt and Nikki’s story. They obviously had history; I had no idea how much. CROSS DROP is an excellent example of miscommunications and deception. Nikki thinks Dalt broke up with her. Dalt has no idea why Niki left him and disappeared from school. The two were clearly in love with each other. The things that transpired, and the lost time was unfortunate.
I enjoyed the characters. Dalt and Nikki are an adorable couple. What happened between them was horrible. Nikki should have been more trusting of Dalt, but it is understandable why she reacted the way she did. I’m glad she confided in Tracy, who brought a different perspective in the mix. They are a compatible couple. Dalt and Nikki are both hard working. They are excellent athletes. Nikki is captain of the soccer team, and Dalt is expected to be drafted. They were comfortable around one another. They were each other soul mates. They need to work on some issues to trust again; which is easier said than done, with a major secret that was kept. I like that they own up to their mistakes. Dalt is very thoughtful; I love where he takes Nikki on their date. I felt horrible about some of the things that happened with his family.
Elizabeth Hartey does an exceptional job with her writing and plot. I like how the story started out in the past and then fast forwarded to overlap with book one. A number of unexpected things occur throughout the novel. The story flowed well and was easy to read. Be warned it is a hard book to put down. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
