When Emma moves to Astoria, Oregon, she is given two rules:#1 – Don’t cross to “their” side of the street.#2 – Don’t mess with the elites, especially Lexen Darken, top elite and resident bad boy. While she finds this both weird and insulting, Emma has no actual intention of breaking these rules – until her guardians go missing. Now all bets are off. Only a single line separates her side of the … guardians go missing. Now all bets are off. Only a single line separates her side of the street from the elites’, and she’s crossing it.
Captured and held by Lexen and his brothers, she learns the rules are in place for a very good reason. There’s a secret world hidden in this small town which goes far beyond the one she knows and understands.
A world not for humans.

Loved this book!
I gobbled this book up! Lexen Darken is yummy.
Ms. Eve’s voice and writing style are very similar to mine. So if you like my books, you should give this one a try!
I love all of Jaymin’s book, but her newest series has me on the edge of my seat. I adore the originality of it, and the characters seem to reach through the pages and pull at my heartstrings. I can’t wait for more!

Wow, Jaymin has done it again. She’s a fantastic writer. I liked the concept as it’s different than anything I’ve previously read, but like all of Jaymin’s books I was hooked straight away and couldn’t put it down. I’ve read all the Secret Keepers books multiple times and still really like them. I loved how clumsy and athletically challenged Emma is. I loved that even though she was scared she’d do anything for her guardian’s who’d gone missing so she broke the rules crossed to the other side of Daelighter Crescent and followed the Darkens and stumbled into something that she wasn’t ever meant to be a part of for her own protection so the Darkens basically kidnapped her to keep her safe but she assumed that they were going to k*ll her after what she’d seen and all she’d heard. I loved that even though she was scared she still gave Lex sh*t when he was being an complete a*sehole to her which was quite a lot and she fought him and his rules constantly. I loved how that even when Lex’s a*sehole shone through there were moments of complete caring when Emma was having nightmares and holding her while she completely broke down and getting her food which was completely out of character for him showing care to a human. I loved getting to know all the supporting characters and seeing Overworld through Emma’s eyes. Laous the Overlord Major from House of Imperial is a complete d*ckhead and hopefully he gets what’s coming to him soon as Lex definitely owes him for what he’d done to Emma. I’m looking forward to reading what happens next in their fight to stop Laous. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
From the very beginning, this story just had the Twilight vibe and not necessarily in a bad way. Then it took an unexpected supernatural twist which was welcome. This is my first book from Eve, and it sucked me in pretty quickly and I knew I would continue the series by the time I got 2/3 through the book. My one complaint is the humor and snark could have been stronger and better, but maybe I’m just used to other snarky authors.
I’m not one for sci-fi aspects, but I’m happy to say even some of the sci-fi parts are more in the Paranormal Fantasy world than true Sci-Fi. The characters are likable and unique. I was worried it would become a reverse harem, but it blessedly is not. It’s refreshing to see a main character who has pretty major emotional struggles, and Eve does not shy away from that. She does cry the better part of the book for several reasons, but it’s not over the top. By the end, I was definitely hooked and wanted to hear what else will happen in this different and fascinating world.
I do love Jaymin’s writing.
Emma is funny and sassy. I like that though everyone seems to let the elites treat them like crap, Emma doesn’t. Lexen and Emma are adorable together. While at times I wanted the romance to pick up faster, I’m glad it wasn’t rushed.
A great spin on aliens!
Great story. Loved the twist and the world she has created. Made me wanting more.
Jaymin is a new author for me, and I enjoyed her work. Going to get rest of this series. Very good.
This is the first book in the Secret Keeper series and it was amazing! Jaymin has created a unique mystical/fantasy young adult series and I was hooked the minute I started reading. This book is well written, fast paced, action packed and grabs your attention right from the beginning and keeps you in suspense until the very last page. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book of the series!
I’ve read a few different series by this author, and I’ve not been disappointed by the others. I’m actually posting this review after having reread it, because it was such a good book. This author is so good with writing a story that draws you in. It was fast-paced and well-developed, which some authors struggle with. Emma is a brilliant protagonist: slightly broken and grieving, feisty despite her pain (or possibly because of it), sassy, kind, loyal. The Darkens have a great dynamic that balances off of each other, and I love Star. I mean, I like Lexen, because, you know, LI, but I love Star as a peripheral character. I’m really glad that all the books are out now for this reread, so I can just devour them all.
I really enjoyed the characters and the way Jaymin built these worlds. She is creative and her characters are charming. True acceptance and appreciation is what everyone wants. Jaymin makes that happen. I had to read the whole series. This book left me wanting for more and I got it with the rest of the series.
Awesome book and the series is awesome as well! Love the characters.
I Love How This Author Brings Fantasy To Life, 3.5 Stars
Emma lost her parents in a house fire on new years eve 8 months ago. She’s being cared for by family friends whom she adores & although she still struggles with her grief, understandably, she is grateful to them for taking her in and showing her love & patience. Sara & Michael are ‘Supernatural Hunters’ and what they lack in money they make up for in humour, energy & love!!
They are moving to a town called ‘Astoria’. It has suddenly popped up showing just the type of activity they chase & a rental in their price range was available – almost like it was all preordained or something. They have promised Emma they will stay the entire year there so she can start & finish her Senior Year in one school!!
Emma meets some lovely friends, Cara & Ben. Cara is bubbly, chatty & takes her under her wing. Ben is rich but doesn’t Lord it over anyone, he’s gay & his family isn’t dealing with the news well Emma notices that the people that live across the street from her in the ‘Elite’ mansions are kept separate even in school. Something is weird about them, they’re all just too perfect – too rich – too beautiful – too everything, it’s almost unnatural!!!
When Emma’s guardians don’t return from a trip on time she’s extremely worried. Casting fear aside she crosses the street to try & get answers. She knows it’s part of the rules for living on Daelight Crescent to never cross to ‘their side’ of the street but she’s convinced the Elites know something!!! That’s the night Emma properly meets Lexen, Jero, Marsil and Star Darken. Her life, once again, changes forever after that meeting….
This was a good start to this series. I liked all of the characters & look forward to finding out more about the ‘Houses’ in each book. The World Building was fantastic!!

I really like the non-athletic, sarcastic, kind of broken but amazingly strong MC Emma. The Darken boys sound yummy, Lexen, I always love the a**holes for some reason lol, Jero the flirt, Marsil the sweet one and of course the bubbly baby sister Star. The story is well written and flows nicely, also very entertaining. I can’t wait to see what happens throughout the series with each house and the secret keepers.
House of Darken by Jaymin Eve a five-star read that will light up your life. This author has a talent for writing worlds that suck you in, and this one is no exception, would you go to the dark side of the street? Would you be able to ignore the oddness at the school that I cant go into without spoilers. All I will say is whoa never saw that coming. Emma was a great girl, no matter what life threw a her she pulled her boot straps up and her guardians just tried to do what they do best. What I loved most was the spark that Emma had, she didn’t let no body get one up on her even if they were larger than her, hot as anything, growly and grumpy to boot. I know if I had a Lexen in my life I would follow him to the other side of the street. Book two cant come quickly enough, get writing Jaymin Eve as we need more of your amazing writing in our lives.
What an amazing, unique, and different story. I loved the refreshing take on a supernatural/paranormal read. I loved the new world that is explored in this story and I loved watching the characters develop. It us a YA romance, so no detail or graphic romance. There were plenty of derails and new experiences for any reader. Looking forward to more in the future. A+
