This debut historical romance from Eve Pendle was a gripping, satisfying book. Grace, the heroine, and Everrett, the hero, are ideally matched and I enjoyed cheering for their HEA. Ms. Pendle’s knowledge of the era, her lovely prose, and deep character development made Six Weeks With A Lord a memorable read!
Amazing 5 Stars for Six Weeks with a Lord by Eve Pendle. This was my first book to read of Ms. Pendle’s and I must say I was thoroughly impressed and I now have a new favorite author to follow. This was such a sweet, romantic and yes, passionate tale. I immediately fell in love with Grace and her love she has for her brother. She’s got quite the trials ahead of her and in order to help save her brother from a horrible, despicable, abusive guardian she must marry a member of the Aristocracy and fast. What will she do? Well, luck lands upon her as Evertt, the Earl of Westerbury offers her an opportunity to not only get her and her brother out of their current situation but will also aid him as he’s now destitute and running out of money fast.
She refuses him as she feels she does not belong in his world, she’s of common roots and doesn’t feel worthy of him or his class. However, his love for her overflows and it is that love that soon convinces her that she does belong, if not to his class, but to him. She soon finds her heart being greatly drawn and melted. Will Lord Westerbury capture Eve and make her his bride? Or will Grace lose her heart and her brother as well?
Grace Alnott returns from finishing school to learn that her father is dead and has left her nothing but her dowry, a dowry she will only get upon her marriage to a peer. Her father named Lord Rayner as guardian to her young brother and expects Grace to marry him.
Grace despises Lord Rayner, he is an awful man and she plans to petition the Chancery court for guardianship of her brother Henry. But to do that, she needs money. She makes it known that she is looking for a marriage of convenience and is willing to split her dowry with her new husband.
Everett Hetheringon, the Earl of Westbury needs a rich bride. His father and older brother both neglected the estate and left behind huge debts, when his younger brother tells him of Grace with her dowry of 50,000 pounds, it seems like the answer to his prayers. He offers for Grace and learns that he will only get half of the dowry and she doesn’t plan to live with him. They make a bargain – she will live with him for six weeks and he will not take his “husbandly rights” – he agrees but he is not completely honest with her – he plans to seduce her into staying and claiming her entire dowry to pay off his brother’s debt.
They marry and return to his estate, she doesn’t trust men and tries to keep Everett at arms length, she hasn’t told him what she plans to do with her half of the dowry instead she told him that she wants to be an independent woman and travel. But over the course of the first few weeks, they form a friendship and she tells him about her brother and Lord Rayner. He offers to help her with her problem, but still doesn’t disclose his plan to keep her entire dowry. He woos her with kindness and kisses.
Grace begins to fall in love with him and thinks that he may be a man she can trust with her heart, and after a visit from Lord Rayner, she is sure of it. She decides to wait until the six weeks is up to tell him of her feelings, but lets him consummate the marriage.
The morning after the six weeks is up, she is excited and in love, she wants to tell him and is just waiting for the perfect moment. But everything goes terribly wrong and Grace is heartbroken. Everett tries to explain and swears that his love for her is true, but he needs the money to pay the debt and thinks that is more important than getting guardianship of Henry. Grace decides to return to London and Everett doesn’t stop her. But a visit from his mother makes him realize what he has given up and what he has to do to win back Grace. But is it too late?
This was a well written book that moves along at a steady pace, with likable characters, steamy love scenes, a nasty villain, interesting secondary characters and a true chemistry between Grace and Everett. I really enjoyed the book and would happily recommend!
Six Weeks with a Lord by Eve Pendle is the story of Grace Alnott and Everett Hetherington, Earl of Westbury.

Loved their story!
Six Weeks with a Lord by Eve Pendle
Grace Alnott’s father has stipulated she must marry a peer to receive her inheritance so her idea is to find a poor man with a title to marry her but he will have to abide by her terms. Everett Hetherington, Earl of Westbury was in the military when his father and later his brother, the heir, died. He is back from war and destitute thus willing to engage in a marriage of convenience… He wants to save his estate and she wants to get her money in hopes of freeing her young brother from the man that is currently his guardian. Grace and Everett do marry but they keep secrets from one another that later come out and create problems.
I enjoyed this book but wished that Grace and Everett had been honest from the beginning. They were attracted to one another but both so guarded that it was difficult for them to really connect on all levels. I wanted to sit the two of them down and have them talk openly but that just didn’t seem to happen. I wanted to know a bit more about some of the other characters in the book: Everett’s brother George, Grace’s friends Caroline and Maurice, Lord Rayner and even Grace’s parents. I would also have liked to know how the issue with the cattle ended and perhaps whether or not Everett ended up with an heir.
NOTE: I did look up Rinderpest, the disease that was attacking the cattle on Everett’s estate. It was lethal and continued to plague animals for over a decade after this story took place even into the early 21st century.
Did I enjoy the book? Yes
Would I read another book by this author? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing-Amara for the ARC – This is my honest review.
3-4 Stars
I loved this story. There were likeable features in both of the main characters. Grace knew what she wanted and was quite determined in her words and actions. Everett, was caring and strong, although he did have his secrets. I liked the fact that he encouraged Grace to adopt interests in which she excelled. They both cared for their living siblings. This was an engaging read. It also highlights the fact that women were, increasingly, working outside of the home.
I will be looking for more books by this author. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I enjoyed the characters and the romance.
Grace finds herself in a precarious situation since her father’s death. To obtain her dowry and to fight for custody of her young brother, Grace marries Everett Hetherington, the Earl of Westbury. Everett needs money to help his people and to pay his deceased brother’s debts and marries Grace with the agreement that they will split her dowry. They both enter this marriage of convenience with every intention of ending it after an appropriate amount of time, but Everett quickly realizes that his feelings for Grace are stronger than he ever expected. Can he convince her to stay after their contracted six weeks?
I loved the characters and the love story in this historical romance. Grace and Everett complement each other well, and, though they are from different backgrounds, they have so much in common. Both have been maltreated by their family, both still struggle because of the actions of others, and both hesitate to show vulnerability.
Grace doesn’t trust men, justifiably so. Her father and the man she was supposed to marry deceived and manipulated her, and Grace finds it difficult to put her trust in the aristocracy. She also sees the inequities of her world, especially since she is a woman. Everett is a strong and determined man used to being in charge. I love that he sees Grace as his equal and values her opinion.
The romance between Grace and Everett is swoon-tastic! They resist their feelings initially, but their chemistry is undeniable. Grace doesn’t give in to her feelings as quickly as Everett, and it is lovely to see Everett try to convince Grace that his feelings are true. I love how patient he is with Grace, doing everything he can to woo her, even though it seems like the odds are against him.
I also like that both Grace and Everett have strong and selfless reasons for needing money. Grace will do whatever it takes to rescue her young brother from the clutches of an abusive and reprehensible man, the man she was supposed to marry. Everett wants to help the farmers who are suffering because of a wide-spread animal sickness, as well as debts accrued by his now-deceased family. Grace and Everett’s desires are noble, even though they aren’t entirely truthful with each other.
Six Weeks with a Lord is a wonderful historical romance with great characters and a swoon-worthy love story. This is a captivating story that I very much enjoyed, and I can’t wait to read more books by Eve Pendle! Thanks so much to NetGalley, Entangled: Amara, and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Grace Alnott needs to marry a peer to get her hands on her dowry and get custody of her little brother. Everett inherited a title, a rundown estate, his dead brother’s gambling debt and is desparate for money to find someway to stop disease from spreading through his tenants’ cattle. He needs an heiress with a lot of money. The rumor is an heiress attending the ball has fifty thousand pounds. Grace and Everett meet and negotiate on the terms of their marriage. Everett has six weeks to change her mind about their marriage of convenience, but what he hasn’t told Grace is a lie of omission. Big mistake Everett! A very gripping emotional book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story of a marriage of convenience between Everett and Grace. It was articulately written. It’s engrossing that got me hooked from the start. A must read for a historical-romance buff reader.
This was the first book I had read from this author and I was not disappointed in the least. The hero and heroine are both in dire circumstances, and they strike a bargain to help each other out. A sham marriage better known as a marriage of convenience which will only be for a short period of time. But can a sham marriage lead to something more? Can obstacles against them be overcome?
Read this very well-written story and find out the answers to these questions. The characters are wonderful. The story is enthralling. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I admit that towards the end I was brought to tears. Were they happy tears? I will not say, but you will not regret reading this book. It was wonderful! I’ll be reading more from this author in the future.
Great characters, lots of chemistry, a layered storyline
This is my first book by this author but I was intrigued by the blurb in part because fake relationships are among my favorite storylines.
I liked the similarities in Grace and Everett’s situations, both forced to desperate actions because of circumstances outside of their control. I loved that Grace was intelligent and knowledgeable, and desperate to do the right thing by her brother, and I ADORED how dedicated Everett was to his duty and the people he was responding for, whether that was the men under his command when he was in the military or the farmers on his lands. There was a nice chemistry between the two of them, their relationship (as to be expected with this kind of storyline) is a slow burn, but once ignited, very hot indeed.
I’m a little bit on the fence about the plot here. The secret keeping (a plot device I have a personal dislike for) and Everett’s plan to get the rest of the money he needed had me cringing. And yes, I know the blurb mentioned Everett’s secret, but I was thinking something more along the lines of PTSD, as I could easily see wanting to keep something like that to himself. But…even though I was cringing a bit, I was also on the edge of my seat, reading as fast as I could while I waited for everything to come tumbling down.
Great characters with lots of chemistry plus a layered storyline that had me waiting with baited breath all made for an entertaining read. I’ll be keeping my eyes open for more books from this author. 4 stars

A marriage of convenience, emotional, secrets, suspense, poignant and witty, makes for a page turning story. Grace Arnott and Everett Hetherington, Earl of Westbury make an emotional, engaging and believable couple. Sparks fly and love blossoms What a beautiful story! Marriage of convenience is my catnip and I loved this one. Slow-burn realistic building of affection between Grace and Everett as they work their way through six weeks and three lies.
A marriage of convenience story between Grace and Everett. I liked the slow simmering build up of feelings between these two and the witty banter that they shared. With a touch of drama and good emotional depth , this is an enjoyable read. I am posting a totally honest, voluntary review.
This story captures all the best of historical romance. The hero and heroine who by chance find each other and enter into a marriage of convenience that will satisfy their immediate needs. With “I have to marry a lord” being the first line in the story said by Grace Arnott, I knew this was going to be intriguing. But it was infinitely so much more. Grace’s father had been a successful merchant that had recently passed away and had left in his will that she must marry a peer in order to obtain her inheritance and control of her younger brother Henry. Henry had been put in the guardianship of a despicable lord who wanted Grace for himself. Desperate, the word is circulated so that she might find that man quickly. Everett Hetherington, the Earl of Westbury is forced to look for a rich match to help him get out of financial trouble due to the mess his father and older brother had left before their deaths. Both attending a ball, Grace is the first person he sees and the stage is set. But Grace has many stipulations regarding their marriage of convenience. She will give Everett six weeks living at his estate and he is determined to win her over to be a “real” wife. Of course Grace is very jaded against aristocrats due to being looked down upon for so long as merchant class.
Sound simple? Well it is anything but. This story had a little of it all. Secrets, suspense and such strong emotions that will pull at your heart. There is a lot at stake for Everett to convince Grace to stay as a real wife, but most of all the love he has begun to feel for her. Can the two truly find love and can Grace save her brother from his appointed guardian?
Prepare to not be able to put this story down as you turn the first page. I cannot wait for more from this author and know you will feel the same!!

A well written engrossing read it was hard to believe this is a debut novel as it was so accomplished.
The characters are very well developed & are very likeable. The pace of the story flows effortlessly & kept me absorbed all the way through. There were misconceptions, misunderstandings & secrets which all mae this a brilliant first novel. I look forward to more from the author
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Miss Grace Alnott has been put in a very uncomfortable position by her fathers Will. He has placed her little brother and his very large inheritance in the hands of his friend Lord Rayner. The idea was to force her to marry the man. Her dowry will only be released if she marries a Lord. She needs to find one that will agree to her terms.
Everett Hetherington, the new Earl of Westbury is in desperate need of a lot of money. His brother gambled away the last of the estate’s money, and now disease is devastating his farmer’s herds. A wealthy bride is a necessity.
A simple agreement to help both partners get what they want should work, but only when they are honest about it.
An emotional, sexy and at times complicated story with wonderful characters. They are both good people with difficult decisions to make.
It is very easy to be drawn into their lives, and be thankful for the women who worked so hard for their rights.
I loved it.
Seducing a Wife.
A story with an interesting premise; a marriage of convenience, in name only, in exchange for a peer receiving half of his wife’s dowry. I really liked Grace, who was a strong woman who came up with a risky plan in order to rescue and be reunited with her four year old brother. Everett, a typically arrogant man, lies to her by omission and thinks to get his hands on all of her dowry by seducing her into making the marriage permanent but eventually comes through for her.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
