The genre for this novel is women’s fiction, and it’s a thought provoking, real, and full of raw emotion story. Four best friends have a tight bond and relationship that spans twenty years, but tragedy strikes and one friend remains alive. Perfect Peyton Brooks, as her jerk of a husband, Jerry, (although I’d like to call him something else) calls her, is devastated. With her marriage completely dead and her children in college, somehow, she must go on without her friends and build a life for herself. Feeling guilty and responsible, she spirals downward. We all know how that feels and what one endures when grieving. It’s not pretty, you feel like you’re alone and there are days where you’re paralyzed and can’t get out of bed. Peyton knows she needs help after not being able to function, and she’s recommended to The To-Hell-And-Back Club. The women in this Club all have something in their lives that has brought them to it. No one is perfect, but through their camaraderie, strength, support of each other and just being there for one another, this group helps and heals.
The four besties buried time capsules twenty years ago. All these years later, Peyton digs them up and learns their secrets, and now it’s also time to face her own. You may think you know everything about your bestie, but sometimes in life one might not be able to share their inner-most pain or face something that’s too hurtful. You may think you know them, but you really don’t. Peyton’s own secret blows up in her face, and all those “ifs” came crashing down on her opening her up to realizing she “always tried to do everything right and ended up doing quite a few things wrong.” We all make mistakes. No one is perfect. Maybe we all need a To Hell-And-Back-Club in our lives just to keep ourselves in check. It’s the women in the Hell Club and time that help Peyton save her life.
I don’t have enough wonderful things to say about this novel. This is a beautiful story, and Jill Hannah Anderson creates characters that every single one of us have in our own lives. Everyone is very relatable and real. Wherever the Club goes to get away and just have fun, I wanted to join them. Yes, there’s a lot of heartbreak and pain, but there’s so much good, fun, love, and support in this novel. This will be another book when someone asks me, what’s a good book you’ve read and recommend?
I must thank Jill Hannah Anderson for winning a copy of this book from her, and all the comments are purely my own.
I loved this group – The To-Hell-And-Back Club. I think we all should have a group to provide support and to do fun things with. Some may call that a book club too.
I thoroughly enjoyed “The to Hell and Back Club” BY Jill Hannah Anderson. I was hooked from the first chapter.
It is a story of love, heartbreak and friendship. This book will make you laugh and my you cry. There were great characters that you could relate to easily, it was well written along with some surprises. It doesn’t hurt that this book takes place in my home state of Minnesota. This was a very inspiring and well written story. I did not want to put it down. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Your long time friends are people who shape you as a person, help you through the difficult times in your life, people you want with you always. In Jill Hannah Anderson’s book “The To-Hell-And-Back Club” first in the series, a tragedy make one woman face life without those friends she thought she’d have forever.
How can you even try to get out of bed when your world has been altered beyond belief? The weight of tremendous loss nearly crushes the main character in Anderson’s heart wrenching story. Her world, friends, family all change beyond belief, some changes are for the worse but can some lift her up and out of her nightmare? Those whom she finds via paths presented to her become a life line.
My heart was wrenched through scenes that made me want to grab those I love and hold them tight. Then I was brought back up skillfully by the story writers penned words to be wowed! Anderson does a masterful job relating her story. It is a real journey for the characters and the reader!
Obtaining a copy of this book is an action anyone will be pleased with who love a great emotionally charged tale!
I really enjoyed This book. Laced with sadness but also healing and renewal. How I wish I had a To Hell and Back Club. The bonds formed are what every woman needs when they’ve had some tragic life experiences. Beautifully written with unforgettable stories and characters.
Jill Hannah Anderson’s THE TO-HELL-AND-BACK CLUB is a emotional and compassionate story of friendship, love, loss and healing. The story focuses on Peyton, an empty-nester whose long-time marriage is failing and who is looking to move on with her life. When her three best friends are killed in a tragic accident, Peyton loses her entire support network in one moment. The rest of the book follows her journey as she finds the strength to let go of her guilt and regret and try to find happiness again in her life. She is introduced to the To-Hell-And-Back Club, a group of women who have all endured difficult challenges and tragedies themselves and have bonded together to support and uplift each other during times of crisis. Through these relationships, Peyton begins to move through her grief and embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. As part of this process, she learns a lot about the friends she lost and about herself. The characters are believable and relatable. Jill’s writing is fast-paced and witty and the book definitely held my interest. This would be a great book club read, with lots of points for discussion.
This novel was emotional and inspirational! I enjoyed the friendships between the women the most. Peyton’s children are off at college and her marriage feels hopeless. Then her three closest friends are in a car crash and don’t survive. How can Peyton survive this emotional loss? After some time, Peyton finds out about a women’s club called To-Hell-And-Back-Club. These women have their own stories, losses, and painful memories. They provide friendship and emotional support to each other to get through their challenges. Author Jill Hannah Anderson shows us real life throughout her novel, sprinkled with moments of joy and happiness. The story is about family and friendships. The characters deal with their own grief, loss, and secrets as they move forward.
This book resonated with me on so many levels, and I’m thrilled I already purchased the second book in this series, Crazy Little Town Called Love (how can you not fall in love with that book title?)
The To Hell And Back Club is the first book I’ve read by this author – it won’t be the last.
Have you ever been forced to start over after a crisis of mammoth proportions crashed into your life and left you standing alone? What would you have given for a group with the apt name ‘The To Hell And Back Club’ to lend you an ear, a heart? Women who’ve been through their own hell but still have enough heart to help you through yours.
Beautifully written, you feel Peyton’s loss as her entire world comes crashing down. You’ve been where she has – the circumstances might be different, but you know the fear she feels. Watch as she grows stronger with the help of her new-found friends, and then watch as she is forced to face a threat to everything she loves and might lose. Again.
Read this book and understand no one needs to be alone.
Create your own club.
