Who knew a conman could turn into a prince?I might be a newfound prince, but that doesn’t mean I’m ready to say goodbye to my days of freedom. I certainly don’t want a roommate. When my brother, the king, asked me to babysit a diplomat’s daughter, I didn’t know I’d end up with the roommate from hell. She’s nosy, and a pain in my ass and refuses to see my charm. She’s also sexy and smells incredible … to see my charm. She’s also sexy and smells incredible and I can’t get her out of my damn head.
Not to mention she’s funny and sweet with a mouthy streak that makes her my kind of girl.
I just thought I’d mix a little business with pleasure…I didn’t plan to lose control of my heart.
But what I really didn’t plan on…my past as a conman ruining my life as a prince.
Royal Bastard is book one of the Royals Undone duet, set in the same world as Cheeky Royal and Cheeky King, however you do not need to read the Royals Undercover duet to swoon over this naughty new royal.

Nana Malone does it again with Royal Bastard! New adventures await with a whole new royal this time!
Royal Bastard follows the story of Lucas, the long-lost prince of the Winston Isles. We first met Lucas in the Royals Undercover Duet. And although you don’t need to read the previous books to read Lucas’ story, I highly recommend you do so ‘cause they are fantastic!
Lucas is arrogant, drop-dead sexy, and oozes charm and irresistibility that no woman can resist. That’s until he meets Bryna. Set out to do what SHE wants, regardless of her overbearing and controlling parents, Bryna is no fool when it comes to the gorgeous and funny “friend of the king” Lucas. But when her living arrangements become dire, and with her parents taking drastic actions to control her once again, Bryna has no choice but to rely on Lucas and his offer to help.
But as concerning circumstances arise, and the more time they spend together, Bryna realizes Lucas is not the man she originally thought. And as Lucas strives to become the man he wants to be, it’s his past and conman ways that begin to pull him back into the life he thought he left behind.
Wow…all I can say is WOW! This story, these characters, everything about it was incredible! I thought I pledged my heart to Sebastian, but I may have acted swiftly and without thought to his younger brother, Lucas. Because now?…now I’m breaking that vow and turning my heart and soul over to Lucas, for him to do what he please. I didn’t stand a chance when it came to him, and I dare YOU to deny his power to charm and seduce. His bad-boy-turned-good persona was intoxicating, and I couldn’t help but root for him throughout the entire story. And when it came to Bryna, well she was a breath of fresh air in the heroine department. Strong, independent, with a realistic approach to life, she was the ultimate bad-ass woman who didn’t take crap from anyone. Especially Lucas. These two were dynamite and their chemistry can be felt from the start. It’s the slow burn of passion, intrigue, and emotions that truly wreaks havoc on the reader’s head and heart.
And that ending?….let’s just say Lucas and Bryna’s story does not end here. And I CANNOT wait for the next book, to find out the truth behind the unexpected revelations exposed, and to see what will happen to the new relationship formed between these two diverse characters.
The author has my unconditional and unwavering LOVE for this book! Lucas will charm you, seduce you, and make you fall head-over-heels in love with him. Trust me, it’ll happen.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. I should have known – as it is a Duet – that there’s going to be a Cliffanger… I should have known, nö I have to wait for ages to read on… I just love Nana’s writing style. The story is amazing, the characters are strong, the drama is kept to a minimum and the dialogues are just hilarious. And you know what’s the best part – re-meeting the guys from Blake Security! Can’t wait for the final book.
Wow! What a suspenseful read! I felt the tension between the characters and couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next! This is definitely an awesome Royal read!
Ummm, Lucas Newsome is your local con man turned prince. He is trying his best to take on the role as a prince but old habits die hard and his habits have been bred and cultivated practically since birth.
While attending the wedding of King Sebastian, he runs into Lady Bryna who is in a very compromising position. They have words and a possible instant connection.
This book stays true. It will definitely have readers hot and bothered. The plot twists are blazing around every corner. Just as soon as you think you have a handle on the plot, you get thrown for a loop.
This is still a love story at the heart with some steamy looks and innuendo. I love Lucas almost as much as I love Sebastian. Bryna made me love her also. We have a lot of stuff to figure so I need book 2 pronto.
If it’s one thing Nana Malone knows how to do, is twist a story so tight you can’t help but get swept away. She delivers a happy ever after and you think everything will be great in the world, but then the rug gets swept out from under you. This story follows after Penny and Sebastian’s, but can still be read as a standalone if you haven’t. It’s a bit of a wild and bumpy ride, and in looking forward to the stunning conclusion of this story.
Please note that I did receive an ARC of this book, and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I absolutely loved this book. The main characters, Lucas who is half brother to King Sebastian, sharing the same father, and Bryna who is supposed to watch out for her in New York but not fall in love with her. Prior to finding out he was a prince, he has a disgusting step father, a crook, and a mother who just goes along with his cons. Lucas has vowed to extract himself from Tony, his stepfather but he just shows up like a bad penny knowing what is going on in Luca’s life. In any event, Lucas and Bryna finally at the end of this book are involved. I do not want to go any further with my review because I would be giving away a major spoiler. So just get the book because it is so entertaining, keeps you on your toes throughput the book and the major cliffhanger is wild. Can’t wait for book two of this duet to be released
Oh. My. God.
What. Just. Happened.
When I started reading this I had no idea I’d be left speechless because wow, just wow.
When I came across this book and read what it was about I knew it would be the kind of book I would love. Royals and Bastard children, yes please. I love me a good scandal.
Bryna, she was a total badass character, definitely one of my favourite females I’ve ever come across. She’s stubborn, fierce and isn’t afraid to say what’s on her mind and it’s quite refreshing, especially when she’s opening that no filter mouth of hers, she’s a hoot.
Lucas, oh Lucas. He’s Charming, handsome, sexy and he damn well knows it but there’s more to him than meets the eye. His past slowly unravels in this book and your heart can’t help but break for him because mines did, several times. He’s the kind of guy that wants a better life for himself and will do anything to make it happen. He’s a brilliant character.
The storyline is quite sad to read at times. It’s full of sadness and heartbreak but then equalled our with happiness and laughter. The banter between Bryna and Lucas is fun to read and you just can’t help but smile.
I absolutely enjoyed reading Royal Bastard but that ending, WHAT THE HECK. I got my hopes set high just for them to be stamped on, damn it.
You know that feeling you get when you read a great book and your insides are fluttering because you’re insanely happy and eager to see what’s going to happen next? Yeah well that was me all the way through this book until the ending rolled around, now I’m sad I have no more left lol. I’m itching for the next book already, it can’t come quick enough omg.
This is the first book I’ve read from Nana Malone and I’m quite happy to say I’m glad it was. It was beautiful, refreshing, heartbreaking and sad but it was the perfect combination for the perfect book.
I gave this book five stars because it was awesome. Bryna and Lucas were perfect for each other. Their first meeting was priceless. Bryna’s parents should feel ashamed for trying to put her in an awful situation. My mind is truly blown from what Lucas Mom said. I can’t wait for the next book. Great job as always Nana!
Sexy, Flirty & Sexy! Lucas & Bryna are going to keep you on your toes! More please! Elizabeth @ White Hot Reads
Ok… This cliffy is a doozie! I enjoyed Lucas’s story immensely and I loved the entire off limits friendships with Bryna that had turned red hot!
From the moment they met they were full of chemistry, banter and sexual tension!
More Please!!!!!
Once again Nana Malone has spun a doozy of a story with amazingly real characters. We met Lucas in Cheeky Royal As King Sebastian’s long lost brother. Now Lucas is back in NY with Royal Guards and a task to entertain Bryna. Bryna is a sassy girl who knows what she wants and eventually she sets her sights on Lucas. Rooming together has sparks and frustration at an all time high. When someone from Lucas’s past threatens his future he needs to make a stand. Sassy, sweet, hot!!!
“Getting that close to her was like asking for trouble, because I wanted more than to touch her. I wanted her to touch me and my soul”
Okay this review is really hard for me, in my opinion I felt I was reading Cheeky Prince and Cheeky King all over again. It felt like Nana Malone just put Bryna and Lucas’s names in place of Penny and Sebastian’s. There were slight differences, but not much. Even with that said I still gave it a high rating, 1: I love the author, 2: I love Bryna, 3: I still laughed. I loved Bryna’s sass, independence and her fight to be herself. I could not stand Lucas he was to full of himself and thinks he is God’s gift to women. The one likable thing is he is loyal and will do anything to protect the one’s he loves. Overall I was okay with the story I just wished there was more suspense than what I got. There was one big twist at the end I did not see coming. I received an ARC edition for my honest and voluntary review.
Be prepared to get the “Royal” treatment when you read Royal Bastard! It was a joy to read. There are characters from the Royal Undercover Series that are interconnected in this story, so if you’ve read them, you’ll see them again here. This book picks up where Cheeky King left off. It does end in a cliffhanger.
Lucas Newsome is an illegitimate prince & conman with a handsome face, and a hot body to match and he knows it! He is gorgeous, cocky, has a smart mouth, & great sense of humor, but there is more to him than meets the eye. No girl can resist him until Bryna. She isn’t fooled by his good looks, sense of humor, and charm. Lucas had a rough upbringing and did things that he isn’t proud of but he is a different man now and is turning over a new leaf for his brother Sebastian, the King of Winston Isles….. or is he?
Lady Bryna Trellis is a debutante. She’s beautiful, smart, sassy, and takes bull from no one. Her parents have tried to control her life for as long as she can remember. They have made every decision for her, including who she dates and marries. A series of events occurs and she’s over it. She’s done with her parents attempt to control every aspect of her life. She doesn’t want to live off of her name or status.
This story is full of laughs, angst, intrigue, steamy scenes, and a bit of danger too. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Lucas and Bryna had great chemistry. The story was well written and kept me engaged the entire time. I can’t wait to see what the conclusion to Lucas and Bryna’s story will be. Until then, I will be waiting impatiently! Thank you Nana for another smash hit!
Both Lucas and Bryna have controlling parents in common. That’s about it. Their meeting was unconventional, to say the least. She crawling out a small window during the new King’s wedding reception, he flirting with her ex-friend who cheated with her ex-fiance. Oh, yeah, her dress was caught up in her thong giving him an eyeful. Of course, their second meeting was eventful as will she was in…need to read this one.
Lucas is the recently found bastard son of the newly deceased King. His brother, the new king, searched and befriended him, accepting him into the royal family. He wants to do anything to make the king’s life easier. When he’s asked to watch over but don’t touch Miss-dress-in-thong, he knows life is gonna get rough.
Bryna is sassy, trying hard to be independent, and has no idea what she is in for in New York.
The book is funny, filled with sexual tension, intrigue, and pasts that haunt them. I couldn’t decide which character I liked best. As far as secondary characters, Roone is great. Hope he gets a book. We get a quick visit or two with some other Old Friends. I loved it and can’t wait for the end.
Reviewed for Words Turn Me On
I didn’t think this series could get any better, but it has. If you read the Royals Undercover series, then you are familiar with Lucas, Sebastian’s long lost brother. He is reluctantly trying to fit into his new life. He meets Bryna, by accident, and then again on purpose when he is assigned to look out for her in New York. Unfortunately, his past and her parents are determined to ruin them both.
OMG.. loved, loved, loved Lucas. Bryna, is such a breathe of fresh air. She is trying to become her own woman and doesn’t take any snuff from anybody. Especially Lucas. These characters are flawed and beautiful and super angsty and I love it. My favorite security guys from Blake Security also make an appearance, so HUGE thumbs up for that. But beware, the ending is a doozy! I cannot wait for book 2.
Great Book.
ARC received for honest review.
Royal Bastard by Nana Malone was my 1st book by this author. Readers beware – it is a duet so there is a cliffhanger.
I love royal romance stories. I’m a sucker for it. This is not your average royal romance. There are different subplots with the main story.
The story opens introducing the reader to Lucas, the former bad boy, con artist and your all around guy to stay away from until he finds out who he really is, a prince. Lucas wants to change his ways, and his life for his new found brother Sebastian. Sebastian recently became King after their father passed away. Lucas is happy to finally have someone to talk to, and who cares about him. He comes from a bad life filled with a mom who thinks money is more important than her son, a stepfather who wants him to run cons, and a shady past.
Bryna literally falls into his life. He is intrigued with her from the start, and they have an immediate attraction to each other. Little do they know but King Sebastian asks Lucas to keep an eye out for her while she is in NY. Bryna is escaping controlling parents, a cheating finance, and a life where she had to do what is expected and proper.
Lucas is fun and flirty, and together they explore NY and get to know each other. Lucas helps to protect Bryna, and give her a fresh start in NY. Their unofficial date was a turning point in their relationship, and you couldn’t help but want to be on it with them. There is definite chemistry between them.
Lucas has many inner struggles from helping his mom and stepfather, to doing what is right for Sebastian, and maintaining a friend’s only relationship with Bryna. Will Lucas and Bryna give in to temptation and choose to be with each other? Will Bryna accept Lucas’ past? Will Lucas do the right thing for himself, Bryna and Sebastian?
Read Royal Bastard to explore the relationship between Lucas & Bryna, and get your mind blown by that cliffhanger, my mouth is still hanging open. When does book 2 release lol!
Royal Bastard is a really good read. Nana Malone’s character interactions are literally laugh out loud funny. The banter between Bryna and Lucas, Lucas and Sebastian, Bryna and Jinx are comical. Even the small cameo from Ellie made me chuckle. True to form, not only did Ms. Malone make the book funny but she also made it sexy. Lucas and Bryna’s attraction to one another gets hotter and hotter with every page flip. Both of their internal dialogues are hilarious. Lucas’ description of how bad he wants Bryna is phenomenal. His words are so heartfelt. Nana Malone really has a way of making you feel the emotions of the characters and really brings them to life.
The relationship between Lucas and his mother was sad but predictable. With the first mention of his mother you could tell there was chaos coming in the form of “mommy dearest.” There were no surprises regarding where her loyalties lie but what was surprising was Lucas’ glutton for punishment attitude. However, I did like how he handled the ultimatum presented to him. It was unexpected (sort of) and could have gone the predictable route but I was happy the author chose differently. I’m just not sure why he didn’t tell Sebastian.
The only disappointing part of this book was the end. I did not like the cliffhanger aspect of the ending. However, it did make me wonder what would happen next with Lucas considering the new information he receives from his mother.
As much as I enjoyed Sebastian and Penny’s story, I fell in love with Lucas almost from his first scene. Such a snarky, cocky bad boy! Here we get his story, and what a story it is! He’s one of the most conflicted book boyfriends I’ve ever read. On the one hand, he’s been raised to be a grifter, a con artist, and everyone is a mark. On the other hand, he now has real family ties, real emotional attachments to both Sebastian and Penny, and he’s trying to come to grips with which life is his true self, or maybe he’s just figuring out how he can blend his past with his present to find peace in the future.
Bryna storms into his life and instantly sees right through him. But even she doesn’t know half the story, and Lucas doesn’t quite know how much he can safely share with her. Oh, how I loved their interplay – they aren’t afraid to confront each other with brutal honesty, and the intense sexual chemistry is like gasoline on a bonfire!
The writing in this book is so emotionally honest, even gut-wrenching at times. The layers of connections between all the characters were brilliantly constructed, setting the stage with an almost Shakespearean-level intricacy. I knew going in that there would be a cliffy, but it’s nothing like I would have expected. It’s almost mind-blowing with possibilities, and I can’t wait to read the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
