Izabel and Naeva find themselves right where they wanted to be in Mexico: captured and held in the slave compounds owned by the Ruiz family. But the two are soon separated and forced into very different—but equally dangerous—situations. Izabel spends the next three weeks playing a role she never expected she would have the opportunity to play. But her luck runs out when Naeva’s life hangs in the … the balance, and only Izabel can save her.
But at a terrible cost.
If Izabel chooses to help Naeva, it will expose a lie she has been carrying on her shoulders since she met Victor Faust. A lie that will not only potentially make everyone in Victor’s Order distrust her going forward, but one that will also blow her carefully constructed cover In Mexico, and get her killed.
Fredrik, still looking for his serial killer, does not have to look long—the killer finds him. And Niklas’ past catches up to him when an enemy comes back for revenge.
But it will be Victor’s actions that shake up those left in his Order, and ultimately, be its downfall.

This series is definitely a favorite of mine, I drop everything and read the newest addition when it is released. ‘Spiders in the Grove’ was no exception. Each book in the series typically focuses on one or two main characters, while the other characters are involved in a side scene, similar to that of a movie or tv serial. The writing is stellar and her characters are thoroughly developed.
Redmerski’s anti-heroes are twisted, psychotic and take no prisoners (unless it is to torture them). The only thing that seems to have the power to bring them down, is love. Her heroines are feisty, strong and independent. No matter what jam they find themselves in, they will figure a way out of it and be stronger because of it! If they let a man in their life it is as their companion, never will a man control or manipulate them.
I hate to say that SPIG did not fare well in comparison to the first six in the series. I found myself skimming some parts and found the characters didn’t have the same “feel” as they did in the first six books. Some of their thoughts and internal dialogue made them appear weak, and weak is something these characters are not. I expected more and perhaps I set myself up for disappointment. Regardless, I cannot wait to read the next book!
“I left Mexico as Sarai, and came back as Izabel. And once I have what I came here to get, I will kill them all.”
In the Company of Killers series is one of my favorites. I always impatiently wait on the next book in the series to release, so I can dive back into this intriguing, suspenseful and dark world. There was so much going on in this book, that I had to make sure that I didn’t get lost. It took me some time to remember what happened in the previous book, I think from now on it’s best I reread before starting a new book in this series. There are still so many secrets that need to be revealed, and there were many that were out in the open in this book. I was shocked my some and I loved all the plot twists. This review will be super vague, because for new readers of this series it would be all spoilers and for ItCoK series readers it is best to go in blind. I really hope if you have continued reading this series for this long, that you won’t give up on it now.
“As you are becoming stronger, Izabel, I am becoming weaker. I have stepped so far out of the only life I have ever known, that I do not know myself anymore.”
This installment was perfect in my opinion. The ending probably will be loved by some and disliked a bit by others, but I thought it was exactly what this series needed. I love it when the author mixes things up, and she definitely did that with this book. This book was mainly focusing on Izabel, but Niklas and Fredrik played an important role as well. I am super curious to see which direction the author will take with their stories. This series is sometimes like a puzzle, and we as a reader are just waiting on all the pieces to fall into place. It was full of suspense, action and it had me on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to see what will happen next, so I will impatiently wait on book 8: The Darkest Half to release.
Spiders in the Grove is the seventh installment in J.A. Redmerski’s dark romance/thriller series: In the Company of Killers. This installment picks up right where the sixth book leaves off… and if you are reading these books as they are released, you will very likely need a recap by skimming over Behind the Hands That Kill or reviewing your ebook highlights or reading some spoilery reviews. We have waited a LONG time for this continuation.
Spiders in the Grove primarily follows Izabel’s POV as she voluntarily puts herself back in the Ruiz compound. She has grown so much throughout this series and has absolutely proven herself to be grade A bad@ss. She has learned from the best to do whatever it takes to get her personal mission accomplished.
“Because the job isn’t about money for me – it’s about vengeance. And bloodshed. It’s about being a voice for those whose voices were stolen from them. And there is no shortage of people who deserve to die, that’s for sure.”
Redmerski also incorporated POV’s from other familiar characters (Fredrik, Niklas, The Red Lotus, Nora, Victor) in small increments throughout the novel which provided revelations, character support, and emotional suspense, but she again leaves her loyal readers half collapsed on the floor in dire need of the next installment…because that ending (and the serial killer revelation!!!! I knew it!!!).
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Spiders in the Grove. If you haven’t yet tested your toes in J.A. Redmerski’s dark, blood-filled waters, get on it. Seriously, it’s an awesome series! Note: In the Company of Killers absolutely must be read in order! Have fun 😉
