This is the last installment of the New York City’s Finest Series. Which happens to be the first book that I have read in this series. Christopher has well defined characters and I loved the way that I read this book out of order and didn’t feel as though I was missing pieces of a puzzle. It did make me want to go back and read all the stories, since each Hero from the previous books made an appearance.
This book is about Riley and Sam’s story. Sam believes that she is investigating murders from a Jack the Ripper copy-cat killer, however, her own department do not see the connection. She enlists the help of Riley. This book has suspense, romance, and an HEA. What more could you ask for.
Christopher Harlan did an excellent job!
The fifth and final instalment of this series, and I have to say Riley was my favourite by far! Wait….I think i said that about the other books as well…it’s like asking a mother to pick her favourite child!! Arghh!
Loved this series and getting to know all these characters- I am going to miss them 🙁
I enjoyed this book as a crime story more than a romance one.
Riley is a great detective who takes his work to heart.
He dwells on his cases and doesn’t let go.
He’s no nonsense and carries the weight of what he sees on the job almost to the point of being sick.
As good as he is at his job he has no luck with dating.
Samantha is a sassy young lady.
Her father was a former cop and knows what comes with that a job.
It’s kind of an insta lust/love when they meet.
The story focuses more on the case Riley is trying to solve, which I didn’t mind at all.
I thought the plot was interesting and I liked the theme of the crime that Riley was working on.
Overall an enjoyable book.
This was a hot sexy enthralling read about Riley and Samantha. Loved their interaction and banter. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t stop reading until I finished this sexy thrilling story. This was the final book in this awesome series. Loved this cutting edge series and I can’t wait to read more by Christopher Harlan.
Loved it
Riley was a great ending to this series. This is a well written story that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
This is the 5th and final book in this series that follows cops from New York’s five different Burroughs, the cases that bring them together and the women that love them. Riley is a highly regarded homicide detective who finds himself in a bit of a dating rut so he gives online dating a try, a la his friend Noah. However, he hopes to avoid the crazy cult-like ladies that his friend encountered. Date #1 definitely does not go as planned, but a chance meeting the next day at the local coffee shop has his hopes rising again. At the same time, he is drawn into a possible serial killer case on Staten Island which resembles the infamous killings of another murderer. Riley has to figure out the next move of the killer before they strike again, but must enlist the help of those he trusts the most. At the same time, he must keep his new detective partner safe, as well as explore the new relationship he has began with the woman, Samantha, at the coffee shop. Will Riley be able to stop the killer in time? Or will he meet his end at the hands of a deranged criminal and never be able to share his life with the woman who is quickly becoming his everything? Definitely check out this story, I loved it, but do yourself a favor and read the first four books as they all build on each other!
I really enjoyed Riley. There was just the right amount of intrigue and romance. I totally got into the banter between Riley and Sam – almost like some of my own conversations with people I know. And it was great getting to see all of the guys working together.
Even though this is the end of this series, I am looking forward to what Christopher comes up with next.
Riley has to help solve a copy cat serial killer in the forgotten borough of Staten Island. When things go awry, he needs to call in the boys—Calem, Jesse, Quinn and Noah. Together they will work to put an end to the brutal killings. Riley meets Sam waiting in line for coffee and then things heat up from there. She understands him and helps him in ways he didn’t know he needed. Love, love, love this series. Hate to see it end.
Great final book in this series. Riley and Sam had chemistry from the start. Loved their first meeting. This is definitely a series I recommend
It wasn’t just a kiss, it was The Kiss. The mother of all kisses. The kissing bully that shoved all of the weaker kisses down on the playground.”
I love Riley! He’s not your typical self-tortured hot cop. The one that pushes women away because the thought of leaving her a widow at some point makes him unworthy of love. No, Riley wants love. He wants marriage. He knows it will take work, but he wants it just the same. So sweet. And hot. Not to mention he’s one heck of a detective.
Riley has been called in by a Staten Island detective, Emily Curtis, to help her solve a rash of brutal murders happening in the area. The killer is mimicking Jack The Ripper, and if the pattern holds true, they only have days to stop the next one. Working hard to catch a killer is one thing. Trying to juggle a new relationship at the same time is another. Samantha is everything he could want, and she understands and accepts his job and the dangers that come with it. But, will she still be there when this case is over? Can he find a way to have both things he loves – his job AND Sam?
Samantha has found the perfect match in Riley. He’s handsome, sweet, and dedicated. Growing up with her detective father, she understands Riley more than most women would. But, he’s closed off. He won’t talk to her about his job and the incredible weight he carries. She saw what that type of attitude did to her parents, and she won’t settle for it in her own relationships. Should she stay and fight for Riley, showing him that he can trust her with his burdens. Or, should she cut her losses before she falls to hard for him. Honestly, it might be too late for that last one.
This is the final book in the New York City’s Finest series. I’m so sad to see it end. All of these books and the characters hold a special place in my heart. At the same time, I’m excited to see what Christopher Harlan has in store for us next. I have loved everything he’s written thus far, and I’m looking forward to his new ventures!!
What an epic way to end an amazing series. It’s always a joy to revisit New York’s boroughs, but this one is a little bittersweet, as Christopher Harlan concludes this stunning series. I have thoroughly loved what Christopher has delivered with his words in this entire series. Again, he gives you a special preview glimpse of not necessarily the end, but what may happen along the way in the opening. Riley and Samantha (Sam) will have you wanting to share their journey. It’s a romance that has wonderful, witty and sarcastic banter which will have you laughing yet it’s blended with beautiful tender moments. Both these characters just gel.
Like any good series, familiar characters are reoccurring! The team will support Riley anyway they can, using their strengths to find a a sadistic, serial killer. While Riley has thoroughly enjoyed his time helping his colleagues… he still loves being a detective. It’s a job that while challenging and satisfying, also leaves him mired in awfulness. He is wanting more than just the job. He wants someone to love and bring light to his life. Somehow, those techie dating apps just don’t quite live up to there intended purpose.
Then, don’t you find… it’s the randomness of life that brings someone into his life that will change his entire life. Coffee, long lines, patience and Samantha… but with the good comes something really bad. He is called to Staten Island, into the bowels this forlorn borough, to consulate on a case that defies evil in it’s depravity.
A gripping story, sexy tenderness, witty dialogue and a dramatic suspense case to make your heart race… while leading you to the conclusion of this series. You will want to definitely keep reading, Riley and Samantha, and the their new friends/team, will captivate you, as they take you to the end.
Note: While each story can be read as stand alone… my recommendation would be to read the entire series, to fully appreciate the characters and how they have got you to the end.
This is the 5th and final installment in the New York City’s Finest. He saved the best for last. Riley loves his job and is looking for a woman to spend his life with. Someone who understands his job and the long hours and how dangerous it is. He thinks he will never meet that special someone. Until one morning he meets Sam in a coffee shop. He ask her out on a date and she surprises him by saying yes. Will their date good? Will they have chemistry and will they have more in common than they think? So sad this is the end of this series but also excited to see what he comes up with next
Christopher Harlan’s New York City’s Finest series is one of my favorites and I am sorry to see it come to an end. “Riley” is the final installment and Christopher has given us another winner. Each book in the series follows a member of law enforcement working in one of the five boroughs of New York City. Riley is a Homicide detective in the Bronx who is asked to assist with a serial murder case on Staten Island. He is meticulous, extremely intelligent and has one of the highest closing rates in the NYPD. He is best friends with Calem, Jesse, Quinn and Noah from the other books in the series and they often help each other with their respective cases.
Riley is secure and content with his career, but he has yet to meet the one woman who he could share his life with. It is hard dating someone in law enforcement, and it takes a special woman to accept the long hours and dangerous cases. One morning while waiting in line for coffee, Riley noticed a beautiful woman standing next to him. When he gazed into her sparkling green eyes he felt a connection that he had never experienced before. Her name was Samantha, but she told him to call her ‘Sam’. She had an intoxicating smile, smelled like strawberries and is easy to talk to. Riley is positive he is dreaming but when he asked her out to dinner, she said, “I’d love to.”
How will Riley and Sam get along on their date and will they have more in common than either of them realized?
Can Riley help solve the case on Staten Island, or will he need to ask his friends for help?
I feel as if I am losing a best friend with the end of this series!! I love how Christopher weaves suspense with romance and he always realistically portrays the importance of law enforcement in society. I am very excited to see what Christopher has in store for us next!!
