They tie the temporary knot on Christmas Day…
The plan is to stay married only until the rumors have passed, but in the meantime… why not live a little? There’s an attraction between them neither can deny. “They were contrasting in every way. The filthy-rich girl. The wrong-side-of-the-tracks guy.”
This has been the year of Christmas-themed romance novels for me. This is the fourth one I’ve read so far. It’s the simplest one, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Just a simple, love-filled, heartwarming love story, at Christmas.
“He tasted…amazing. Like spiced cider and a capable, strong, heartbroken man who kept his hurts hidden from the outside world.”
When I started reading this book, I immediately felt more connected to Emmett than I did to Stef, and that helped me understand him better. The broody guy who doesn’t love Christmas because his life was shattered during the holiday season once. I was smiling as I was reading because that’s what this book does to you. It puts a smile on your (or my) not-so-happy Christmas-y face.
“She’d walked into the room and her presence had slain the demons.”
It’s not that I don’t understand Stefanie. Her heart’s in the right place. She loves her family and is definitely loved back. I love that she’s showing them that she’s capable of making her own decisions and choosing for herself. Of living her life the way she wants to. And that takes guts, even if you have the money for it.
“She wanted him to know that he was as worthy of her as she was of him. That they’d found forever in the unlikeliest of circumstances.”
This is a fast-paced romance. They’ve known each other for 10 years and were both convinced of their dislike for each other. Emmett is her brother’s head of security, dedicated to protecting the Mayor of Dallas and his family. But maybe he’s more aware of her than she knows, and maybe she’s more attentive to what he does and his grumpy face than he knows too. So yes, a marriage of convenience was the perfect thing to finally get them to act instead of just staring.
“‘Time for both of us to make better Christmas memories.'”
This is a love story between two people who are really very different, but the same where it counts. Between the rich it girl who is seen as the screw-up by so many, but who just wants to make it on her own terms, and the guy who thinks where he comes from and his past are more important than where he’s going, or that any of it should define his life. It’s not. And it shouldn’t.
They’re giving love, and themselves, a chance. Everyone else be damned.
I absolutely enjoyed Stefanie and Emmet’s story in A Christmas Proposition by Jessica Lemmon, book three in her Dallas Billionaires Club series. Stefanie Ferguson usually acts without thinking of the consequences. Once again she finds herself embroiled in a scandal, one. Based on an off-handed comment, she decides getting married could be the answer to this dilemma; once more, not thinking things through. Emmett Keaton, her brother’s best friend and body guard, reluctantly agrees to help her, entering into what is supposed to be a temporary marriage. A secret Christmas Day wedding might just change the dynamics for the relationship Stefanie and Emmett have with her family, and each other. I loved Emmett; his strength, understanding and feelings for Stefanie. Stefanie was harder to like when it appeared she was a selfish, thoughtless, socialite. As the story progressed I was able to see another facet, the generous and compassionate Stefanie who really cared about her family and her reputation.
Ms. Lemmon wrote a wonderful and emotional story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sexual chemistry, amusing banter, and endearing characters giving Stefanie and Emmett a chance at having a real marriage. I highly recommend A Christmas Proposition to other readers.
4 1/2 STARS!
Fast paced, attention grabbing and decadently yummy! You’ll recognize the heroine as the younger sister of Chase and Zach Ferguson who we’ve met in the earlier books in the Dallas Billionaires Club series, and this book is just as juicy as they were! Lots of steam, witty banter galore, and a whole lot of fun to read!
Stefanie Ferguson is tired of being the problem child. It seems being the youngest in a successful family leaves the door wide open for childish mistakes you never seem to be able to live down. When she sees another about to happen, she’ll stop at nothing to attempt to not let it ruin her brother’s political career … even proposing a marriage of convenience!
Emmett Keaton grew up with Stefanie as her brother’s best friend, so he knows her and her jump before you think nature quite well. He’ll marry her, but if she thinks it’s going to be hands off, she’s got another think coming!
Finally Stef and Emmett!!!
Brother’s best friend, enemies to lovers, marriage of convenience, opposites attract all in one amazing story! Watching these two shoot glares, that were disgusting longing, throughout this series has been so much fun and now watching them stumble into a marriage of convenience has been even better!
I’m sad to be leaving the world of the Ferguson’s but can’t wait to see what Jessica Lemmon has in store next!
Stefanie Ferguson has found herself in a bit of a bind, she has an despicable ex that is waiting in the wings ready to pounce at any moment, and she wants nothing to do him. He of course is up to something that could put a wrench in her brothers political career, and she has the perfect plan to send him packing once and for all. It requires a man on bended knee, with ring in hand and a walk down the aisle on the very near horizon… but there is just one tiny issue, there is no willing man in the picture. Or is there?
Nothing says steamy read ahead like a forbidden romance, within minutes of meeting these two it was evident that they had a connection, even if it wasn’t glaringly obvious to them. But in the confines of a car, on a lengthy road trip they began to appreciate the finer things about one another, that may have been dismissed before. Then an idea starts to take shape, sparks start simmering, and then all of a sudden things take a serious turn and Emmett and Stefanie are setting flames to the pages! And I was reaching for the nearest fan, and getting all dreamy eyed… and saying silent “thank-you’s” to Ms. Lemmon for her perfectly crafted characters and their unforgettable story! Loved this one so much!! Highly recommend you get your hands on this one, it’s so good!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
I loved A CHRISTMAS PROPOSITION! An enemies to lovers story, it was the perfect heartfelt holiday read.
I have to say that I’ve been eagerly awaiting this book ever since Mimi and Chase’s book. I knew there was something simmering between these two and I couldn’t wait to find out.
There is so much more to Stefanie than being one of Dallas society’s it girls. Beneath the glitter lies a heart of gold and a need to be loved. And Emmett, his tragic past is so heartbreaking, but his fierce protectiveness of Stefanie made me fall in love with him. I wanted so badly for Emmett to realize he’s worthy of not only love, but Stefanie’s love especially, and to finally find his place – his home – in this world.
