An all-girls vampire camping trip turns deadly when a sasquatch hunter is accidentally killed. All Esma Siban wants this summer is to stay out of her stepmother’s way. When her stepsister, Morgan, suggests a road trip to Oregon to visit a friend from high school, Esma jumps on the idea. A camping trip sounds like the perfect way to help Esma recover from breaking up with her boyfriend. But when … with her boyfriend. But when Esma and Morgan encounter a stalker, Esma’s fangs come out. The death of a Sasquatch hunter wasn’t on their itinerary. A terrified Esma is unsure what to do next, so she texts her ex-boyfriend for help.
Chase Wheeler feels like the biggest fool on the football team. The entire time he was dating Esma, he had no idea she was a vampire. In high school Chase did exactly what Esma told him to. He let Esma plan their dates, pick his wardrobe, and even pack his lunches. Now Chase has a month left before he starts college to forget the girl who froze his heart.
When Chase lands an internship on the popular radio talk show Fred Head, he finds his voice and charts a future that doesn’t involve domineering girlfriends. But all it takes is one text from Esma and Chase runs back to her waiting arms. Chase finds the courage to tell Esma that he’s through with being bossed around right when Esma realizes that she desperately needs Chase’s input. The only way home from this camping trip is to be bitten or smitten.more
A fun follow up to Bite Me. The author changed up the two point of view characters so Chase and Esme are now front and center. Van and Morgan still play important roles, but we don’t get into their heads. It’s helpful to read Bite Me first, but this book can stand alone with a completely different plot focused on Sasquatches rather than vampires. And there are enough reminders from book 1 that the reader would easily be able to figure Chase and Esme’s world.
In this comical three-book series, Cypress explores the depth of friendship, intimacy…and the undead. If you were forced to tell the one person who truly cared about you that you were a vampire, could you do it? You would be chancing that person would still want to be with you even though you lied to them for your entire relationship—and the obvious, you know—that you’re dead. And…you would have to think about them telling others your secret. Cypress has some of the classic lore intertwined with some original scenes in the mix, making the second installment in this series one that will be hard for readers to put down.
Esma is a Puritan, which means that she does not feed on human blood. In actuality, she has never had the desire for human blood…since becoming a vampire. Now with the purity test behind her and her vampire stepsister in tow, she must learn how to live with the ramifications of prom night. Her boyfriend—or rather ex-boyfriend now—can’t even look at her after that horrible night of blood, gore, and death. What was supposed to be one of the best nights of her teenage life will forever haunt her thanks to mommy dearest. Cassandra Xander decides to take it upon herself to give the girls a break before college and plan a road trip for them all. Thinking that this would be a fun way to relax and get some much needed girl time, the trip takes a couple of sharp turns and they wind up with a Sasquatch. Yes…a Sasquatch. With Sasquatch being friendly and all, they have an easy enough time rescuing him from a hunter in the woods, but that was an amateur. Sasquatch are usually always pets of other vampires. Esma may be forced to ask the only person—besides the parents—who knows who she is for help, but Chase might not want anything to do with her and then they would be left stranded in an unknown forest with some creepy vampire owners on their trail. What will they do when they are faced with hunters who are not only faster, but stronger and angry because someone stole their Sasquatch?
Cypress has a terrific story-line, filled with creativity, originality and fascinating characters. The pace is very quick, but easy to follow and enjoyable. The story appears to be written fairly well and both narrators, Cendese and Buhr, are able to captivate their audience with their vocal differentiation and tone. This installment does not spare the drama that goes on in a teenager’s life, but it is meant to be satirical and geared toward a young adult audience. With that being mentioned, there are some scenes that appear childish but the intention is that it is from a teenager’s point of view. If you are a reader of young adult and paranormal romance, this may be a good fit. This is the second installment in the Puritan Coven Series; therefore, it is recommended for the reader to start from the beginning. While the second book focuses on a different main character, it is still a direct continuance from the previous story-line.
