Of all the codes they teach us… those of duty, honor, trust, loyalty… none ever speak of love. The story is well-known. A Lorcan princess, who died at the hands of a wicked prince. And the captain, whose quest for vengeance knew no bounds. But what if her death had been an elaborate plot? Instead of murder, Princess Liza is taken captive by the cruel-hearted Prince Nicholi, with the reluctant … Nicholi, with the reluctant assistance of Captain Erik, of the Muir Court Guard. Focused entirely on his own aspirations, the prince demands Liza consent to become his rose bride, which would place both her eternal soul, and her kingdom, in his pitiless grasp.
As the prince awaits his answer with withering patience, Liza’s only comfort comes in a guarded friendship with the Muir captain; a man torn between obeying the sacred vows of knighthood and his desire to protect the princess he has come to love.
Enraged beyond reason when discovering Erik’s devotion to the woman he considers his property, Nicholi forces Liza to make an impossible choice.

All these books are so amazing. This was no exception. Filled with love and loss and beauty and tragedy. I could not recommend them more
We came to know Princess Liza as a young child in the first book of the series, The Black Rose. I love how carefree and loving and joyous she was and how we got to see her grow up within a court of nightmares and torments and still possess those precious qualities.
Liza was sheltered from many of the Lorcan Queens activities only to have everything about her seemingly perfect life blow up catastrophically within the walls of the Muir Court at the hands of the rotten Prince Nicholi!
In this latest installment in this fantastic series, the adult life of Princess Liza is the main story. I was so happy, sad, angry, hurt, and happy again all through this book! The life she lives is not pleasant by any means but definitely has those pleasant moments. The love between Liza and Erik is so enchanting, it can fool you into thinking the terrible things are not occurring! I am thrilled to finally confirm my theory about Lady Sandra, but I don’t want to give away any spoilers!
Definitely read this series starting with The Black Rose and going all the way up to this five star read! I just wished it could have gone on for so many more pages because K.L Bone is truly a master with words and tales and making you feel like you are in the stories she writes so magnificently!
The much-anticipated novel by KL Bone went much too fast for me. I BLINKED, and it was over. I think my excitement overrode my pacing because before I knew it, I swiped my last page.
Tragic really! All of it. I literally cried my eyes out reading this book. Cried because Liza, the beloved Lorcan Princess believed to be dead was brutalized and tortured. Cried because we had to relive the agony each character felt when she supposedly died (IN OUR MIND AGAIN.) Then I cried while scanning through to see if I read the passages right because it didn’t seem right. She wouldn’t do that to sweet Liza. Not our Liza!! Then again the alternative wasn’t right either!
Then when I reached the last word, on the last page of the last chapter, I knew. I knew I would keep crying through to the very LAST book. The mere knowledge of what must be done NOW. What the next book will do to die-hard fans will be catastrophic! KL Bone will have to hand out lollipops to pacify our inner child and band-aids for our boo-boos.
Bone’s writing has flourished. She has mastered the art of storytelling ten folds and has taken her fans to new heights. There were no roller coaster rides here; she commanded the feels of a full-blown dragon flight!!
My Nerd Girl hat to you, KL Bone!! If I could give you ten stars, they would be yours! Thank you for a fantastic ride!!!
