This is part of the Knights of Honor series- an excellent series for lovers of Medieval Romance!
What to do when your protege is much better than you, but is the wrong sex? Set in a time period where women were just “decoration”, the tale of Rosalyne and Edward is one fraught with hidden identities, betrayal, but above all, loyalty and love. Rosalyne paints beautifully, but allows her Uncle to receive the credit and accolades. An agreement which benefits both. Unfortunately, when Edward arrives in town incognito for the King, he discovers not all is as it seems, and not just with Rosalyne. This is a fun read with a very memorable hero and heroine.
What a wonderful book this was from the first page to the last. The story had so much going on and characters where so well developed, I felt their joy and their pain. In the prologue we are introduced to Benedict Bowyar and his not so lovely wife Amicia, what a horrible person she was and that’s putting it mildly. In the beginning we meet Rosalyne our heroine in the story as a baby, born to Lars, Benedict’s brother and Lara the woman who Benedict really loved. Both parents have died and Rosalyne is sent from Shallowheart to save her life. Edward de Montfort is the youngest son of the Earl of Kinwick and they are helping King Richard fighting against the Scots. As the story unfolds he is sent to Canterbury on a mission for the king, and there he meets Rosalyne now a beautiful grown woman and for him it’s love at first sight. She has been raised by her mother’s brother Temp who is a great artist, a gift she also has for as we find out she surpasses him as a painter. The author left me in awe at the detail she went into as far as the history of the time, and all that went into making the frames and colors that artists used in their work in those days. The love between Edward and Rosalyne was beautiful you could see and feel all that they were going through, some of the things he said to her were enough to make a girl swoon and sigh, of course we have some greedy villains to keep us on our toes, but overall everyone else who made this such a great read were pretty likeable characters. I am so pleased to have been introduced to Alexa Aston’s work I know I will be buying more of her books. I highly recommend her.
This is the first book I have read by this author, but it definitely will not be the last!! Alexa Aston has a way of pulling you into the story with her great descriptions and history while bringing the characters alive. This is a tale of Edward de Montfort, a fierce knight that has been sent on a secret mission by the King. He comes from a strong, large family and he hopes that after this mission he will be able to return home and settle down. Our heroine Lady Rosalyne Parry is on a secret mission of her own! Living with her uncle who is an artist sought out for his paintings, she is forced to paint in his stead as his health is failing. Of course nobody knows it is Rosalyne completing the paintings because of course, she is a woman and in these times would not have been accepted as a great artist. Edward and Rosalyn meet by chance and of course at first, each has a secret that eventually comes to light.
I encourage you to read this wonderful story of two people who are meant to be together but have some obstacles in their path. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!!
Lady Rosalyne Parry has been brought up and trained by her uncle. He is an artist who is quite successful, painting portraits for the rich and famous and several works for the church. Unfortunately he has a health problem that puts their livelihood at risk.
Sir Edward de Montfort is a member of the King’s guard. He has been sent to investigate a problem in the cathedral city of Canterbury. Someone is lining their own pockets at the expense of the Crown. That is definitely not allowed.
Our characters are young adults that have been forced by circumstance to grow up quickly. Our hero comes from a large loving family that have been in service to the Crown for generations. Our heroine has nobody except her beloved uncle and a big secret to keep. There are a lot of very interesting historical facts about the painting process to go with the lovely romantic story. Wonderful characters you can’t help but fall in love with.
This is from a series of books that can each be read on their own, but are better read in order. I have read and loved all of them.
I was delighted to have the opportunity to read LOVE AND HONOR, Book 7 in the Knights of Honor Series. This series is based on the members of the de Montfort family. In this book, Edward de Montfort, the youngest of the de Montfort Brothers was cast into the main character role and was actually knighted on the battle by the King. Rosalyne Parry, the Complex female leading character lived with her uncle, Templeton Parry, a well revered artist, live a modest life supported primarily by the sales of Templeton’s paintings. There are many twists and turns in this love story that will keep you turning page after page. The characters are developed with depth and complexities, the males exhibit both warrior skills as well as the gentle skills as the patient, loving skills needed to reassure a strong, independent woman to come to see the truth her offers. In this series all of the books can be read as stand alone, but I recommend you read them in order if possible them. I highly recommend this wonderful 5 Star read, as well as the others in the series.
