She’s a survivor. He has a royal secret. Will the truth help them find their fairy tale?
When art history student Clementine receives a social media message complimenting her latest project, her response leads to the mysterious CP Chadwick, a British man studying history at Cambridge. An online friendship quickly blooms. When she confides her medical past to CP, he doesn’t treat her as fragile … doesn’t treat her as fragile like her parents do, and their friendship turns to something more in Clementine’s heart.
Clementine has no idea that CP is actually Prince Christian of Wales, who has never had a “normal” life. Christian is at a crossroad. His destiny is to be a working royal, but he is desperate to fill that role in his own way. Wary of others, he’s kept himself closed off from the world—until he lets Clementine in.
A royal romance is never a fairy tale, but Clementine and Christian are determined to write their own version. Can they overcome their own fears—as well as the constraints of royal life—to reach their own happily ever after?
A Royal Shade of Blue is the first standalone book in the feel-good Modern Royals romantic comedy series. If you like smart heroines, swoon-worthy princes, and laugh-out-loud humor, then you’ll love Aven Ellis’s heartwarming novel.

This was such a cute and fun royal romance. It reminded me a bit of The Prince & Me only with an updated twist. I found the characters to be complex and their relationship, while a bit rushed, to be believable.
I like how both Christian and Clementine are suffering under similar feelings, though in vastly different circumstances. They relate to each other that way and it’s easier for them both to treat each other as just a normal person. I also like how Clementine is so passionate about her work and how Christian is so driven to find something to give him purpose.
I was very drawn to Liz in the book and was excited to see that she gets her own book in the 2nd volume of this series.
I hadn’t read this author before, but I was very pleased!
This was my first Aven Ellis’s book, and won’t be my last. Clementine and Christian’s modern fairy tale is sweet and beautifully written. I love Royal’s stories! Prince Christian is handsome, charming, fun, protective and supportive. Clementine is a fun character, strong and beautiful. The storyline is fast-paced, filled with twists and turns. The scenery is beautifully described. I loved their journey to love. Andrea Emmes did an amazing job with the narration. The voices were easy to distinguish. I enjoyed reading this story. Now, I’m looking forward for the next book in the Series. I was given a free review copy of the audiobook — at my request — and have voluntarily left this review.
This is a first read for me from this author and I am in love. I loved the mystery in the story where I didn’t know who the hero was. This story definitely kept me enthralled from the very first word. The characters were so interesting and their back stories truly moved me. I highly recommend this series, book and author. I know Aven Ellis is definitely a must read for me now.
Book 1 is A Royal Shade of Blue and it stars CP (Christian Philip) and CJ (Clementine Jones) who meet online and she lives in Palo Alto in Northern California and he attends school in Cambridge England. Both are college students and the same age. This is a story of them falling in love through Instagram and text messages. The big reveal happens fairly early and it was so awesome. These two were sweet and romantic and they have some big secrets but they really fall hard for each other.
I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Get ready for a royal insta-love read! Clementine had a difficult childhood involving her health, and while she is recovered and thriving in college, she feels that her family still treats her with kid gloves and doesn’t trust her or her health. When she finds a message from CP (aka Christian) on Instagram and is intrigued by his profile, she starts talking to him daily and they build a quick friendship that instantly turns into something more. But when he discloses that he is actually a prince, she gets upset thinking that he is lying and feels like she’s going through a breakup with someone she’s known for years. Surprising to her, Christian travels to the US to show that he is in fact being truthful, and they spend a whirlwind of a weekend together where they decide to be together. From there, Clementine starts to make plans post-graduation that involve relocating to be with Christian but also starting a career that she has worked so hard for. And once the press finds out, things hit the fan for them! Between another health scare, the press hounding Clementine, and Christian’s mother aka the queen, there is a ton of drama in this story that had me guessing until the end! This was my first read from this author, and while I enjoyed this book, I was more interested in seeing what happens with the other characters and the continuation of the series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This book made me want to munch Chips Ahoy and book a flight to London. Super fun royal romcom!
This story is a cute bit of fluff, and that’s not bad at if it’s fun and entertaining – and it is.
Unfortunately there are too many mistakes in punctuation and other areas that disrupt the fun.
Here are just a few of those:
A roommate takes her fish out of the microwave, rewarming it after it’s sat there for an hour. YUM. How is this person still alive?
The big no-no is that ‘piercing blue eyes’ are mentioned four times. This has been known as a cliched crutch for well over a decade. It’s surprising that anyone has missed the memo by now.
The word ‘swoon’ is used seven times. One or two of those would have been more that enough. There are other words, truly.
Someone ‘chuckles’ and grand total of twenty-one times. Boring. Unimaginative. Again, there are so many other words.
Commas and semi-colons are tossed around seemingly at random. This is basic, therefore inexcusable.
Warmth ‘radiates’ from the hero at least one too many times. Maybe this guy has a fever, someone call a medic.
I’m not going any further, I’m bored with it. The point is that things like this are disruptive to the reader, and that’s the last thing you want to have happen. It’s also a bit insulting to the reader. Word.
It’s really a shame, this is not a bad story, and I might even be tempted to go on with the series. A bit of cleaning up the basics and this could probably reach a four star rating in its genre. Showing the reader you care can go a long way.
A royal meets a commoner through instagram. Lovely story.
Typical story for this genre.
Love these almost true romantic fairytales read all the books in the series and enjoy them all for light entertainment
Improbable but entertaining
A prince meets girl on line. They genuinely fall in love. Facing many obstacles of royalty and a commoner. Good story, but a little over dramatic.
UK is not lead by Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, etc. Let go of reality Have an awesome romp in this fairy tale. Slight take off of Prince Harry’s romance of a commoner? Maybe. It has some really funny parts. A bit of sex you can skim past. But, it deals with the issues of ‘born into a role’ vs ‘overly protected due to child trauma’ I really let go and enjoyed it.
A Royal Shade of Blue! 3.5 stars
I won this book, written by Aven Ellis, during a Facebook event, so I was excited to check her book and style of writing, since she is new to me. I’m a little disappointed with A Royal Shade of Blue! I expected more! I didn’t read it until the very end because it didn’t grab my interest. It’s really not my type of reading because I like a more realistic love story. It’s a good story but I felt it was missing something. I also felt like the romance was a bit rushed. I love fairy tales of prince and princess, but this one wasn’t for me! I gave this author a try, maybe her next books will please me.
To say that I really like this story will be selling it short. To say that the list of dream cast members were a contributing factor would be right on point. I very much enjoy this read shortly after receiving the authors’ dream cast for this romance. Yes, I say romance not rom-com. I found it to be more real than some romances and more romance than a combination of romance and comedy. Don’t mistake my words. There were moments to laugh out loud at and then those just to laugh, but I found it to be all romance.
It’s safe to say that you will fall in love with Clementine Jones and all that encompasses her. She was a delight fresh air feel. She was honest. She was herself. She was smoother by family and loved by one man many thousands of miles away. All this before it happened.
Aven Ellis did a fantastic job selecting the characters to portray her characters for a movie. I could so totally see Kate Beckinsdale as Queen Antonia. I would love to see Helen Mirren as Jillian. She would rock that role. I loved having this dream cast in my head as I listen to the story. I was able to have a more vivid visual.
Clementine and Christian were so delightful together and their connection was just wonderful. The I’m-here-for-you-friendship even before they meet each other was delicious. Now, the big reveal had me reeling just a bit. I was very understanding of Clementine and her reaction, but a bit put off that she was not more open minded. I sereious recommend this romance to lovers of romance and mainly those hallmark romance lovers. This was so much a better romance of royalty than what I have seen on Hallmark in a while. It was more real. Gave the reader/viewer/listener more to fall in love with.
Andrea Emmes took my breath away. She did the job for English, American, Irish, and upper-crust stogie well. The audio was smooth and gave me much to enjoy.
This was a lot of fun. I found the idea of becoming “one of them” vs self very interesting.
