“What a box of tricks! This full-throttle thriller, dark and driving, rivals Agatha Christie for sheer ingenuity and James Patterson for flat-out speed. Swift, sharp, and relentless.” — A. J. Finn, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in the WindowA brilliant, edgy thriller about four strangers, a blizzard, a kidnapped child, and a determined young woman desperate to unmask and … strangers, a blizzard, a kidnapped child, and a determined young woman desperate to unmask and outwit a vicious psychopath.
A kidnapped little girl locked in a stranger’s van. No help for miles. What would you do?
On her way to Utah to see her dying mother, college student Darby Thorne gets caught in a fierce blizzard in the mountains of Colorado. With the roads impassable, she’s forced to wait out the storm at a remote highway rest stop. Inside are some vending machines, a coffee maker, and four complete strangers.
Desperate to find a signal to call home, Darby goes back out into the storm . . . and makes a horrifying discovery. In the back of the van parked next to her car, a little girl is locked in an animal crate.
Who is the child? Why has she been taken? And how can Darby save her?
There is no cell phone reception, no telephone, and no way out. One of her fellow travelers is a kidnapper. But which one?
Trapped in an increasingly dangerous situation, with a child’s life and her own on the line, Darby must find a way to break the girl out of the van and escape.
But who can she trust?
With exquisitely controlled pacing, Taylor Adams diabolically ratchets up the tension with every page. Full of terrifying twists and hairpin turns, No Exit will have you on the edge of your seat and leave you breathless.

If you want a total nail biter and a total suspenseful read-this is it!
This book will have you on the edge of your seat!! Great read and a must for thriller and horror fans!!
I’m all for a good thriller, and that does not always mean realistic. But this novel reaches the point of ridiculous. It begins with CSU college student Darby receiving a call that her mother is dying of cancer, and she journeys through a snowstorm in her old Honda. As the storm worsens, Darby stops at a rest area along the highway, and joins as cast of characters to wait out the storm. None of the characters, including Darby herself, is likeable, and that does not change as you read on. The action mounts as Darby steps outside to make a phone call. She notices what looks like a child’s hand and glimpses a dog kennel in one of the vans. The novel takes a turn as all inside become suspect, and Darby sets out to save the child. Far-fetched? It becomes even more so as the suspects narrow (no spoiler here) to a nail gun wielding psychopath who sees Darby as a rival. In a stunning series of moves she grabs the child, Jay, and attempts to escape from the psycho and his helper. But like all villains he cannot be vanquished and Darby takes some pretty brutal punishment in the interim. The novel ends in a violent, but ultimately predictable way. I found myself skimming through the last 20+ pages since I was so bored by the point (in reality the boredom set in much earlier), just to finish the book. Time spent reading this” you won’t get it back. If you are looking for a good, and well-written thriller look elsewhere.
Wow wow wow 10stars amazing book was hooked after the first page!!!
“Sometimes God puts people exactly where they need to be. Even when they don’t know it.”
Darby Thorne is a sophomore at Colorado University-Boulder when she gets an emergency call from her sister. Her mother, who she has a troubled relationship with, is dying of stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
So she gets in her beater car and heads over the mountains right before Christmas heading to the hospital her mother is in in Utah.
Unprepared she heads right into a terrible blizzard and barely makes it to a heated rest stop – and finds four fellow travelers stranded there too. When she heads outside to try to find cell phone coverage, she accidentally finds a young girl locked in the back of a van and knows that one of the other travelers is responsible.
I LOVED this story. It was just right. Suspenseful, twisty, full of frightening moments – I zoomed through the pages.
I think this book was also released last year. I didn’t read it then and I’m not sure whether changes were made in the story but it is a “killer” story.
I received this book from Harper Collins through Edelweiss in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.
Prepare for a thrilling roller coaster of a ride as Darby tries to rescue a girl held hostage while stranded at a Visitor’s Centre with 4 others.
This book grabs you as Darby tries not so successfully to escape from one of the travelers who kidnapped the girl.
But everywhere and every time Darby tries there is No Exit. No matter how many times I yelled at her to go the other way.
A fast, relentless read with twists and turns around every corner.
Buckle up !!!
A phone call that her mother had cancer, a snow storm, a rest stop with strangers, and worst of all a child locked in a cage in a van.
Could it get any worse for Darby?
Who was the child, which one of the strangers in the rest stop was the kidnapper, and what can Darby do about it since there is no cell signal and no way the police could get there anyway in all that snow?
NO EXIT has us sharing a rest stop with the other stranded people trying to make time pass, but as time passes the tension and danger builds because Darby finds out who the kidnapper is and is secretly threatened to keep quiet.
As you read, you feel Darby’s terror about the safety of herself and the other strangers and wish the snow would stop, cell service would be available, and some help would arrive.
If you have always thought rest stops were creepy places, you will be even more wary after reading NO EXIT.
NO EXIT has characters that unfortunately could very well be exactly as they are portrayed whether they are at a rest stop or at a resort. The kidnappers were pretty evil and had no regard for human life.
Mr. Adams keeps you turning the pages, worrying, and wondering how it all will turn out as he slowly and expertly reveals who is who and what is happening.
Talking about an intense read, we need to capitalize INTENSE.
NO EXIT has so much tension your heart will be pounding, and you won’t want to stop reading.
When you think you have figured out what is going on, another surprise pops up.
If you thrive on thrillers, NO EXIT will not want to be missed. 5/5
This book was given to me by the publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
I lost sleep over this book – I just could not go to bed until I had finished it. Suspenseful! Intense!
It is Christmas Eve and Darby Thorne, a college student, is eager to get home to her mother who is dying of cancer. Their last visit had not gone well and Darby is eager to make amends with her mother. But she gets caught in a major snow storm and is forced to take refuge, along with four other adults, in a remote highway rest area.
Desperate to get news of her mother’s condition, she goes outside in search of a signal so she can call home. As she returns to the security of the rest stop building she makes a discovery that will completely turn her world upside down. She sees a small child’s hand in the window of a gray van and, upon closer inspection, is horrified when she realizes there is a little girl locked in a dog kennel inside the back of the van.
Darby learns the little girl has been kidnapped. But by whom? And why? Darby is determined to save her. With no way to call for help and not knowing whom she can trust, she finds herself trapped with a psychopath.
The story is fast paced with lots of action. It borders on the ridiculous at times but I found I didn’t care. Great writing – characters you either love or hate. I was completely consumed with the story of “Superwoman” Darby.
Greatly enjoyed reading this book. I could visualize everything that was happening to the characters in the book. Found it hard to put down in just knowing something was going to happen next.
