The Last Hope is a gripping mystery with a dash of romance. If you like mind-bending whodunits, sizzling sex scenes, and tenacious heroines, then you’ll love this thrilling police procedural.more
This mystery/sci-fi/horror story kept me turning pages well into the night. It’s original, with likable, well-developed characters, and will keep you guessing to the end. Totally recommended for fans of police procedurals with an off-beat, original twist.
I can’t believe how good this book is! I thought prequels were simple without so many twists! This was a great read that was full of twists but also contained a bit of a futuristic twist. A must read!
Twists and turns…kept me up reading
Once again C.C. Jameson delivered a very entertaining and thought provoking installment in the Kate Murphy series. While using all of her detective skills and enlisting the aid of a rediscovered best friend, Kate tries to prove her uncle’s innocence. What they find is something out of a horror movie. Can’t wait to read the next book in Kate’s story.
This is the second Kate book I have read. This one was a little different. I enjoyed it, and the writing is good, but it veered a little into the sci-fi vein (or at least I sure hope so) for me. I still love the Kate series though.
Great continuation of Kate Murphy’s life and work on the police force. An old friend becomes more and she solves a most puzzling case for the detectives. It’s a page turner with an unbelievable storyline you can’t put down.
Looks like Kate Murphy has what it takes to be a detective.
The Last Hope, the second novel in the Kate Murphy Mystery books, is a great suspenseful thriller. What would you do if the last member of your family is accused of murder? What would happen if your clone was out, somewhere in the world, murdering people? Thorough detective work on Kate’s part brings to light clues that will unravel not only her uncle’s erroneous incarceration, but so many others. This incredible story is a page-turner. I couldn’t put it down. Another great novel by C.C. Jameson.
Kate Murphy patrol cop’s uncle Kenny is accused of murder. His DNA is found at the crime scene. She works to prove he did not commit murder, but the evidence looks bad for him. Kate wants to be a detective, so she asks to work with the team investigating her uncle’s case on her own time. This is a page turner to find the truth in this murder. There is a slue of murders of people that have committed sexual assault with DNA left behind.
I started reading and had difficulty putting this down. It is very engaging and intriguing. I was very surprised with the twists the book took and though I did not read the first book in this series, I really enjoyed reading about Kate and getting to know her and her uncle.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

After reading the first book in the series I delved straight in to this one and was not disappointed! We have the same female lead character who is trying to get her life on track when she has another blow and finds that her Uncle has been arrested. She has to prove him innocent, she trusts him, she knows him, and she loves him, he’s her family! Another well written book by this author, a great mystery that kept me engaged throughout.

The Last Hope A Kate Murphy Mystery C.C. Jameson
Spoilers:
{The storyline seems to flow better in the first 5 chapters as compared to the first book}.
The book starts with her at an out-of-the-way location. I really didn t understand why her character has issues with cell coverage areas. She likes “her” favorite running spot possibly because the cell service is so crappy. Cell phones are great, but there are times that you don t want to be bugged by anything.
(I know where I couldn t receive any calls and I d see a bunch of other people parked there for the same reason).
She finds out that her uncle has been arrested for murder and starts investigating to get evidence to prove that his innocence. It seems that the proof is a single drop of blood and a single strand of hair. (Ever hear of blood banks and/or research labs?) DNA like fingerprints aren t as infallible as the press and authorities try to imply. The same set of fIngerprints have been found across the country at the same time on two different people. Blood can also be manipulated.
Kate apparently has trust issues and claims that it s from her divorce. She needs to work on those and quit blaming stuff (stand on your own feet) on other things/people/events/et cetera.
She finds some leads and finds similarities to her uncle s case. DNA seems to be infallible (all the defense has to prove/or cause is doubt that it was planted which can be easily done).
The lead departmental detective is right about human cloning in the United States of America being illegal and researching it is also illegal. However, there are other countries where it is acceptable for both research studies to occur.
The author even manages to report one of the best ways to hide this sort of activity. Even if the potential loss of life is high, you and any others need to look at the possible gain of names, (the all important) past, the ever required history of the individual to be gained.
The typical timeline of news stories in the United States of America is 5-7 days. According to the author the illegal human cloning laboratory appears to have been in the states (this isn t where I ve heard of these sites). I d be curious to know if that was done for the story or ?

How often has a doctoral thesis been designated as stupidity by the so-called reviewing it? A lot of these people drop off the grid (as far as their peers are concerned) and if they find unscrupulous backers —their research continues. Strictly off the books and without any of the normal guidelines.
Back to the story: they have a major leak. It comes from an uniquely non-accustomed source. As the feds step in and help wrap the case up. (Yes, it takes a while, Uncle Kenny finally finds peace), just not freedom in time. Kate visits Ireland, and we learn of more books to come.
Kate seems to be finding her own center and developing into a good detective
