What would you do if your hubby gave you the worst anniversary gift ever?
Mollie McGhie is hoping for diamonds for her tenth wedding anniversary. Instead, her clueless hubby presents her with a rundown boat. She’s not impressed.
When she discovers someone murdered on board, things get even worse. Mollie hopes it will convince her husband to rethink his hare-brained scheme of sailing off into … hare-brained scheme of sailing off into the sunset. Instead, he’s more determined than ever to fix the boat up and set off to sea.
Poking her nose in where it doesn’t belong, Mollie finds herself drawn into the tight-knit community living at Palm Tree Marina in Coconut Cove, a small town on the Florida coast. She uncovers a crime ring dealing in stolen marine equipment, eats way too many chocolate bars, adopts a cat, and learns far more about sailing than she ever wanted to.
Will Mollie be able to discover who the murderer is before her nosiness gets her killed?

I started this series in the middle and am playing catch-up with this book. I really enjoyed going back to see Mollie’s first murder, even if it wasn’t her first mystery (I kinda read the prequel before this one, oops.)
This is a fun story. Mollie and Scooter are so cute together as they eat copious amounts of chocolate and bump heads over whether a sailboat has a place in their life, especially when people keep showing up dead around them.
The description of the book sets the scene perfectly, but it does leave out some of the funnier “red-head” comments and dramatic texts with Mollie’s mom.
I liked officially meeting the members of cocoanut cove, though I’d already encountered them in other books in the series. Still, it’s always nice to know more about characters, especially when you already like them.
I think the one thing I appreciated more than any other, with this book, was that I didn’t figure out who the killer was too early. Jacobson really got me on this one.
Highly recommended to fans of cozy mysteries, humor, and this series.
The scene is set perfectly; romantic dinner, candle-light, and a ten-year wedding anniversary. Mollie McGhie is expecting a gift of diamonds, perhaps a beautiful pendant, but instead, her hubby gives her a rundown sailboat. She is not happy as she doesn’t even sail!
When the boat dealer is found dead on their vessel, Mollie thinks that her queasy husband will surely put the boat on the market, but no such luck. Now she is trying to poke her nose into things in the tight-knit boating community to find the murderer while trying to convince her clueless husband to sell the boat and buy her diamonds.
This is a cozy mystery filled with humorous moments, crazy characters, a mischievous cat, one clueless husband, many twists and turns, and lots of chocolate (you have to read the book to see what I mean).

This was a cute, fun, and enjoyable cozy mystery. The murder mysteries had me thinking and guessing who the murderer was. I jumped from character to character and couldn’t put the book down until I read who was the killer. The clues were tricky!

This is a fabulous cozy that was funny as well as intriguing. I was surprised by the ending – I could not figure it out until the big reveal. I love the characters although I think a boat (without a body of course) is way better than a diamond! Either way, this is fun and I cannot wait for book #2.

Mollie is looking forward to her anniversary. Scooter makes a big mistake, which, of course, he doesn’t recognize. That leads them into a less than ship-shape, chocolate laden odyssey. The truth is out there, somewhere, and Mollie must find it. I loved the quirky characters in Mystery at the Marina and recommend it for sheer fun.

What an entertaining mystery! I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I could sympathize with Mollie over her anniversary gift from her husband. Expecting a diamond necklace, she got a run-down boat. How could he be so dense? She should’ve smacked him with the wine bottle. Worse than getting a boat–when she wasn’t a sailor and didn’t want to be–was finding a dead body inside. Ms. Jacobson’s descriptions of the boating community and boats demonstrate her experience. I love mysteries with danger and humor. A perfect combination. Looking forward to more Mollie McGhie mysteries.
A light, humorous and original cozy mystery! New author, Ellen Jacobson, debuts with protagonist Mollie McGhie, a wife who wants diamonds for her anniversary and instead gets Marjorie Jane; a dilapidated sailboat, from her husband, Scooter. The boat is moored at a marina where some fishy business appears to be going on. Mollie and Scooter are innocently trapped in the midst of some criminal activity when a man is murdered on their boat. Mollie is strong-willed and observant and soon begins to piece together who done what. There are many comical moments throughout the story as the suspect list is whittled down. I enjoyed the surprise ending. Cat lovers will like Mrs. Moto.
I reviewed an ARC provided by the author. Thank you.

Quaint and interesting mystery
I only recently got introduced to “cozy mysteries” and have found them quite enjoyable. Jacobson writes a great mystery, and it fits right in with the genre perfectly. I like the character Mollie and how her investigative skills (or nosiness) gets her in deep into her own curiosity. It all starts with the gift of an unwanted boat for her anniversary. It’s fun, and thrilling, and has that sense of quaint mysteriousness and suspense. Good and enjoyable story.
Mollie McGhie volunteers for FAROUT. She wants to be the lead reporter for them reporting on aliens and UFOs. Scooter McGhie has purchased a surprise anniversary present for Mollie — a sailboat “Marjorie Jane”. Mollie thinks Scooter is having an affair with a redhead. Then she realizes he is in love with a fixer upper sailboat. Nancy and Ted Schneider own the Palm Tree Marina where the boat is parked. After a get together at the marina, Capt Dan Thomas dead on Marjorie Jane. Mollie decides to investigate his death. She later finds Jack Holt dead in the water. This is a fun book to read even though Mollie is always looking for chocolate.
I received an advance copy of the book. This is my honest review.
was a decent mytersy that got more than a bit sidetracked by UFOs
Not my cup of tea.
This is a fabulous kickoff to an entertaining series! Reading this out of order didn’t affect my enjoyment at all.
Love Mollie – she’s so fun and her brain works in mysterious ways. The cast of characters and smooth setup of clues and red herrings are all wonderful.
An excellent read!
