What would prove to be stronger? Love, or loyalty?“Focus! Keep your eye on the ball. And no women.” Jakes du Plessis’ mantra has always held him in good stead as a professional rugby player. However, a meeting with artist Angie Summers in Denver, Colorado, hinders his well-laid plans. Past demons remind him why he’s not relationship material, and he flees back to South Africa. When Angie … to South Africa.
When Angie encounters Jakes du Plessis, she’s surprised by the stir of emotions the brawny player elicits, especially since she’s wearing another man’s ring.
Fate has other plans. Fleeing didn’t help as Angie arrives in South Africa to help her brother and, hopefully, change Jakes’ mind.
Will Jakes overcome his demons to give Angie a second chance? Will she be able to show Jakes that love can conquer all?

This is my first book by Francine Beaton that I’ve read & I will read her work again.
We have some strong quite feelings going on along the way between South African Rugby Player Jakes & artist/art therapy professional/waitress (even though for a short while whilst she’s helping her best friend Clara with her young child whilst her internship is still going on) Angie.
But what an impression both Angie & Jakes start off giving each other is quite funny well it is if you’re not the participants
Very well written with nice story line and plot. A sports romance that is enjoyable and sweet. It is different and that makes it better.
A story of a nice length. Likeable well described characters that develops through the story. Amazing chemistry and passion. I like the unexpected twists and turns. Captivating and enjoyable read. Steamy scenes that are realistic and hot. The mix of drama, secrets, passion and twists makes it a great read.
Recommendable.
I have a weak spot for sport romance and this book was a pleasant surprise. Jake and Angie make for such a wonderful couple even if at first they seemed like opposite.

A heartwarming and enjoyable slow burn romance. Jake an injured rugby player is sent to the states for therapy for his leg injury. Ange keeps literly running into Jake and there is chemistry that is slow burning, but he has a clause that he can’t start any relationships till finals. As Jesse, Ange twin brother and Jake become good friends they interact more causeing the attraction harder and harder to fight. Jake is not honest with Ange causing more heartache. A captivating read as the two fall in love but not giving in causing a rocky heartache. A good well-written, emotional read that just needs to be read.

Eye on the Ball (Playing for Glory Book 1) by Francine Beaton is a Contemporary, Sports Romance. Playing for the Springboks it’s a childhood dream for Jakes du Plessis. In order to achieve his goal, he has to stay focus and stay away from women. But when he has a chance meeting with Angie Summers, he not sure if he can keep the team’s strict vow of celibacy. A well-written, emotional read with a good, developed storyline and characters. I look forward to the next book by the author. I enjoyed reading Eye on the Ball and thought it was a short/quick one that was finished before I knew it. The romance was one that was built up throughout the entire story between Jakes (an injured rugby player from South Africa) and Angie (a good-natured klutz), which I liked. I found myself routing for them from the very beginning, but also felt like Angie should have been doing more to resolve her then/current relationship issues. Jakes’ has tons of things on his mind and is dealing with his injury issues, which I felt really bad for him about, but also really wanted him to get himself together and deal with his “Angie issues” as well. Would love be able to conquer all in this story that takes the reader from Colorado to South Africa and back? Read it and find out and you shouldn’t be disappointed in the least. An entertaining blend keep me intrigued with a good storyline, characters were great and engaging. The relationship evolves In a way that is intense and is a good read.
This was a good read. It took a while to warm up to Angie. She just seemed to just drift through life, not really there at all. She just seemed so unaware of things.
Enjoyed this sports romance about Jakes and Angie. A bit long in spots but overall a very good, entertaining romance!

I absolutely loved this book and was honored to have been able to receive an arc to read and review. It was such a phenomenal read and had amazing characters as well as an amazing story line. I just couldn’t get enough of it and once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down. I recommend that you read it.
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I loved this story about Jakes and Angie. Jakes is a Ruby player who has had a rough past and but is suffering from a leg injury. His team sent him to Denver to get treatment. While there he meets Angie, who keeps running into to him literally, even reinjuring his leg once. But even her twin Jesse and Jakes become friends and their paths start to cross more often, both realize there is something special there. Unfortunately Jakes signed an agreement with the team not to partake in any new relationships during the time up until they win the Final, so this confuses things for them. He’s fighting his feelings and but telling her why, and she things he’s got and cold and doesn’t want her. But follow them as they are tested time and time again with their growing feelings. Well written and great characters. Love the support and love shown thought the book. Definitely recommend this story.
