As a pirate, I tend to hang out with unsavory outcasts at the edges of the known universe. I’m used to running into thieves, assassins and fugitives. It shouldn’t surprise me to see a forbidden human female for sale in the tunnels of the space station, but I hate it. When I see she’s near death, I have to act.I buy her. She spits in my face. It’s love at first sight. At least, it’s love at first …
At least, it’s love at first sight on my end. I know it can never be, though, because I’m an ugly beast of an alien to her. The enemy. If only she knew just how many laws I’d be willing to break for one taste of her lips…

These two characters are my own version of Beauty And The Beast. Both have are scars some are deep and some are emotional and physical. They’re very protective of each other and there’s nothing they wouldn’t have done for one another, love both of them.
Tarekh is probably my favorite alien of the crew, and Catrin is quite the interesting human female. Theirs is most certainly a slow-burn romance. But that just makes it all the more delightful when they finally get together.
Cat is a fighter, a real survivor.
Tarekh’s big enough to be a fighter but, he’s a big tender Care Bear.
She trust no one.
But Terekh is patient, kind and easy-going.
Most touching moment-“and I vow to myself that even if i have to die- or take everyone within this universe down with me- she’s never going to know that life again”.
Terekh let’s Cat find her way but is there for her through it all. Heck, I fell in love with him!
I definitely recommend this book!
I love this story. It was a very entertaining and enjoyable story even though there were some difficult parts. The characters were interesting and relatable.
Tarek is a pirate so he tends to run into a lot of unsavory characters. While on a space station he notices slaves for sale but doesn’t plan to get involved until he notices a human female among the slaves for sale. After checking on her, Tarek realizes that her injuries may be enough that she will die, so he has to act. He buys her from the slave master and when he tells her she is coming with him, she spits in his face. Tarek decides that he likes that she is a fighter.
I loved how Tarek and Cat teased each other and played tricks on each other. The way Tarek kept telling Cat that she was safe and could be crew without having to use her body was wonderful. Cat finding out how Tarek felt about her was blush-worthy! I loved their happy ever after and I recommend reading this book. Or listening to it because that was awesome as well!
Love Ruby books!
I love this book. I love this series. Let’s be honest – I love Ruby Dixon. Yas Queen! Once again, she has taken the same concept and turned it into something totally different and refreshing. While I could rave about her talent all day, I will spare you from my fangirling. You’re welcome.
Tarek, the beastly medic of the ship, comes across a beautifully broken female slave for sale. He feels drawn to her so he buys her with hopes to set her free. Inwardly he knows that Catrin will never be free because humans are basically illegal in outer space, but he wants to give her a chance at a better life.
Of course, Catrin doesn’t believe him. Why would she after she has been treated terribly by all of the alien species? The reason she is bloodied and broken is because she is a fighter. And she is determined to fight Tarek to escape him and his ship.
So you want to know why I rated this 4 stars instead of 5, huh? It was too short. I was immensely enjoying it and then *poof* it was over. Does the book truly deserve the 4 star rating? Absolutely not; I’m just needy and needed more. I actually need more from Ruby all the time because her writing is just so good and I always hate when I finish one of her books because I didn’t want that magnificent world/story to come to an end. I am on the verge of fangirling again, so I am just going to stop here. K? K.
4 Stars!

When broken people fix each other it’s a beautiful thing. If I wasn’t fully committed before, I am now a fan of Ruby Dixon books! This story that she has written starts off with such a heartbreaking characterization of Cat and her predicament, that you can’t help but love the guy that tries to save her from it. Tarekh has his own baggage, but his is more of a social stigma kind and not the soul stealing stuff that Cat has to go through. I loved both characters from the start, and loved them more as the story progressed. There was not the violence that I love in a book, like no one died or anything, but my heart was involved right from the start. I loved this book!
