When a Laird Loves a Lady
Marion de Lacy is determined to take the control of who she marries from her diabolical father’s hands with a well thought out plan of escape. Alas, things have to be hurried along as her fiancée arrives sooner than expected. Set upon by the very person she is running from and rescued by a man she soon learns is her only hope for escape. Marion is forced to decide which of the lesser of two evils to take. Neither of which will provide the love she so longs to have.
Iain MacLeod is still reeling from the death of his beloved wife when he is summoned to England for discussions on the release of the Scottish King. He’s to suffer another blow when a condition of the King’s release is that Iain marry the daughter of a Baron, who the English King believes is in a conspiracy to overthrow the throne. Resigned to a life with a spoiled Englishwoman Iain is relieved to learn he will not have to go through with the wedding as his bride has unexpectedly died. He’s surprised to learn that the woman he comes upon being bullied in a small village is actually the cold Englishwoman he thought he would be saddled with for the rest of his life.
Evil and unscrupulous persons, a former love and misunderstandings all stand in the way of what Iain and Marion come to learn is love. These two will need all the strength and determination to accept that love and to overcome all the obstacles in their way for a happily ever after.
Julie Johnstone’s first foray into Medieval Romance is a huge hit! Ms. Johnstone captures your attention from the first paragraph and doesn’t let go until “THE END” is written. She has written Marion as a woman of strength and determination with an inner heart in need of love. Iain is the loyal, family oriented Scottish Laird who has little problem accepting what he must for the sake of his family and King. Then she throws in twists and turns but don’t get comfortable thinking you know who the bad person is…she’ll throw you for a loop. Not only are her hero and heroine characters interesting, she also writes her secondary characters in a way that will have you dying for their story without taking away from the hero and heroine.
Wicked Highland Wishes
Bridgette MacLean’s heart belongs to one man and has for many years but guilt has her compelled to face a life married to another man. When a seer foretells of a great divide between these two men, a divide that leads to the death of one the other bent on vengeance Bridgette seeks to prevent this from happening. What she doesn’t foresee is the threat to her life and the very love she’s determined to protect and what it will cost her.
Lachlan MacLeod is a warrior of honor; a warrior whose motto is always “family first”. A motto that has him placing his brother’s wants (a brother who harbors great resentment towards Lachlan) before his own and letting him pursue the one woman Lachlan cannot forget. Amidst his duty to the King, an unwanted fiancée, and a threat to his family’s land Lachlan realizes this is a love he’s not willing to give up on. Which is a good thing as he will need that belief in love and patience to overcome harrowing events.
My, oh my, oh my!! Julie Johnstone has written a riveting tale of love, the desire to do what’s right and throws in some curve balls I didn’t see coming all to great effect. Bridgette is a strong heroine who goes through ordeals that would truly break a lesser woman. I bawled at what she goes through then bawled some more as she comes out even stronger. And Lachlan? I wasn’t prepared to fall hopelessly in love with this hero! His adoration, love and patience is what true heroes are made of.
This is one of those rare stories that will sit with you long after you have read it. Outstanding job, Ms. Johnstone!!
(Side note: this story contains parts that are not a favorite trope but in this – it works and makes the love between the hero and heroine that much sweeter.)
Christmas in a Scot’s Arms
The talented Julie Johnstone takes her Medieval series (Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts) and brings it forward to the year 1815.
Liam MacLeod, descendant of Iain and Marion MacLeod, is now Laird and visiting London to meet with his sister’s intended when he comes to the rescue of Miss Cecelia Cartwright.
Miss Cecelia Cartwright has the misfortune of ruined reputation, a father who put the family in financial ruin and a mother who demands Cecelia must marry for money. Which makes her encounter with the impoverished Laird Liam MacLeod hard to bear as she is fascinated by the Scotsman.
Ms. Johnstone does a remarkable job giving us a glimpse into the future for descendants from her amazing Highlander Vows series!
When a Highlander Loses His Heart
He was the enemy of her family.
Isobel Campbell may have grown up in a convent but she was sure of two things – 1) her father loved her and 2) the MacLeod clan were the enemy. Now she is free of the convent, of an age to marry and take control of the castle she inherits from her grandmother; what she soon learns challenges everything she’s believed.
She was his means to revenge.
Graham MacLeod grew up feeling like he had to prove himself; a fact that almost destroyed him. Now he’s learned from his mistakes but that does not prevent him from wanting the Campbell’s to pay for what they did to his family. Kidnapping the daughter of his enemy seems to be the perfect plan until she proves to be more than he bargained for.
Can people from two warring clans find love or will their families come between them?
Julie Johnstone has written another AMAZING hit in her third installment of her Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts series. Even though Isobel has lived her life in a convent she is a smart, strong, determined, compassionate heroine. When she finds everything she believed in was false she stands strong. Graham – smart, brave, and a huge clot-heid.
Ms. Johnstone does an excellent job providing backstory so When a Highlander Loses His Heart can be read as a stand-alone (but believe me if you haven’t read the first two you are missing out on two superb stories).
