Even the Dark Queen can’t change destiny.Tabitha has so much to learn about living with a family, and she makes her grandfather and cousins terribly uncomfortable when she doesn’t fit in. She was punished for looking free people in the eyes all her life, so it’s understandable she has trouble learning to maintain eye contact. And making decisions is impossible — from what she wants for breakfast, … from what she wants for breakfast, to when she’s tired enough for bed, and everything in between.
Her grandfather’s horses don’t judge, and working with them finally helps her begin to find a path towards figuring out this new life, where clothes must be worn all day, every day.
Just when she’s resigned herself to this life and is certain she’ll never enjoy sex again, an invitation arrives to attend one of the Winter Queen’s balls — along with a fancy gown that raises more questions than answers.
Lady is book two in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy, and should be read in the correct order.

Ohhh, this just got better and better!
We start with Tabby learning to be a free person, finding her way, being her own person. She can’t get what she needs, so she figures she will live without. Then she gets invited back to attend a ball with her beloved Queen. There is an offer to be with her Queen again, but Tabby has to learn to balance not being a slave with submitting. She was so happy at the castle before, but now things have changed. She is one of the people in charge, except with her Queen, and then, again, only in certain circumstances
Queen Mab has to change too, as she sometimes slips into her previous role with her previous relationship with Tabby. The addition of Rowen adds even more swirls in the muddy water
Lots of magic, enchantment, and a couple of wolves, and a promise at the end that things are going to switch up again. This paranormal series has me wanting more as soon as I finish, and has me finishing it all once I start – so I absolutely, completely, love it!
This book had me squirming my butt off while reading it !!! its sooooo good, and we are only half way through 🙂 more to come and I can’t wait. I love how the story is evolving and you would guess that this is the best it can be, but Candace has more cards at her sleeve. also any book that has other characters of Candace book realm like our favorite dragon 🙂 is a GOLDEN STAR book in my library … OMG can’t wait for the next book aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
First off, I want to mention that this series does need to be read in order, reader beware.
Tabby’s story continues as she finds out she is a Lady, leave it to Queen Mab to make the transition as smooth as possible for her Little One.
I love that Tabby finds her confidence, she gets stronger as a person and lo and behold she even finds her magic, with the help of her Queen of course. Queen Mab wants Tabby in her life, she fills a need for her (I’m so glad we got to see this side of the Queen) and of course Tabby has been yearning for her as well.
I am very intrigued as to how Rowan will fit in the storyline, should be very interesting.
Don’t forget this is the 2nd installment in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale series. I highly recommend it, you will get a story with complex characters, a storyline that just sucks you in, and let’s not forget a Queen that knows how to wield a whip.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I always eagerly anticipate a new release from Candace Blevins and it doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s one of her urban fantasies, paranormal romances, or her safeword series, each and every story is carefully crafted and delivers on impact (pun intended) time and time again.
“Lady” is the second story that exclusively takes place in the faerie realm and it’s another decadent treat. Having read many of Ms. Blevins books (not necessary for this series), I’m already familiar with the Winter Queen and it was with great delight (I might have squeed) when I found out she was getting her own story in all her wicked yumminess. In story 2, we get much more of Tabatha as she takes on responsibilities and navigates the tenuous world of court politics.
As with all her books, Ms. Blevins delivers on her characters and the details. Queen Mab has an amazing “soft” side (said carefully) and even a touch of the romantic in her; all while she’s juggling the politics and administrative duties that come with being a queen and giving her pleasure slave exactly what she craves. And Tabatha is turning out to be an amazing character with a depth to her that could only be possible with her history as a pleasure slave.
“Lady” is book two in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy and it’s an amazing continuation to this series.
This cannot be read as a stand-alone, you must read Slave first.
Tabby has to learn how to live as a free person, making her own choices, and with a family for the first time in her life. It is a sad time for Tabby and a happy time. She misses her Queen terribly yet likes having a family. Her conflict between how her life was and how her life is now is shown quite well. Once she starts becoming secure in her actions, Mab throws her for a loop and invites her to the Winter Ball with a special dress (to coordinate with Mab’s gown).
We learn so much more about Mab in this book. She wants Tabby as a lover and girlfriend. Tabby has to step up in order fill that need. Can she do it – be what Mab needs and find fulfillment in that role while still maintaining her free personhood and family ties? What about Rowan? How will he figure into their relationship?
I am really looking forward to the next book!
Lady starts off right after Slave leaves off. Tabby is no longer the dark Queen’s treasured little One. As Queen Mab’s slave, Tabby’s only decision is to obey her Mistress. Tabby loved the safety of being in Mab’s arms and more importantly, her role in life. When it is discovered she should have never been a slave and Mab sends her back into her family’s arms, it breaks Tabby’s heart.
This is a difficult book for me. Some may think that maybe the amount of sex is too much in one reading. It isn’t. I loved the sex. The kink in here is fantastic. My appetite for darkish kink increased and continues to increase with Ms. Blevins. My issue with the book isn’t with the slave Blue either. Quite frankly, I loved how Blue is enslaved and all the hard lessons he learns. My issue is with forcing Tabby into a role she does not want and then making her become a dominant in ways that she isn’t comfortable with.
When I read this section in the Radish app, I had issues because I felt that it was unfair to force Tabby to be a whored out slave in private and in the public be so damn strong. Basically, every man’s dream, right? A Lady in public and a whore in the bedroom with no one the wiser? I get that Tabby is a masochist and loves to please. I love this about her. I get that to be with Mab, she needs to be strong in her own ways and a partner. The extreme dichotomy of what Mab wants is what aggravated me to no end. Because it feels like Tabby needs to be a split personality. It is too easy to blur the lines. Specifically, I think it is too much to ask Tabby to be a lady and the responsibility could crush her if she isn’t up to it.
Someone pointed out to me, maybe it is because I am upset Tabby is being forced to be a switch. I think this is the key. Because for me, I’m a switch out of necessity and I don’t like it at times. So perhaps I feel badly for Tabby because I understand the difficult of what is being asked of her and at times, I find it exhausting. As a person who is innately a perfectionist and wanting to please, to have to forcefully make the choices/decisions that may ultimately disappoint or be against the one you love the most is in a word – devastating. It feels as if Tabby is being set up for failure and one of my pet peeves is to set someone up for failure.
In this revised version, I see the difference that appease my sensitivity to these hang ups. More time is spent developing Tabby and empowering her to grow into her Ladyship. It is subtle and I can’t exactly point out the passage that are different. I can affirm that I felt better about Tabby’s forced growth from an owned object to a freewoman. And from a slave to a Lady. I am eagerly looking forward to the next book. I can’t wait to see more of Tabby’s sweet suffering under Mab’s tenderly cruel whims. I can’t wait to see how Blue’s love for Tabby is resolved because he can’t have her. Tabby is Mab’s! This dark erotica is highly recommended to kinky readers who love redemption themes and coming of age themes.
*I received an advanced copy
I wasn’t sure I still believed in fairy tales until Ms. Blevins easily turned me into a devotee of her Dark(ish) Faerie Tales with the first in the series: Slave.
Now in Lady the second one we once again meet Lady Tabitha still learning how to be a freeperson and Royalty at that. Then there is that moment when she see Mab and it’s awesome!
Oh yes it is still a very dark novel and will appeal to anyone with even a bit of love of sadism and masochism because along with their romance S&M drives the story. How can you not love it like I do?
If you read Slave then you know you will have to read Lady or you will miss out on something magnificent.
The second part of the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale quadrilogy continues to draw readers along in the suspenseful and heartfelt story of Tabitha’s change in lifestyle. It would be hard for any person to imagine such a life but the author’s detail-orientated descriptions, she brings it such vivid life and ensures that readers can relate to the characters and really become caught up in all the emotional turmoil that they face in their various situations and of course readers can’t practically feel the burn as the intense passion and electrical chemistry flow the pages of the romance between Tabitha and the Dark Queen. Of course, the Dark Queen’s court is full of hot and erotic scenes, so readers get such a dark and sensual thrill from the story as well. With each change in Tabitha’s life and each decision made, readers get caught up in the anticipation of the story and they have to keep turning the pages.
