3.5 stars–AMBITIOUS DRIVE is the first of six instalment in Kassandra Klay’s contemporary adult AMBITION erotic romance serial focusing on Kerrington Holding Investments finance manager, Alexandria Weston, and owner Kreed Kerrington.
Told from first person point of view (Alexandria Weston) AMBITIOUS DRIVE follows the building but forbidden relationship between boss and employee. With the upcoming retirement of their boss Henry McMillian, Alexandria and her co-worker Nick Adler are in direct competition to fill the position of Director of Finance and Accounting. Enter Kreed Kerrington, owner of Kerrington Holding Investments, the man in charge, and the man about to change Alexandria’s future. A chance meeting, at a new high end restaurant finds Kreed falling for our story line heroine. Fearing professional repercussions if their relationship is ever found out, Alexandria and Kreed agree to keep their affair on the down-low but keeping secrets is next to impossible as Nick Adler refuses to back down.
We are introduced to Alexandria’s best friend, corporate attorney Charity Sinclair, and her boyfriend, celebrity chef Ricardo, as well as accounting manager Nick Adler, a man determined to make Alexandria his own.
AMBITIOUS DRIVE introduces the players and outlines the potential for disaster as two people make a run for the top knowing only one will make it in the end. Threats are promised, war is waged, hearts are caught between right and wrong. The writing style is simplistic; the $ex scenes are erotic and intense -similar in concept and stylization as many other erotic romance novels including language and text; the characters are colorful and interesting; the world building hints at things to come.
In all fairness, it is difficult to review a serialized story line (a full-length story divided into smaller instalments ). The writing style rarely changes due in part to the fact that a serialized story is a full-length story divided into smaller instalments; the world building usually continues at the same pace until something important violates the calm, therefore the only real changes occur with the unfolding of the story line events and the possible growth of the main characters which are revealed as the story moves along. A review with the final instalment is what will be necessary to acknowledge a complete breakdown of the serial with reference to emotional depth, pacing, concept and engagement, as well as grammar, editing and errors.
So many similarities to a book/movie I have seen before
Alex seems to be in a bind when it comes to her career and her personal life. Her co-worker Nick is a sure psychopath and a certified sleaze ball who needs to be behind bars.
The sex scenes are spicy and realistic, but the wat it camr about and the exchange between Alen and Kreed ( which is an interesting choice in a name) are a little to forced for my taste.
The plot did keep me wondering what was going to happen next. I mean, after all Nick showing up at the private get together is going to causensome friction. Alex at some point will have to tell Kreed all about the strange run ins and Kreed seems like the protective sort and has the finacial means to make or break a person. I get the notion that the promotion has already been decided upon and they will have crazy man on their hands who was slighted and lost his career, blaming the two people who are in a taboo relationship. I may even pick up the next book just to satisfy my curiosity because book 1 was left on a cliff hanger.
Okay first things first, This is one of a series. I do not like that it feels like it’s only a couple of chapters long. Actually I totally hate that. BUT I do love what Klay has done. So far I am engaged in the characters and curious about certain aspects. The sex scene between Alex and Kreed is hawt!! Haven’t really gotten a feel for Alex’s best friend Charity or her boyfriend. Nick, though! I seriously would go bat ish crazy on that guy. Watching Alex try to work out a way to be with Kreed and not lose certain aspects of her life is interesting.
So even though this is a VERY short book (only 41 pages) I am looking forward to reading the next one. I would not have been quite so happy if I had to wait several months in between releases. If I was Kassandra Klay I would re-release all 4 books into just one. But that is just my opinion. I am interested to see what books 2-4 bring. Thankfully they are all released.
First of all don’t be surprised this is a fast read. It is a great story and I love just how real it can be. A woman facing crap in the work place by a co-worker. Yup you got it. He is the epitome of a jerk and yup has her in his sights. OK enough said. I like this woman she has balls and stands up to him, well kinda. Don’t forget the hot number coming after her. Since this is one of those episode things there is a cliff hanger, it doesn’t take away from it being a really good start to this whole thing. I do want more and can’t wait to see what happens next. Thank goodness I don’t have to wait!
I haven’t read this author before so this is a great chance to enjoy her style and do it with a quickness. I will most definitely be checking out more.
