When a Lady Desires a Wicked Lord by Tara Kingston is book Three in the Her Majesty’s Most Secret Service series. This is the story of Benedict Weston, Viscount Marlsbrook and Alexandra Quinn. I have read the previous books but feel this can easily be a standalone book.
Alexandra and Benedict has a history together where they fell in love. But Benedict ended up trying to undo the money lost his father cause which took him in another direction from Alexandra. Alexandra was heartbroken by Benedict and now all these years later he turns up to save her. Alexandra is a Egyptologist who life is now in danger and Benedict is there to protect her. But can these to move forward and have their love at last?
Loved this book!
This book was a quick read as it held my interest.
Alexandra Quinnis an expert in translating hieroglyphics. Someone thinks she has been sent a map that will lead to treasure in Egypt. That puts her in grave danger. Her problem is, who is the bad guy that has been killing people for the map???.
Among the suspects is the man she was once engaged to.
Benedict Weston needs the money from the artifacts he finds to get his family estate out if debt. Just how far will he go to do that??
A romantic, murder/ mystery for us and our characters to solve. Our brave and independent by heroine will go to any lengths to find the villain.
An entertaining historical adventure.
This was the third book in Ms. Kingston’s Her Majesty’s Most Secret Service series. I have not read the first two books yet; but rest assured, this can be read as a standalone with no confusion whatsoever. As a matter of fact, I bought this author’s other books because this one was so much fun.
Alexandra and Benedict had a past, and things didn’t end well. They were reunited in the explosive opening of this story. There was a series of mysterious deaths. Was Benedict involved? Was Benedict and/or Alex in danger? The hunt for answers quickly commences, in order to thwart any more tragedies. Even though Alex and Benedict loved each other, I didn’t feel it was a sure thing that would be enough for their HEA. I liked that there was suspense throughout the entire story.
I received this book courtesy of NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
London 1892. The author captured my attention from the first page and did not let go until the end. The well developed characters of Alexandra Quinn and Benedict Weston came to life and seemed very realistic for the era. One of my favorite subjects of Egyptology had a hugh part in this intriguing story of mystery, murder and a second chance at love. Alex is an amazing Egyptologist that has first hand knowledge of the value and importance of the artifacts found. At home in England she is unexpectedly attacked by an intruder looking for a map that she supposedly was entrusted. Frantic to get away she is saved my none other than Benedict Weston, a man from her past who had crushed her young heart. Benedict has come back to England from Egypt with the express purpose of saving Alex from a killer he knew was after her for information. Or was that the only thing he wanted? After all he had left her years ago for greed it seemed. The emotions between them are sizzling and you will be taken on an intense journey of discovery that will keep you turning the pages as fast as you can. This is the third story in a series but can be read alone. But why would you want to do that? This book was excellent and I intend to go back and read the rest! Tara Kingston has written a fabulous story that will sweep you away to another time!!!

Benedict Weston, Viscount Marlsbrook, never wanted to be a hero. For years, he’s plundered antiquities in his quest to restore his family’s debt-ridden estate. This is the third book in the series & whilst it could be read on its own, the first two books only add to the enjoyment of this page turning book. As well as romance there’s a mystery that needs to be solved & a murderer to find. Alex is independent, strong willed & intelligent but she’s also loved Benedict for years. Benedict had a difficult childhood & is determined his almost bankrupt viscountcy will prosper. The book grabbed me from the first page when Alex was attacked in her own home, that set the pace for the book which flowed right until the end. The characters are very well fleshed & I love Alex & Benedict, although I wanted to shake him at times however I forgave him all when he gave Alex the statue. Another engrossing page turner from the author.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This very good novel starts off with her in the study, she starts to hear noises and knows she is not alone. He stalks her and she is forced to shoot him, he is wearing body armor. Benedict Weston, Lord Marlsbrook, came to her assistance when she is attacked in her house. Benedict and Alexandra had once been in love. But he had deserted her and gone to Egypt for several years. This book definitely kept my attention. Everybody seems to be an Egyptian authority. Benedict, I would not trust anything he said or did. He always seems to have an ulterior motive. I think he is a scoundrel and not trustworthy. She always seems to be nice and sweet except to scoundrels.
I like the book and found it had danger, murder, and intrigue. The author did a great job with this story, it was well written, coherent and easy to read. Her characters were very lifelike and in tune with each other to a degree. I highly recommend this tale and look forward to reading more of her books.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it. (less)
