Oscar Lozada is repulsive, and he likes it that way. His apartment is always a wreck, he works at a sewage plant, and he’s an abrasive jerk to just about everyone. When he’s not out drinking and hooking up with strangers, he trolls people on the Internet for lulz. His life changes when he finds out a victim of his trolling lives right next door. Noah is super hot and disarmingly nice. In spite of … of himself, Oscar starts to fall for him. All he has to do is make sure Noah never discovers the truth behind his trollish ways.
This edition includes the follow-up short story, The Pink Wedding.

I love to discover new authors so when I received this book as an ARC I jumped to the opportunity to read it. And what a book!!! Really, the story of Oscar and Noah and how they met and fell in love is sweet and endearing, with some angst just to shake Oscar’s world but at the end and after a whole box of tissues everything settled just fine. I enjoyed especially how the author described the characters’ situation, and how, as the book advanced you can feel the characters’ despair, hope, love and many other emotions masterfully written. Brilliant!!!
This book is a gem!!! It’s so deep and interesting and also really really funny! The storyline was unique and the main characters were special and well developed and had amazing chemistry. The side characters were brilliant too. I honestly enjoyed every word and I’m looking forward to read the sequel. The ending was so satisfying and it warmed my heart and I really loved it
Oh this was a cute story. Oscar was definitely a troll. And boy did he get a meet-cute! Noah was so adorable and I couldn’t help but love Oscar, he was so gruff, you just knew there was something there. It was such a great start to a romance. I would recommend this novella.
At the beginning of The Troll Whisperer, Oscar was hateful. He knew it, he loved it and he would bask in the knowledge of it. To then slowly reveal the reasons behind his trolling, the screwed up ways his heart has chosen to protect itself. And I think it was kind of adorable how he tried to resist Noah…until he couldn’t resist anymore. Because even the ugliest troll needs understanding and love, right?
This is a cute, funny and sweet reading. Recommended.
Audiobook review.

A really good story, very good narration.
I ended up really liking this audiobook. But TBH, I had a difficult time at first. It sounded like it was written in first person POV but it wasn’t. I think it was because I had just read a first person POV story right before listening to this one and I didn’t leave enough time between them for my mind to make the shift.
After the first couple of chapters I really got into the story and enjoyed it a lot. Oscar isn’t a nice guy – at all. After tormenting Noah online, he finds out that he lives in the same apartment complex. They eventually fall for each other but Oscar doesn’t tell Noah what he’s done in the past. When Noah finds out who Oscar really is and what he’s done he is heartbroken. He eventually forgives Oscar after he comes clean publicly online.
After we find out what Oscar went through in high school it helped to understand why he became the troll that he was. But Noah tamed him, because just being around Noah changed Oscar; he became a better person.
This is the first book I’ve read by Sera Trevor and the first audiobook I’ve listened to by Michael T. Bradley. I liked her writing and I really enjoyed his style of narration. I enjoyed the various voices he did for each of the characters.
The Pink Wedding is a great epilogue and is included in this audiobook. It was originally available as an ebook separately from The Troll Whisperer but I believe they’ve been combined into one book now.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
Oscar Lozada is a troll. Not one of those trolls that hides under a bridge and demands a toll before you can cross. He worst than that. He’s the kind of troll that hides behind anonymous accounts and attacks others for the pure vicious pleasure of causing other people pain. Oscar is hurting so deeply himself that his only dysfunctional coping method is to lash out at others, and he has no intention of ever stopping. Until he meets Noah. Sweet, gentle Noah with his ASMR videos and laundry duties. A troll has no power against true love, and soon Oscar finds not only his life, but his heart, changing in ways he could never imagine.
Hands down, I fell in love with this book. This book had angst, fluff, romance, hot sex, and so much humor and love. For a short book, it dealt with some difficult issues in a masterful way. Although the main focus of the story was the romance, the plot was deeper than just that. It examined relationships from many different angles. Oscar had to revaluate and take a look at his relationships not only with Noah, but also with his family, his friends, his work, the internet, and himself. Oscar’s pain broke my heart, but his healing and redemption made me feel joyful – I’m not ashamed to say I squealed in delightful celebration at certain moments near the end.
Michael T. Bradley narrated the audiobook and did a phenomenal job. One of the first things I notice with narrators is whether I can differentiate the characters based on the narrator’s voices and if the narrator is consistent with the voices. Bradley did a great job on all fronts. His character voices were distinct and dynamic – I could feel the emotions in his performance. I definitely recommend this audiobook, especially for anyone who wants an interesting romantic comedy.
Plus, the short story, The Pink Wedding, was included in this audiobook as a bonus. The Pink Wedding was just as wonderful and funny as the rest of the book, and definitely a wonderful addition to this audiobook.
Oscar is not a nice person in the beginning a pretty nasty hateful person. Noah is going to college and has run away from his strict family on the East Coast.
This has some funny and sad and the journey these two had to get their HFN. I definitely recommend this book!
Oscar is a troll. No, not literally, but figuratively, as in one of those asshats who goes online and purposely stirs people up in really obnoxious, disgusting ways. And make no bones about it, in person he’s disgusting, too. He lives in filth, doesn’t care that his apartment is gross, in fact revels in it.
And then he meets his new neighbor and somehow falls for the sweetheart, who is his opposite in every way. But Oscar has a huge secret and if (when) Noah finds out that secret, it will surely be the end of them. So the troll will just keep his mouth shut until he absolutely has to tell his secret. Until perhaps someone else spills for him. And ruins the budding relationship, and Oscar goes back to his disgusting ways. How very unfortunate…
I have to admit, that Oscar put me off this story for a good portion of it. But I could tell there was a reason he was the way he was, and when it was revealed, I felt for him. Not enough to say I ever actually loved him the way I did Noah, but still, his backstory was pretty tragic and went far in tempting me to seeing his way of things. I ended up liking this story. Noah is so sweet and adorable and lovely, and he got his happiness even if perhaps the man who made him happy was maybe not quite worthy of him.
Oscar’s inspiration? Oscar the Grouch or Oscar from the Odd Couple? Or a little of both???
This was a hard book to get into but I promise so worth it. Get past the repulsiveness of Oscar Lozada: mean, slob, sewage worker, malicious internet troll, dirty and gay. His San Diego apartment is a pig sty and he has been threatened with eviction. When unsavory things happen to him, he retaliates by getting on the internet and harassing others. He’s not biased as to whom he attacks either. To a religious fundamentalist he can be an atheist. Or on a gay site he can be the religious zealot or homophobe. His intent is to injure. One night a friend sends him a YouTube link and he decides to mess with the young man in the video. Oscar succeeds. He hurts the guy’s feelings.
Days later who should Oscar meet in his apartment laundry room? Yep, Noah, the guy from the YouTube video. Thing is Oscar would like to get to “know” Noah a little better. They hit it off and soon Noah is doing his laundry for him, for a fee. It appears that Noah is going to college and has run away from his family on the East Coast. Oscar is happy to see Noah is gay or at least curious. Oscar is commitment-phobic and can’t accept the fact that he might like Noah more than he wants. Will Noah find out that Oscar is the man who made ugly remarks about his video? Will we find out about Oscar’s friends and family or what made him so mean? Yes, yes and yes. Along with some steamy moments when Noah comes out to Oscar.
Like I said, if you can get through the beginning of this book, you will be rewarded with a great story of redemption. Plus, there is another little story tacked on to the end, “The Pink Wedding.” There were some funny moments, some sad moments, some poignant moments, some “fist-pump” moments and a happy-for-now ending. Remember, the author has so-well written a despicable character that you will need to know that he does become redeemed. Along the way we meet some significant people to Oscar’s story: Jeremy, Crystal and his family.
I volunteered to review this book through Gay Romance Reviews and I give it 4.5 wonderful stars.
Oscar Lozada hides his pain under a terrible personality. He trolls through the internet just for fun. When he hits on one of his trolling victims, will he realize the error of his ways? Noah is a sweetheart, too much after all he has been through. I like how he is so genuine and caring. He falls for Oscar, warts and all, and breaks down his walls. I also like that the story is not all rosy colored, the characters had big flaws but they also have tender hearts. And the Lozada curse it’s funny… and scary lol
The Troll Whisperer by Sera Trevor is the first book in the Troll Whisperer series. The story is fun, hilarious – with a good mix of drama and romance. I really liked Oscar and Noah together, the story is told through Oscar’s point of view and was really interesting to get into his mind space and the changes that come over him after meeting Noah. I really enjoyed this and am so excited to read book two.
Hurt man attacks others; has he found a reason to stop?
4-4.5stars
Oscar the social media troll is a great, layered character whose troubled personal history is slowly and grudgingly revealed after he meets Noah, a sweet neighbor who’s fled his strict upbringing. There’s a lot of sweetness to their connection, but there’s plenty of heat too. All of the secondary characters added to their story and even Oscar’s hardline apartment manager had her sympathetic side.
The writing was good, the plot was focused and moved at a good pace, and I loved learning where Oscar’s anger originated and seeing him open up and transform. Oscar’s wrecked apartment seemed to reflect his inner mess and his ambivalence about cleaning up his living quarters a good metaphor for his attitude toward fronting up to his emotional issues.
I really enjoyed this story and will be looking for more works by this talented author.
