What do you do if love can’t blossom? Abigail Bryant is the youngest of the Bryant tribe, and the most ignored – which is just how she likes it. Tending her herb garden is the way that she can support the growing town without talking too much to anyone, but the arrival of the new doctor demands a different kind of herb, and she needs seeds. Enter Laken Weston, a travelling tinker who refuses to … travelling tinker who refuses to put down roots but has the exact seeds that Abigail needs, along with the know-how to get them to grow. Her embarrassment almost overcomes her, but they strike a deal: he stays for the growing season, and he receives free bed and board. And then he leaves.
But affection, like their seeds, finds a warm and welcoming home, and soon love starts to blossom between them. But like any new plant, without God’s face to smile upon it, that growth can wither and die.
Abigail’s fear and Laken’s restlessness threaten to become the weeds that may smother any joy that may thrive between them, and without the support of Sweet Grove and the faith they cling to, they may never see love blossom.

This book is a gentle historical romance that touched my heart and left me with a warm feeling. Abigail is the youngest and quietest of her family, but she nevertheless has an important role to play as she nurtures her herb garden. When the rolling stone Laken Weston visits their small community and discovers that Abigail needs some rare herb seeds, he finds himself being drawn into the Bryant family life despite his vow never to settle. Abigail finds out that Laken has secrets that have hurt him deeply, making her recognise in him a kindred spirit. It is only when Laken is instrumental in changing the course of a disaster that he can finally accept that there may just be a place for him. I enjoyed this book as it is clean and well written, and can be read by any age group. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I’ve loved this entire series of the beginning of Sweet Grove. I’m sad to see it come to an end. But, Abigail & Laken’s story brought a beautiful end to The Bryant’s and Sweet Grove. Emily Murdoch writes wonderful characters with charm and sass. Her heroines are strong (sometimes silent) and her heroes are in need of some clarity and love. I highly recommend Love’s Blossom as well as all of the books in this series.
Nice ending to this series! The last of the Bryant family to find love was Abigail. I loved her love for her family and enthusiasm for plants. She was strong enough to stand for what she wanted. Laken had been seen in previous stories, and I was curious as to his story. I am glad that he finally had his time and I learned more about his past. The struggles of both tugged at my heart, and I had tears as the story came to a close. I recommend the series and this story.
I received a copy of this book as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
Sweet Grove, Texas, Is Growing!
The youngest girl of the family who runs the Orchard, comes into her own, as she has become an excellent gardener, especially with her knowledge of herbs. But, she presumes she’ll never marry, though she longs for what her brothers and sister have. Laken Weston, arrives back in town, just when Abigail and her brother-in-law are discussing a needed herb for the medicines he makes. Thus begins a bargain for seeds, that ends up a reluctant summer stay for Laken. This is an exciting story, woven skillfully by the author, and a wonderful story is the result. You will definitely want to read this book! It will draw you in, and keep you reading until the end.
Set in 1840 Sweet Grove, Texas this is another wonderful story in the Sweet Grove Beginnings Series.
Can love grow like a garden when it is nurtured? This special story shows that anything is possible. Abigail Bryant is the youngest of the Bryant siblings and truly has a green thumb. Quietly tending her garden, she is asked to grow a herb for the new doctor. Laken Weston, a traveling salesman has just the seeds that Abigail requires and can help her learn to grow the herb. So a bargain is struck and Laken agrees to say in town for the growing season for free room and board. Soon they become to care for each other but Laken is use to being on the road and moving on. Can Laken settle down and become the man he needs to be for Abigail? This was such an emotional story that tugs at the heart and makes you believe all things are possible.
I love the Sweet Grove series and this one in the series is so heartwarming and a look at two hearts that were drawn together Laken Weston was a traveling salesman and he had been coming through Sweet Grove for the pass ten years and he had watched Abigail Bryant grown from a child to a beautiful young woman with her family looking after her and she them from the outside in they looked perfect. He couldn’t keep himself away from her and when he heard her and her brother in-law asking about and herb and she had not heard of it he stepped in and explained that he could provide the seed and by the summer there should be a harvest, so Abigail told him that if he stayed that she would give him a quarter of the crop so that he could take with him. Laken had no desire to stay in Sweet Grove because he was foot loose and fancy free, but there was something about this young woman that drew him to her and he was a person who could not just sit in silence. This made the men in her family some what angry in the things coming out of his mouth which also upset Abigail even though he tried to explain he didn’t do it on purpose. The Bryant family believed that God blessed them with all that they had and would have, that was part of what drew Laken to Abigail she was so pure and always sang hymns while she worked in the garden and she had such a clear and beautiful voice. It seemed that the Lord had sent Laken to them and in away he did because he was needed just at the right time. It is so beautiful and sweet. I was given a copy of this book as a gift from the author. I am providing an honest review without obligation.
I was gifted a copy of this book. Abigail Bryant is the youngest of the Bryant clan. She is shy and feels neglected by her family. Her time is spent in her garden, growing herbs for the local doctor or other inhabitants of Sweet Grove. Laken Weston is the travelling trader or tinker who comes through Sweet Grove twice a year selling his wares. When Dr. Anderson needs a special herb for one of his medicines that Abigail has never heard of, Laken comes to the rescue.
I was hesitant about the character of Laken Weston. He has appeared in the other books in this series and not in such a good light. But as with many real people, there is a whole lot of depth to Laken that can be easily overlooked by quick judgement. And there are twists and turns in this story that I didn’t expect. This is a great series of sweet romance books. Even though this book can be read as a standalone, there are so many characters that it makes more sense to read it as a series.
Emily Murdoch’s done it again! And this story is definitely my favorite in the series. What a pity it is the last one but as the author says, one can start again with the first one and carry on from there.
Abigail is the ‘green thumb’ sister of the family and in order to get her hands quickly on some needed seeds she strikes up a deal or rather a bargain with Laken Weston, the traveling man and their love story begins.
There is a very sad part in this story – really, it had me sobbing, but alls well that ends well and I will say that our author definitely had me going there for a moment with tears streaming down my face.
The story is a clean one and the words flow beautifully from one scene to the next and it is written so that you just want to find out what is going to happen next.
I loved the interaction between all the siblings and their spouses as well as what was going on between Abigail and Laken.
It is a well written story that touched my heart and it should definitely be read!
I requested and received an advance copy of this book and this is my voluntary and unbiased review of it.
