Where I Belong (2018) by Heather B. Moore is the second book in her Pine Valley series. This book comes in all forms including eBook, and is 230 pages in length. With a full-time job and a busy, busy five-year old, this book took me ONE day to read. I received a copy of this novel in eBook form from Mirror Press Publishing. In no way has this influenced my opinion of the story. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. I give Where I Belong 5 STARS. This book is a Contemporary Clean Romance.
Where I Belong is an excellent clean romance. I loved every minute of it, and could not bear to put it down. Cinderella retellings are some of my most favorite stories ever, and this one does not disappoint!
This novel begins with “Prince Charming” — a.k.a. Cameron — at his engagement party. It turns out that his princess isn’t all she is cracked up to be. In fact, Crystal is just plain awful. She is manipulative, sneaky, underhanded, and condescending. I instantly took a great dislike to her character and could not wait for her to exit stage right so the real princess could make her entrance! But, I will say that Ms. Moore does a fantastic job of using this villain well. Twice, Crystal manipulates and twists situations that I just did not see coming. These moments added such great tension to the story line, but they were so much more than that. Crystal symbolizes that which is too good to be true. Cameron was dazzled by Crystal (probably why Ms. Moore named her Crystal) and jumped into something simply because of what it looked like. This is a good reminder to us all — let’s make sure to do our research first before we jump into a new home, new relationship, new job, etc. It’s very easy to be sucked in by the glitz and glitter of that thing that looks perfect. But, we should make sure that it is first, or we risk getting burned like Cameron did in this book!
The romance between Jane and Cameron is perfect. Jane is Cameron’s cleaning lady. They actually start out as friends trying to help each other out, which I thought made the story sweeter. As they get to know one another, Cameron realizes that Jane is the real deal, but he struggles to trust the situation. He doesn’t want to jump into something like he did with Crystal, so he is extra cautious. I rooted for Jane and Cameron the entire time! Jane is sweet and hard working and loyal and genuinely kind. She is a really excellent heroine! Jane is definitely the princess that Cameron is seeking. AND, the kisses!!! The kisses are so sweet and innocent and passionate all at the same time. Jane and Cameron are a fantastic fictional couple in every way, and I am sad my time with them is over.
Where I Belong is a great story that I cannot recommend enough. It definitely made my heart happy! If you are looking for a clean romance that is fast-paced, highly engaging, and completely adorable then Where I Belong is the book for you.
Sweet romance. I liked the main characters and their down to earth personalities. I also liked the secondary characters. The ex girl friend was really something. Love to hate her. And I loved all the elderly folks in the story. So sweet. The book is short. The romance moves pretty quickly. It is a nice escape romance read.
Sex: possibility of ex being pregnant but no sex on the page. Attempted seduction
Language: brief, mild
Violence: screaming tantrum while throwing things at the object of the anger.
Moore’s sweet romances have the perfect blend of likeable characters, swoony romance, and a touch of trouble to keep things interesting.
After reading my last book I was wanting something more on the sunny side. Where I Belong by Heather B. Moore is the second book in the Pine Valley series and was exactly what I needed: a quick read with a happy ending.
After reading the first Pine Valley book, Worth the Risk, and not being too thrilled with it, I wasn’t sure what to expect with Where I Belong. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised.
Written like a modern-day Cinderella Where I Belong is the story of Jane Morris, a sweet and humble woman, and Cameron Vance, a handsome and wealthy man, who is very engaged, and way out of Jane’s league. Cameron’s fiancé is Crystal, a girl that he’s met only a few months before, and who you can tell right away cares more about Cameron’s money than Cameron himself. It doesn’t take long for Cameron to realize this fact himself and he quickly ends the engagement which unleashes Crystal’s wrath. Jane runs her own housekeeping business and was hired to clean Cameron’s condo. After their breakup, Jane literally picks up the pieces and is there to comfort Cameron.
Needing a date for an upcoming gala, Cameron’s mother suggests he take Jane. It’s a match that is made strictly out of convenience but Mrs. Vance makes sure Jane gets the star treatment. She picks out a gown that fits her perfectly and has her assistant help get her hair and makeup all ready. Jane feels like she is in a dream, being transformed into a beautiful princess. What girl wouldn’t love that? The night is absolutely enchanting, both Cameron and Jane immersing themselves into the night, and enjoying each other’s company. Even though rumors swirl about Cameron’s incredibly recent breakup with Crystal, everyone cannot help but notice the electricity between Cameron and Jane.
As Cameron and Jane fall for each other the reader falls in love with the characters which makes the story that much sweeter. The innocent love that blossoms between them was quite enjoyable but what I really appreciated was how the author focused on their friendship before their love. The attraction is felt immediately but they crave to know each other before they let their feelings truly show. That paired with the antics of the crazy ex-fiance makes this story more grounded compared to a true fairy tale, though it does have that fairy tale feel.
Where I Belong definitely redeemed the Pine Valley series for me and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
This is definitely a sweet Cinderella story! It was a pleasure to read and was a nice escape for a few hours! I loved the rapport between Jane and Cameron, they just complemented each other so well, and the conflict in the story didn’t come from their relationship or character flaws, but rather from outside sources. Cameron was never judgemental about Jane’s business, but saw her for the person she is, applauded her success, and encouraged her and supported her unfulfilled dreams. Jane provided emotional support to Cameron as well in the aftermath of his bad breakup with crazytown. I liked the inclusion of each of their parents in the story, how those relationships affected Jane and Cameron, and how the interactions showcased their more admirable qualities. This is a great contemporary romance that made me smile 🙂 Even though it’s the second in the series it’s written as a stand alone book and can be read out of order, no problem.
