Opening the Cozy Corgi in Estes Park is a dream come true: small-town charm, fresh-baked bread, hours by the fire reading mysteries, and… murder. For Winifred Page and her devoted corgi, Watson, the puzzle pieces of life are falling into place as they settle into their home in the Colorado mountains. Surrounded by family and friends, Fred begins to relax into the charm and beauty of being the … the owner of a bookshop and bakery.
The buzz of possible romance—though Fred wasn’t looking for a relationship—has quieted as one of her suitors is no longer a viable option while the other has moved into the friend zone. But all thoughts of romance, wanted or not, fly out the window when Fred finds a dead body in the Cozy Corgi bakery… again.
Things get stickier when Fred’s main suspect turns out to be a family member of one of the local police officers—the one who already despises Fred and her little dog. Determined not to let past grievances cloud her judgment, Fred tips her detective hat and pokes deeper into the murder investigation. But in a mystery that becomes smoke and mirrors, nothing is as it seems.
The revelations Fred unveils threaten not only her picture-perfect world but her very life….

Glad there are more
Really enjoying this series. Each book is really good. Love the characters. The bookshop and bakery are where I want to spend my time.
I really like this series. Watson, the dog, is a big part of the stories.
A wild cast of characters, a cute fur ball…and secrets are exposed. Savage Sourdough is a bit different than the other light hearted mystery stories in the Cozy Corgi series. It will take a lot more than Fred and Watson to solve this mystery.
Fred and Watson have settled into the small town of Estes Park. Not every loves them, but that’s okay. That’s just life.
She has her beloved book store and above it is her best human friend, Katie, and her bakery. They are a perfect fit.
I knew there was a secret surrounding Katie, but like Fred, I let it go figuring when the time was right, she would tell. NOW… Death and danger surround her and she realizes the time is right.
Fred’s family is quite the collection of quirky characters. There are too many to describe individually, but when they circle the wagons around Katie, it makes her realize how much she is loved and accepted.
Romance…there is always something in the air, we are just not sure what….
Mildred Abbot has kept us all guessing at who could be behind the mystery. Of course, we have plenty of chuckles and sweet moments while investigating. After all, it is a cozy mystery. The more time I spend with her wacky family and her sweet furball, the more I love them. Even as I type these words, I have a smile on my face.
It doesn’t matter the order read, they all stand alone, but why wouldn’t you want to start at the beginning?

Savage Sourdough by Mildred Abbott, has lots of surprising twists and turns.
Who would want to kill Sammy, and why?
The Mystery
In this installment, we learn many things. I don’t want to spoil it, so I will throw out a few highlights and some questions that I was left with
• Katie’s past totally blew me away.
• Sammy acted high and mighty there towards the end.
• Wow, if Officer Green know about her brother, things might be different.
• Leo is back in, playing Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. He is hanging out with Katie and Fred a lot.
• Fred is jealous of Katie and Leo’s friendship, but she still likes Branson.
• Where the heck is Branson going all the time that he isn’t around or available by phone?
• Can we get a Habanero’s in Kalispell?
• Fred has a great family, even if they like tie-die.
• I wonder if Fred will get a new Mini Cooper.
Five Stars
I love this story, I was so caught off guard by Katie, but I got the culprit after the accident. You will have to read the book to figure out what I am talking about. So, five stars for Savage Sourdough. So, far my favorite.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Great Escapes Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Now that The Cozy Corgi is up and running and a huge success, Fred is looking forward to curling up in her favorite nook with a good mystery. That all flies out the window when another dead body is discovered in her kitchen in the bakery upstairs. Time for Fred and Watson to get back to what they love, sniffing out a killer.
I very much enjoyed the first three books and couldn’t wait to dig into this one. I was pleasantly surprised to find not only another complicated mystery to figure out, but a bit darker one. And so many new details about the characters of Estes Park. I barely came up for air as I learned so many wicked little secrets.
I always wondered about Watson. Fred hinted about his origins in the first books but now I know how these two found each other. Or I should say how Watson found Fred. Fascinating stuff.
Still not sure what’s up with Sergeant Branson and getting more and more curious. Where does he go when he’s not working? I’m sure Fred will eventually sort that out. And I wonder if their brush with romance is really over.
There’s also some fun happenings with Officer Susan Green. Her and Fred loathe each other, but more is revealed about Susan and the two gals might be warming to each other. I do say might be.
It’s more madcap fun with these colorful characters and a mystery that leads you down many mistaken paths. I’m still loving this series and now deep into the next book, Scornful Scones
I am not a fan of secrets. I can’t keep them and I hate when people have them, it just seems so dishonest.there were parts i liked but to be honest the secrets pulled me more to the dislike side.
Wonderful writing. All the characters are interesting. Great series.
Love this wonderful cozy mystery series! Great introduction and interactions between characters. Beautiful descriptions of scenery and characters. I definitely will read all of Mildred Abbott’s other books. Fabulous writer; don’t miss any of these books!
Just love this series! There’s just something about Fred, Katie, Leo, Branson and the rest of the gang. I’m addicted…seriously! I was all over the place with Katie and her past. She kind of drove me crazy with her refusal of divulging her past and her obstinate pushing people away. There’s a difference between being independent and just being stupid with your safety. Poor Fred was really stuck between a rock a a hard place. Then you have Fred’s romances or lack of. Leo throws all sorts of mixed signals around. Friends? Potential lovers? Lovers of best friends? And Branson…he wants Fred…doesn’t want Fred…Fred needs to just date Kate and we can be done with it all! But this series is fun and keeps me guessing. The mysteries and suspense will always keep me jumping back in for more. And Watson. Grumpy old Watson.
I love all her books!!
