As the gods battle in the heavens, darkness descends on earth. The Keepers of Nine guide the primordial Kurintor warriors protecting the mortal world from the demons of Ashemohn. But after a god’s corruption empowered their demon goddess, Sokka, her manipulations have brought the Kurintor to the brink of extinction. Can the Keepers of Nine awaken the Kurintor descendants in time to defend the Fifth … Kurintor descendants in time to defend the Fifth Kingdom, or will the wraiths Sokka has sent forth destroy them?
It isn’t prophecy, destiny, or a birthright, that will decide the fate of the mortal world.
It is choice.
“An attention to atmosphere and psychological insights is just one of the strengths that lend a touch of the fantastic to even ordinary scenes and descriptions.”
D. Donovan – Midwest Book Review
“I am a huge sci-fi and fantasy fan. Some days I believe I’ve simply read too much in these genres, so it’s just too difficult to find a new writer, book, or series that can really excite or surprise me. Then, on other days, I read a book like Kurintor Nyusi by Aaron-Michael Hall. Suddenly, I’m excited by a new writer and I’m seeing new things in one of my favorite genres.”

Kurintor Nyusi is one of the most exciting and refreshing books I’ve read in a long time. The plot was not the usual fantasy fare, the world not like the usual worlds you find in the genre, and the characters…well, it was the characters that made this tale a pure pleasure to read. The author has created something very unique, and this is sure to be an award-winning story.
Through the eyes of these believable and well-portrayed characters, the reader is treated to a wonderfully enthralling experience, seeing the world through their eyes and coming to care for each and every one of them. We feel their emotions, share in their pains and joys. Even the antagonists. Nurisha, Xavion, Qaradan, Zuri, Alyelu and so many more. Yet, while there are plenty of characters, I did not feel overwhelmed at any time while reading this book.
This is fantasy as it was meant to be, not focused on creatures and landscapes, or even on the events, but on the people who live them, and we get to experience it all right along with them. I cannot say enough about how well-written this story is. This is an author all fantasy fans should keep their eyes on, and I highly recommend reading Kurintor Nyusi. I am anxiously awaiting the next book, and if this book is any indicator, the next will be magnificent! It deserves more than a mere 5 stars.
Kurintor Nyusi was in my opinion was a surprising and very refreshing read. It was not like your usual fantasy read, in fact i think it is a very unique story and well done to the author I was previously unaware of. There are many interesting characters for the reader to get to know and feel engaged with, primarily the powerful and compelling Sokka. After reading this was a Publisher’s Weekly semi-finalist it was no surprise how well-written it was, and the fast pace kept me enthralled from start to finish. This is a perfect addition for any fantasy lover’s bookshelf. I highly recommend it.
Aaron-Michael Moon very clearly put some effort into this book. I’ve not heard of this author before I came across this book, but after doing some digging I’ve found she’s got a handful of stories available. I don’t usually dive into high/epic fantasy stories like I did when I was younger, but this author clearly has style and creativity that separates her from most fantasy authors that seem to think Lord of the Rings is a template. The book itself seems to be well-edited, but I will say some chapters are completely pushed by dialogue or action, and not really balanced between the two. Still, that didn’t detract or hurt the story at all, just made some chapters quick while others were a bit slower.
So this story really belongs to Nurisha, and that’s who we start with. She treks through her adventure to find answers (which use the birthmark as a catalyst to kick off the adventure) but really if the adventure is the road, the characters are the shiny vehicle we watch as it zooms by. Watching Nurisha, Xavion, and Aljosa grow in this really made this story stand out, and learning about the lore and history (and Nurisha’s connection to the Kurintors) gave me buy in. I thought it was also nice that a glossary was included, seeing as a lot of the names/places in this story were original. Though I don’t think it was necessary (the author did a good job during the story), it was a nice touch and consideration that most authors have on hand in their book notes, but don’t often include.
I’ve read this book in a matter of a few days over the Covid break out, and it was a great distraction from the world around me. I’d recommend this book as a great way to escape our world and dive into a very rich and creative universe Moon has mapped out for us. I’m pretty amped to get into another book of hers!
A really satisfying read – and the characters are fascinating, real people!
Aaron-Michael Hall is an award-winning and bestselling author of fantasy novels, and this offering is sure to be no exception. Kurintor Nyusi is brilliantly written, bringing to life a rich imaginary world with such vivid descriptions that the reader feels transported to an entirely different time and place. Though the development of the setting and the story is so full that it feels effortless, what really jumps out of this book are the characters, who are diverse, well-rounded, and captivating. The dialogue within the story flows flawlessly, sucking the reader in and leaving them desperate for more.
With this book, Hall delivers an epic fantasy, brimming with excitement and atmosphere. Any fan of fantasy and adventure will love this story, though it feels like a new and refreshing take on the genre. It is sure to be a hit with a wide-ranging audience of any age.
Georgia author Aaron-Michael Hall is also a voice actor, digital artist, photographer, event organizer, and designer, but her ability to spin fantasy novels places her in company with some of our finest epic fantasy writers.
For those who appreciate imaginative stories of possibilities, Aaron-Michael’s books will satisfy. For those who are, perhaps, intimidated with strange names and worlds and limits to credibility, this book is a fine portal to entering this genre.
One of the many aspects of the author’s fine guidance on this journey is her inclusion of excellent art – especially the drawings of the main characters Aljosa, Nurisha, and Xavion whose artistic presence enhances the credibility of the story that follows. That same degree of art is seen in her prose as the story opens – ‘A plume of dust wafted into the air when the blow struck, propelling her backward to the ground. Nurisha grunted, glaring up at the man. She nursed her throbbing wrist, uncertain if she could withstand another one of his powerful strikes. Get up! Get up! her thoughts urged, willing her body to submit to her mind. She focused on the dangerous man stalking toward her, his sword glinting in the dawning rays cresting over the treetops…’
Plunging into the action in medias res only suggests the powerful pacing of this fine fantasy. Though progressing through the story at the reader’s own pace is preferable, the complex plot is distilled in the author’s synopsis: ‘As the gods battle in the heavens, darkness descends on earth. The Keepers of Nine guide the primordial Kurintor protecting the mortal world. But after a god’s corruption empowers an ancient demon goddess, Sokka, her manipulations have brought the Kurintor to the brink of extinction. Now, as Sokka amasses her forces to ascend to the mortal world, can the Keepers of Nine awaken the Kurintor descendants in time to defend the Fifth Kingdom, or will Sokka finally destroy them? It isn’t prophecy, destiny, or a birthright, which will decide the fate of the mortal world. It is choice.’
Aaron-Michael Hall has mastered the ability to create characters who, while enacting a fantasy in a strange world, become real in their responses, emotions, and interactions. Painterly and well-scribed, this is a fine introduction to nouveau fantasy visitors, and a most satisfying experience for fantasy buffs. Recommended.
It was great to read a fantasy novel that has two strong female leads. Protagonist Nurisha has been trained in combat by her father, which comes in handy, when she discovers that she may just hold the key to saving the world from a demon goodness, the antagonist Sokka. Demon God Sokka is determined to lay waste to the mortal world, by defeating The Keepers of Nine and unleashing her army. As a descendent of the magical and powerful Kurinator people, does Nourish have what it takes to stand in Sokka’s way?
Kurinator Nyusi is a great fantasy novel, with a real page-turning plot that build until it’s epic conclusion. Your transported into a new world of ancient warriors, Gods, and magic, to join a young women on a journey to discover who she really is and to realise her full potential.
I really enjoyed it and will be looking to read more from Aaron-Michael Hall in the future.
