Kaylee was dreaming… she had to have been. One minute she was buying snacks at a local convenience store in preparations for her Netflix marathon, and the next? Some strange man had bitten her. Ever since then she could swear she was on the world’s worst acid trip. How much time had passed? A few hours? Days? Regardless, something was definitely wrong with her. To make matters worse, when she … when she awoke she was alone in an unrecognizable house with a complete stranger… Sexy stranger, but stranger none-the-less…
Maybe Gage wasn’t as fucked as he thought he was. After Archer had mated Joanna his world had fallen apart. How could Archer betray him like that? Gage’s brain had been running at a thousand miles an hour trying to figure out what to do next. Fuck being a third wheel, and there was no way in hell he’d be getting along with Cohen. Would he move back to Illinois and find work? That was probably the only sound option he had…
That is, until he stumbled upon the stray. Archer had mentioned there was a recently turned shifter running around Stonefall. She looked so confused and hungry, he couldn’t just leave the coyote in the alley to die… Though, he probably should have thought ahead to lay out a change of clothes for her. To his defense, he didn’t expect the woman to shift back into human form over night. Regardless, it happened. He didn’t even know her name and yet the beautiful naked mess of a woman caught his bear’s attention. Perhaps he wouldn’t be leaving Stonefall after all…
This is book 2 of The Outcast Bears series, however it can be read as a standalone!

Will they stay or will they all go away?
Gage appears to be a mischievous man without a care in the world at first glance, but he is really hiding a deep seated fear that everyone in his life will leave him. Kaylee is not much better with the loss of her dreams at the hands of a supposed friend and business partner. Through the journey to their HEA, these two discover things about themselves, each other and the people around them that gives them a sense of belonging. The author did a fabulous job of demonstrating that we can all overcome our pasts, even those who have been surrounded with abuse, by opening ourselves to the people and experiences around us. Either that or we can succumb like the bad guy in this book. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
Gage and Kaylee
Being the youngest of the outcast bears Gage feels the loss of family more than his brothers. He uses jokes and pranks to cover up his inner turmoil.
Kaylee was just on a break to get her head on straight when she happens to be in the wrong place and the wrong time and her life is changed forever.
Gage and Kaylee meet in a dark alley and neither will be the same again.
arc review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Kaylee was turned coyote at Paul’s Mart while she is there trying to price her life back together so when Gage finds her after her first change he knows she his mate. Awesome
Gage: The Outcast Bears Book 2 by Emilia Hartley is the second book in an ongoing series about three bear shifter brothers who return home after leaving. This book focuses on the story of Gage Vancourt the youngest of the three bear brothers. It is written showcasing the snarky and trouble making personality of Gage. This book will lightened my heart with its characters funny antics and humorous dialogue. Especially, the interactions between Gage and his recently discovered mate. This is a stand alone book with a sexy happy ever after ending. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a paranormal romance with a good dose of sexy humor.
First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.
This story was gr8. Kaylee was so funny when she found herself as a coyote. She was born human after all. Gage teased her a lot, but the attraction was so strong between them. I truly enjoyed reading about Gage & Kaylee. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up
Prankster, trouble-maker, irresponsible, hot-head. Gage is used to all these labels and plays them up, owns them. That doesn’t mean some of them don’t bother him, though. When he’s stuck back in his home town supporting the pack that ousted him and his brothers years ago he’s at loose ends and doesn’t know where he fits or what could possibly keep him here. But there’s someone that needs him and when he finds her none of that other stuff will matter as much as giving her a place to belong and the confidence to embrace it.
Gage has felt abandoned by everyone important to him. His friend gave him up to the police to save his own skin, his father and pack kicked him out because he couldn’t be a good little soldier, his oldest brother discarded him in favor of being alone, his other brother deserted him for a woman and a new pack; what’s left except his own bravado and his devil-may-care attitude? Until he finds a small coyote shifter lost and confused in an alley. Something about her calls to a deeper part of him and he’s not about to let her go until he figures it out.
Kaylee has lost everything that she built. Sure, she’s got family that loves her. And yes, her talent is still in there somewhere. But what good are either of those things if the feelings of betrayal and hurt have sent her to a tiny town far away from everyone and everything she’s ever known? Well, that mess has got nothing on the trouble that’s staring at her through vacant yet blood-lust filled eyes and a mouth of sharp teeth. Waking up to a world of crazy sets her on the path that could heal her hurt, give her a future worth keeping, and a new self to empower her forever.
I enjoyed the interplay between Gage and Kaylee. It also gave me greater insight into Gage’s individual antics growing up and why his brothers and their old clan viewed him the way they did. While I felt there was a bit of a lack of resolution with Kaylee’s career history as well as Gage’s more emotional history, there were enough mentions of both to give a relatively complete “big picture” feel that made their relationship feel solid going forward.
This was actually a great book. Depending on how book three turns out this could very well be my favorite of the series. There was plenty of humor, heart, affection, steam, and drama to make this a well-rounded story. Kaylee is fierce, independent, and understanding. Gage is funny, caring, a bit hot-headed, and considerate. They have the ability to balance one another and together give Cohen a purpose, a home. I’m really looking forward to his story and how they’ll all fit together.
